Patent number: 9908735Abstract: A tape dispenser includes a plastic injection molded frame with a resiliently flexible finger that helps prevent the free end of a roll of tape from accidentally retracting, falling back, and frustratingly sticking to the coiled portion of the tape. To avoid this problem, a distal end of the finger presses against the inner diameter of a cardboard or plastic spool about which the tape is wrapped. Friction between the finger's distal end and the spool's inner diameter inhibits reverse rotation of the spool. To avoid breaking the finger while forcefully loading the roll of tape into the dispenser during assembly, a lateral backstop surface on the dispenser prevents the spool from bending the finger too far in a laterally outward direction. To avoid breaking the finger during subsequent rough use, another backstop surface prevents the spool from bending the finger too far in a radially downward direction.Type: GrantFiled: February 25, 2016Date of Patent: March 6, 2018Inventors: Larry E. One or both of the members may be provided with curved bearing surfaces substantially matching the roll surface curvature to facilitate maximum severed tape strip utilization from the roll by use of the assembly. Clearance recesses in the legs facilitate digital manipulation and improve the resiliency of the leg. Channels on the legs of one of the members and complementary base bars on the other of the members carry the interdigitating retaining ribs and also maintain the members against displacement relative to one another circumferentially of the roll.Type: GrantFiled: June 25, 1981Date of Patent: September 20, 1983Inventor: Bruce A. Patent number: 4358328Abstract: A method for anchoring a metal tape-cutting blade to a thermoplastic resin frame of a tape dispenser. The plate is pierced to produce a plurality of plate portions projecting around an opening. The projections are positioned against the frame. Ultrasonics are used to locally heat the frame while the projections are pressed into it, whereupon a portion of the thermoplastic frame material flows into the opening between the projections and upon solidification holds the blade in place.Type: GrantFiled: January 16, 1981Date of Patent: November 9, 1982Assignee: Minnesota Mining and Manufacturing CompanyInventor: Walter C. Patent number: 4225071Abstract: A device for severing selected lengths of so-called masking tape from a supply roll, which device is of the type that, for convenience in use, is attached directly to the roll, and in connection with which there has been obviated any springs or the like that adversely affects the tracking of the device about the roll. Instead, the cutting implement of the within device is pivotally traversable and thus effectively takes up the diminishment in the height of the type by partaking of this degree of movement.Type: GrantFiled: December 11, 1978Date of Patent: September 30, 1980Inventor: Don Laviano

Patent number: 4194658Abstract: A paper towel dispenser includes a T-shaped base with the center leg defining a handle permitting the dispenser to be hand held for portability. The base further includes structure for demountably attaching the dispenser to a wall or other object. A pair of support arms extend from the opposite ends of the cross bar of the base to support a roll of towels therebetween and a retainer and cutter bar extends between the support arms at the end remote from the base for preventing the roll of towels from inadvertently unwinding and for providing a cutter against which the towels can be individually torn from the roll.Type: GrantFiled: July 20, 1978Date of Patent: March 25, 1980Inventor: Arlow H. Patent number: 3970230Abstract: A tape tearing device for removably applying to a roll of pressure sensitive tape comprises a generally U-shaped cutter including a blade affixed to the web of the cutter, the web terminating endwardly in a pair of depending, integral legs. The legs terminate downwardly in inwardly projecting shoulders suitable to loosely grip the core of a roll of tape. The legs are spaced apart a distance slightly greater than the width of the roll of tape and the shoulders extend inwardly a predetermined distance to define a clear space therebetween that is less than the width of the tape whereby the tape tearing device may be easily applied to a roll of tape by slightly spreading the legs and then the device is retained in association therewith by the natural spring bias of the legs.Type: GrantFiled: February 5, 1975Date of Patent: July 20, 1976Inventor: Alexander Horn

Patent number: 3968915Abstract: A tape dispenser for use with a conventional tape roll, the tape dispenser has a finger grip piece insertable within the core of tape roll and a cover piece pivotally engageable with the holding piece for adjustably encompassing part of the periphery of the tape roll, the cover piece is contoured to be gripped with the holding piece to position the cover piece against the periphery of the tape roll for dispensing tape pulled from the roll at a controlled tension, and, the cover piece includes a projecting dispensing end with a tape guide and cutting edge for guiding and severing tape pulled from the tape roll.Type: GrantFiled: April 28, 1975Date of Patent: July 13, 1976Inventor: Ernst E.
