A release device that temporarily releases a sheet material having been interposed by the both rolls just before the sheet material is subjected to press working by the press apparatus includes a sub-roll guide that can move up and down together with the sub-roll, a rectilinear cam, and cam followers for engagement with a cam surface of the rectilinear cam, and the release device moves the rectilinear cam axially of the sub-roll in synchronism with the operation of the press apparatus to thereby displace the sub-roll up and down through the cam followers and the sub-roll guide.

A mechanism is also provided for incrementally moving the sacrificial blade towards the cutting blade to ensure that the zero clearance is maintained between the cutting blade and the sacrificial plate, even when the sacrificial plate begins to wear down due to usage.

    Abstract: A yarn feeding means comprising a yarn detaching guide positioned in the vicinity of a positively rotating roller for feeding a yarn continuously fed from a supply source to a yarn winder and capable of selectively occupying either of two positions, one of which is a retractive position where the detaching guide is non-operative to the yarn path and the other is a projective position where the detaching guide is engageable with the yarn path to detach the yarn from the positively rotating roller. The yarn detaching guide holds the yarn during the threading operation away from the feed roller whereby the yarn can be withdrawn even by a standard capacity suction gun irrespective of a high surface speed of the feed roller. A winder comprising the yarn detaching guide is also provided.

    Abstract: An improvement in a strip feeder for feeding a continuous strip of sheet material to a punch press, for example. The feeder includes a drive roller segment and an idler roller. The drive roller segment is driven in oscillating fashion by the punch press through a cam oscillator drive. A lever assembly connects the cam drive with the drive roller segment shaft. The lever assembly includes a lever which pivots about a point adjustable along the length of the lever. This adjustment, which can be made while the feeder is in operation, is effective to vary the oscillating travel of the feed roller segment and, accordingly, the length of strip which is fed.

    Abstract: There is disclosed web feeding apparatus and method for feeding a web from a web roll to a utilization device. The paying out of the web from the web roll into a U-shaped buffer loop is assisted by a pair of cooperating feed rolls which engage the web along the buffer loop. When the loop decreases to a certain extent, a sensing member causes the feed rolls to rotate to pay additional web material out of the web roll until the loop has increased to a certain extent. The web material extends from the buffer loop over the web roll and is guided to the utilization device, for example, a printer. The feed rolls can be caused to rotate when a manually engageable lever is moved in one direction. Alternatively the feed rolls can be separated and caused to rotate when the member is moved in the opposite direction. The apparatus also includes a reel assembly having a reel for handling web rolls having a variety of different widths.

Oscillating rotational movement of the output shaft is transmitted to the driven feed roll to advance the driven feed roll in contact with the strip material through a preselected degree of rotation corresponding to a preselected feed length of the strip material to the press. The end of the drive link adjacent to the output shaft is movable relative to the output shaft.

    Abstract: The input shaft of a punch press is rotated at a continuous preselected speed and is drivingly connected by a cam drive mechanism to an output shaft to generate oscillating rotational movement of the output shaft. Upper and lower feed rolls are rotatably supported in a frame in overlying relation to engage stock material extending between the upper and lower rolls. A combination linkage and gear cluster transmits the oscillating rotation movement of the output shaft to one of the feed rolls. The second feed roll is pivotally supported in the frame for movement toward and away from the first feed roll. A coupling drivingly connects the gear cluster to the second feed roll to oscillate the second feed roll through an angle of rotation corresponding to the angle of rotation of the first feed roll and thereby drive both of the feed rolls to intermittently feed a preselected length of the stock material to the press.

The rotation-transmission roll has a peripheral surface which makes rolling contact with the main roll for transmitting rotation, and is movable toward and away from the main roll to adjust contact pressure between the main roll and the rotation-transmission roll upon rotation of the eccentric flange.

    Abstract: In the intermittent forward feeding of a material web provided with transverse crease lines and simultaneous punching of holes into the material web in a definite relation to the crease line pattern, it is important to ensure that any faults in the length of the forward feed, do not accumulate during working over longer periods. Such faults, which occur due to unavoidable inaccuracies would lead successively to ever increasing faultiness in the placing of the holes. A method and an arrangement adapted to avoid the accumulation of such faults are provided.In the method the material web during each forward feeding is advanced a distance which exceeds the correct distance between two transverse lines by the fault margin. Subsequently, before the next forward feeding, the web is restored to a correct position, not affected by any faults in the distance between the crease lines.

    Abstract: The invention relates to a hydraulically actuated feed roll lift mechanism for feeds utilized to feed strip stock into a machine, such as a mechanical press. Regulated hydraulic pressure acting against a piston that is connected to one of the feed rolls through a yoke forces the feed roll against the stock to grip the stock and cause an increment thereof to be fed into the press when the rolls are rotated. A roll opening cam, which is connected to the press crankshaft, advances a small piston to displace oil against the other side of the piston while the stock is at rest to thereby separate the rolls during the time that the dies are in contact with the stock in the press. The time at which roll separation is initiated is controlled by adjusting the angular position of the cam on its shaft, as by releasing a frictional lock mechanism, rotating the cam to the desired position, and then again locking it in place.

    Abstract: This invention relates to an electric impact tool characterized by a pair of electric motor-driven counterrotating flywheels, at least one of which is movable relative to the other from a retracted inoperative position into an extended operative one closely adjacent the other flywheel whereby a ram is squeezed therebetween and impelled forward at high speed against a workpiece. The nosepiece of the tool frame is retractable although normally extended due to the spring bias urging it and the movable flywheel to which it is mechanically linked into disengaged position. These elements cooperate with one another and with a manually-actuated trigger such that the latter must be depressed and the nosepiece retracted in order to engage the high energy friction clutch defined by the flywheels so as to operate the ram. A flywheel speed control is provided for matching the ram impact to the workload.

The unit contains a direct drive from the punch press crankshaft to feed rolls which are located adjacent to the table of the press. A non-slip, positive, drive is provided from the crankshaft of the punch press to an index drive which receives continuous, uniform rotary motion and converts it into non-continuous, incremental movement of the index drive output shaft. A positive, non-slip drive is provided between the index drive output shaft and the power driven feed roll. The feed roll unit also contains a compressed air-operated cylinder arrangement to release the idler feed roll at a predetermined period during the punch press cycle so that the stock being fed to the press is free from the feed rolls during the pressing portion of the punch press operating cycle.
