  • Patent number: 8083122
Abstract: Drum for a washer and a dryer including a cylindrical metal body part, reduced parts at opposite end parts of the body part, each having a diameter smaller than a diameter of the body part, and bent parts each having a folded edge of the reduced part, thereby providing a drum that can prevent occurrence of vibration and noise.

  • Patent number: 6848609
Abstract: In a method of making finned tubes as components of air-cooled systems or condensers, a sheet metal strip of aluminum is first shaped into a waved finned structure with plural fins in parallel relationship and arched ends for connecting the fins, thereby defining crests on opposite ends of the finned structure. A fluxing agent of cesium-aluminum tetrafluoride is applied in lines onto the crests on at least one of the ends of the finned structure. The finned structure is then placed upon a broad side of a flat steel tube coated with a zinc/aluminum alloy. The finned structure and the flat tube are subsequently joined in a brazing furnace in the presence of an inert gas at a temperature between 370° C. and 470° C. to produce a unitary structure which is then allowed to cool down at room temperature.

  • Patent number: 6367332
Abstract: Triboelectric sensors which generate electrical signals in response to mechanical disturbances creating relative motion of conducting and dielectric components of the sensor are fabricated from thin metal foil which is plastic-coated on one side and which can be formed into elongated, cable-like sensors having a variety of other shapes and sizes. The foil encloses one or more wire-like inner electrical conductors which, may be sealed within the envelope formed by the outer foil by heat-sealing the plastic-coated foil. A technique similar to welding may be used in which electrodes are placed in contact with opposing faces of the metal foil and an electrical current is passed though the foil. Local heating of the foil and of the plastic coating near the point of contact of one or both electrodes can cause the plastic to melt and the opposing plastic faces to bond together.

  • Patent number: 6045025
Abstract: A pair of soldering irons are fixed to a sliding plate at a predetermined interval. The soldering irons are integrally moved so as to reciprocate in a rectangular direction relative to a conveyor belt. One of the soldering irons is conveyed to a working position of the conveyor belt and the other of them is separated from the conveyor belt. While one of the soldering irons solders a circuit board, the other is cleaned. The circuit board has a slit into which a metal plate is inserted and soldered. For the slit, a soldering land constituted of a main-land and a sub-land is provided. The main-land is formed along one of longer sides of the slit. The sub-land is elongated from the main-land along a shorter side of the slit. The soldering land is not formed all around the slit so that the slit is not closed by solder when the circuit board is dip-soldered.

  • Patent number: 4760232
Abstract: A method of cladding a steel roll, such as a felt roll with a non-corrosive shell, ensures that the shell is tightly fitted to the core and is free to expand and contract on the core to avoid distortion problems. The method comprises the steps of preparing two stainless steel shells each having a length equivalent to the circumference of the core plus a predetermined extra, wrapping the shells about the core, side by side, leaving a predetermined circumferential gap between the shells, heating and clamping the shells tightly around the core until the longitudinal joints each attain a predetermined longitudinal gap, welding the longitudinal gaps, and circumferential gap between the shells while the shells are hot, ensuring the sheets are welded together and not welded to the core.

  • Patent number: 4708897
Abstract: The invention concerns a composite product, also referred to as cored wire, comprising a tubular metal casing having a welt-type seam, containing a core of compacted powder or granular material, which can be easily rolled up and then unrolled, without the risk of the seam coming undone. The composite product according to the invention comprises, on the outside wall of the casing and straddling the seam region, hollow impressed portions which are produced by cold deformation of the metal. These portions are in the form of grooves which are elongate transversely with respect to the axis of the composite product. The composite product according to the invention is used, in particular, for treating metal baths.

  • Patent number: 4260095
Abstract: A clad product having predetermined closely-toleranced shape and dimensions. The product is made by first preforming a base material and a cladding of dissimilar material in dimensions substantially the same as the clad product, with at least the base or cladding being preformed with an additional dimensional profile. At least the cladding material is then heated to a solid-phase bonding temperature, achieved in one embodiment by laser-heating. The base material and cladding material are subsequently passed together through pressure rollers with application of a pressure for solid-phase bonding the cladding material against the base material to form the clad product. The bonding pressure of the rollers deforms the preformed additional dimensional profile to compensate for non-uniform material flow in the respective base or cladding material during solid-phase bonding for obtaining the predetermined closely-toleranced shape and dimensions of the clad product.

  • Patent number: RE28961
Abstract: Manufacturing of a soft metal sheath formed of aluminum or copper, for example, is improved by suitably selecting the apparatus composing the shaping means employed therein and arranging the capstan and the sinking die in a novel manner. The apparatus selected is made from a wear-resistant synthetic resin such as a molybdenum bisulfide-included nylon. The sheath is manufactured from a metal tape of aluminum or copper through the working stages of applying a cylindrical tube shaped from the tape onto a cable core, butt welding the seam, and then reducing the diameter of the metal tube to connect it to the core.
