Abstract: Linerless labels are manually dispensed by mounting a roll of the labels for take-off from a stationary shaft. A polygon-cross-section foam core is provided between the shaft and the label roll to provide a brake drag effect to prevent excess label unwind. The non-adhesive face of the labels passes from the roll around a freely rotating guide roller with a non-stick surface which ensures consistent wrap of the labels and no scuffing of the non-adhesive face as the labels are dispensed. The labels pass from the guide roller to a tear surface having a first smooth, coarse, ribbed or grooved pattern metal portion which has low adhesion to the adhesive of the labels, but will stick to the labels sufficiently to provide an anchoring force to a label greater than the force necessary to tear along a perforation of the label, and a second non-stick surface portion.

Abstract: A convenient, contamination-free dental floss dispenser assembly having a housing and at least one roll of dental floss mounted for rotation therein. The housing having a dental floss dispensing orifice and cut-off means for cutting off pieces of the dental floss. The floss being free from engagement with the housing and spaced away by at least one-half inch from the housing when the floss extends from the orifice to the cut-off means. Accordingly, the floss free of retaining means, may be gripped by the fingers without touching or contaminating any other part of the housing. The dispenser may also incorporate a means for securely holding the assembly against movement without engagement of the housing by either hand during the dispensing and cutting off of the floss.

Abstract: A floss dispenser according to one embodiment has a base with a spool housing provided on one end thereof and a cutting member provided on the other end. The spool housing holds a spool of dental floss and dispenses an exposed portion of floss through an output port above the base. The cutting member has a friction element (which includes a blade for cutting the floss) positioned on an upper end thereof across from the output port. The friction element holds a distal end of the exposed portion of floss a spaced distance from the output port so that the exposed portion of floss extends above the base and through a gap region between the output port and the cutting member. The gap region is sized such that a user can grasp the exposed portion of floss without contacting any part of the floss dispenser. In this manner, the user avoids contaminating the floss dispenser.

The cutting element has a portion thereof formed and adapted to sever dental floss when it is pulled thereacross. The clamping element is adjacent the cutting element and cooperates with it to accessibly hold the dental floss supply cut end after severing.

A slot between the lid and front wall of the receptacle allow the web to be dispensed, and an arm suspended from the inside of the receptacle holds the free end of the web against the front of the receptacle and adjacent the recess, in a position that allows the user to easily grab the free end of the web.

Abstract: A dental floss holder is in the form of a box with a drawer in it. The bottom of the drawer includes a hub which is spring biased to push a bobbin mounted thereon toward an opposite side of the box. The bias is such that the bobbin drags with a predetermined force on an opposite side of the box to maintain tension in the floss. A result is that the bobbin does not unwind while in the holder, thereby precluding a snarled floss line. Also, the tension gives a smooth "pull" which adds a "feel" of quality to the floss. The "feel" does not change as the diameter of the bobbin changes with either an exhaustion of floss or changes in the diameter of a full bobbin. The hub is mounted on a dome having sides with a shape which guides and directs any floss falling off the bobbin back onto it.

The web braking (14, 15, 17) prevents paper from being dispensed uncontrollably from the holder as a result of inertia forces or some other circumstance. The holder is comprised preferably of two major parts, namely a back plate (1) and a causing (2), which houses the roll (4) and roll support means (8, 9). When the roll (4) is placed horizontally in the casing the roll is supported on two shafts (8). When the roll extends vertically in the casing, it is supported by a shelf (9). The shelf has formed therein an aperture (10) through which the paper web passes.

An arcuate frame has a cylindrical brake bar mounted on one side thereof and fasteners rotatably fastening the arcuate frame to the base plate below the center axis and parallel to the center axis of a roll of paper towels held in the paper towel holder. The arcuate frame brake extends parallel to the axis of the roll of paper towels and is supported on the roll of towels along the top of the roll so that the arcuate frame extends at least 90.degree. around a roll of paper towels to prevent the towels from being blown by air movement and to provide a brake for tearing the paper towels.

