Next, a cleaving cycle is performed in which an end laser bar is cleaved off the laser cell. The laser bar is deposited in the cassette, while the laser cell is positioned for a subsequent operation. The cleaving cycle repeats until a plurality of laser bars are cleaved off the laser cell and loaded into the cassette. The cassette is then moved into a deposition chamber where a layer of material is deposited on at least one end surface of all of the laser bars in the cassette.

Abstract: A dispensing apparatus and method are disclosed for dispensing sheet material from at least one roll of the sheet material. Dispensing is transferred from a stub roll to a reserve roll automatically in response to sensing a predetermined quantity of the stub roll. An isolating element is provided to lift the reserve roll out of contact with dispensing rollers during dispensing of sheet material from the stub roll, and a nipping element is provided to nip sheet material of the reserve roll when dispensing is transferred from the stub roll to the reserve roll. A cam controls movement of both the isolating element and the nipping element. Structure is also provided for sensing the diameter of the reserve roll of sheet material and providing an indication when the reserve roll is a predetermined diameter. The dispenser is quiet and capacity efficient.

The dispenser has first and second side members, and a cutter member. Each of the side members has a first major side portion which overlies a roll of adhesive tape within the tape dispenser. The cutter member is mounted between second minor side portions of the side members. A cylindrical axle is formed centrally on the inside surface of the first major side portion of at least one of the side members. There is at least one brake spoke upstanding from the inside surface of that side member, radially extending and spaced away from the cylindrical axle. The hub unit comprises a hub for holding a roll of tape, and two flanges, one on each of the opposite ends of the hub. One of the flanges optionally has a cutting edge along a portion of its outer periphery for severing tape pulled over the cutting edge. A plurality of tabs are provided generally adjacent the periphery of at least one of the flanges. The tabs tend to prevent accidental unwinding of tape from the tape dispenser unit. • Patent number: 6279806
Abstract: A dispenser is disclosed for retaining and dispensing plastic bags which are wound on a core. The dispenser is made of heavy metal wire configured to provide curved tracks in which a core can ride. The dispenser includes a separating tongue which enables a customer to dispense the bags one by one by pulling on the free end of the outermost bag. In order to prevent freewheeling, a braking surface is provided which engages the roll and retards rotation. A supplemental braking force is provided by spring elements mounted within the tracks which apply a frictional force to the ends of core. The spring elements are oriented such that the force applied to the core by the springs as the roll rotates when the bags are dispensed, causes the roll to tend to move downwardly into engagement with the braking surface. The spring elements are attached to the dispenser at a point below the braking surface. As a result, the braking force applied by the springs increases as the size of the roll decreases.

  • Patent number: 6267322
Abstract: This invention relates to a device which offers a person the convenience of tearing off with one hand any length of a flexible sheet material, typically toilet paper or kitchen towel, from a roll at a line of weakness (perforation) in the sheet. The device consists of two main components: a stable “cradle” and a movable “pallet”. The cradle is made up of a back plate whereby it is fastened to a solid surface, two side plates between which the roll is held, possibly a bottom plate on which (with the most practical embodiment of the invention) the roll rests, and a “lower jaw bar”. The pallet is rotatably attached to the side plates of the cradle. The active parts of the pallet are two cross bars: the “upper jaw bar” and the “press bar”.

  • Patent number: 6230953
Abstract: A plastic bag dispenser holds a continuous roll of bags, connected by perforated separation lines. The dispenser is provided with a tongue, which the bags are dispensed over, that engages the separation line between the bag at the end of the roll and the next bag. This begins the separation of the separation line, as well as holds the next bag behind the tongue. A finger is provided on the upstream side of the tongue, with a gap between the finger and tongue. As a bag is separated, a portion of the front edge of the next bag is held in the gap, holding the bag in position for the next user. The roll of bags rests in curved grooves in the dispenser that cause the roll to abut and frictionally engage an interior surface of the dispenser, preventing free-wheeling of the roll. The curvature of the grooves causes the component of force which creates the frictional engagement to increase as the size of the roll decreases.

  • Patent number: 5490722
Abstract: A manually powered hygienic dental floss dispenser enclosed in a housing. A user pulls a lever connected to a first drive belt engaging a free wheel and an inner ratchet wheel, causing the wheels to rotate clockwise. When the user releases the lever, a spring pushes the lever back toward its original position, causing the inner ratchet wheel to engage an outer ratchet wheel engaged with a second drive belt and a daisy wheel. Counterclockwise rotations of the wheels cause the daisy wheel to engage and advance a string of dental floss at pairs of opposing radial extensions of the daisy wheel. When the lever reaches its original position it activates a cutting mechanism that severs the string of dental floss at a measured length. The measured length of dental floss passes from the interior to the exterior of the housing through a feed tube.