Abstract: The invention is an improved dispenser for a transfer adhesive. The adhesive is called a "transfer" adhesive because it is separated from its backing material and transferred onto a working surface, without the backing. The adhesive and backing are initially formed on a tape which is threaded from a supply reel, and around a tape roller, the spent backing being wound on a take-up reel. The adhesive is applied by rolling the tape roller along the working surface. In the present invention, the tape roller is attached to a lever, which can assume two positions. In the first position, the lever prevents the supply reel from rotating. In the second position, the lever allows the supply reel to rotate. The lever is spring-biased so that it is normally in the first position. When the tape roller is pressed against the working surface, so as to apply the adhesive, the lever shifts to the second position.

Abstract: A dispenser for a roll of flexible material has been described. A housing supports the roll for rotation about an axis, and a braking and severing device is mounted to the housing. The braking and severing device provides a lever and a contacting element. The lever includes a cutting edge so that as the flexible material is pulled against the cutting edge, the lever causes rotation of the contacting element against the roll to thereby prevent further rotation of the roll. In the preferred embodiment, the braking and severing device comprises two thin, flat elements secured together with a spacer to provide a gap for passage of the flexible material.

Abstract: A printer includes a printhead, a driven platen to advance the paper, which simultaneously provides counter-pressure to the printhead, and a paper-cutting bar which includes a cutting edge on which the paper can be cut. A paper compartment holds a paper supply, through which the platen is accessible for paper insertion. A cover plate or lid covers the paper compartment. In order to assure safe operation, the cutting edge of the paper-cutting bar is mounted outside of the most constricted space between the platen axle and the paper-cutting bar. The end of the paper-cutting bar includes the cutting edge thus covering the platen so that the end of the cover plate penetrates beneath or overlaps the specified end of the paper-cutting bar in the closed position.

Abstract: This invention relates to dispensers comprising one or various interconnected holders, the or each holder being formed by two box-shaped components with an outlet opening in which a rotary drum is housed. A flexible strip or elements of any suitable nature is wound around the drum, to be used together with elements of other strips for marking of wires, cables, electrical equipment and systems. These strips of elements protrude from the hole in each holder and can be cut to any length and removed progressively by turning the drum. A multiple holder dispenser provides for tidy and methodical arrangement of the marking elements and for easy and safe utilization.

The housing has an extension on the front side thereof through which the tape is dispensed. A pressure member is mounted on the housing extension over the point at which the tape is discharged from the housing extension, for use in pressing the tape on a flat surface as it is discharged from the dispenser. The dispenser includes means for stripping the paper liner from the foil as the foil is fed from the roll in the dispenser.

Abstract: A spool of thread, such as dental floss, is housed in a two-part shell or holder, preferably made of plastic. The floor on the bottom one of the shell parts includes a platform to provide a bearing surface for enabling rotation of the spool with a minimum of friction. The top of the upper shell part includes at least one finger which depends far enough to drag, with predetermined friction, against the top of the spool. This friction is sufficient to prevent a random unwinding of the spool and yet small enough to preclude any substantial impedance to the withdrawal of a desired amount of thread from the spool.

Abstract: A dispensing device for a paper web adapted to be carried in a pocket, purse or the like for holding a supply of paper and enabling a desired quantity of such paper to be readily dispensed. The paper may be that type used for rolling your own cigarette, cleaning eyeglass lenses, making notes and the like which are normally difficult to carry without becoming folded, crumpled or otherwise unusable. The dispenser includes a tubular housing receiving a roll of paper including a paper web and core rotatably mounted on a tubular spindle with one end of the paper web extending out through a discharge slot. A resilient band extends through the tubular spindle and biases the roll of paper against the wall of the tubular housing to resist free rotation thereof for controlling the discharge of paper through the discharge slot.
