    Abstract: A heating furnace tube, a method of using the same and a method of manufacturing the same which have been developed with a view to eliminating inconveniences occurring when a carbon-containing fluid is made to flow in the heating furnace tube. The heating furnace tube which comprises a rare earth oxide particle distributed iron alloy containing 17-26 wt. % of Cr and 2-6 wt. % of Al. The method of manufacturing this heating furnace tube which comprises the steps of forming or inserting an insert metal on or into at least one of a joint end portion of one heating furnace tube element and that of the other heating furnace tube element, bringing these two joint end portions into pressure contact with each other directly or via an intermediate member, and diffusion welding the two heating furnace tube elements to each other by heating the insert metal.

    Abstract: The invention relates to a hermetic optical fiber feedthrough or connector, and a method of hermetically sealing an optical fiber at low temperature. The method involves stripping a portion of the buffer layer of an optical fiber. The stripped portion of the fiber is inserted into a ferrule having a high coefficient of thermal expansion closely matching that of a low melt temperature solder. The ferrule is heated to melt the solder, the stripped portion of the fiber is then directly soldered into the ferrule. Upon cooling the solder and ferrule cool and shrink relatively uniformly thereby forming a compressive hermetic solder joint surrounding the stripped fiber. An epoxy may be inserted into an aperture formed in the ferrule. The epoxy forms a seal around the hermetic solder joint and bonds with the stripped fiber to improve the tolerance of the hermetic seal to mechanical deformation and increases the pull strength of the seal. Advantageously, the optical properties are not altered by the process.

    Abstract: A multi-tubular structure is fabricated without the use of a brazing flux by assembling a brazing assembly having no flux and having an inner tube, a bottom outer tube overlying the inner tube, and a top outer tube overlying the inner tube. The top outer tube and the bottom outer tube are coaxial along a tube axis but longitudinally spaced apart along the tube axis. A mass of a braze material overlies the inner tube and resides within the flared upper end of the bottom outer tube. The assembly is brazed in a vacuum by heating the braze material to a temperature above the braze-material melting point, and simultaneously moving the top outer tube and the bottom outer tube together along the tube axis so that their facing ends lie adjacent to each other.

    Abstract: A seat frame assembly of a motorcycle has upper and lower pipes made of an aluminum alloy and having a rectangular cross-sectional shape. The upper and lower pipes have front ends constructed as joints, and solid spacers made of an aluminum alloy and having a cross-sectional shape substantially identical to the rectangular cross-sectional shape of the pipes are fitted in the joints. Flat side walls of each of the joints are sandwiched between flat electrodes of a resistance welding machine, and pressed and heated so as to be crimped on the spacer while an electric current is flowing between the flat electrodes.

    Abstract: A connector for use with a circuit substrate having a plurality of elongated conductors. A solder ball is fused to the end of the conductors for connection of the connector to a circuit substrate. Method for attaching the solder ball to the end of the conductors using a solder paste with or without a preformed solder ball. The conductors are fitted into passages of an interface member. A tail end of each conductor terminates in a well in a surface of the interface member that facilitates the attachment of solder ball to the end of the conductors. The passages in the interface member hold the conductor tail ends in place while providing a clearance around the conductor to accommodate the effects of thermal expansion and contraction.

    Abstract: This invention is directed to a novel method of removably securing a sight glass member to a refrigeration vessel in hermetically sealed relation therewith. In accordance with the method concept, a ferrule or like tubular mounting means is fixedly attached to the vessel through an opening therein, and one end of the sight glass is located within the ferrule. Brazing metal is then positioned in contact with the sight glass member and ferrule, and the metal, member and ferrule are heated by electromagnetic induction to melt the brazing metal and form a hermetic bond between the ferrule and sight glass member. By this method, leakage associated with threaded connections, and damage to the sight glass and extreme difficulty of removing the sight glass member when resistance or arc welding methods are used, are herein substantially entirely eliminated.

    Abstract: A method of brazing of an outer carbon steel shell to an inner stainless steel shell, in which a stainless steel sheet material of the inner shell is rolled up with an overlap and arranged with a clearance inside the outer shell, braze material is placed in the clearance, walls of the rolled sheet material of the inner shell are forced to the inner surface of the outer shell, longitudinal edges of the sheet material of the inner shell are weld-joined to form the inner shell, air is evacuated from the clearance, and ends of the outer and inner shells are joined by circular vacuum-tight corner welds, one leg of which extends radially and has a length equal to at least one thickness of the inner shell, whereas the length of the other leg, which extends longitudinally, is equal to at least twice the thickness of the wall of the inner shell and said inner and outer shells are brazed in a furnace forming after cooling a bimetallic cylindrical article.

    Abstract: A method is described for plating the inner and outer circumferences of a cylindrical dielectric element used in an isolator, and for then assembling the dielectric element with other components to complete the isolator. The dielectric element is first sensitized and activated so that a subsequently applied plating will adhere thereto. The end faces of the dielectric element are then covered with a plating resist, and the element is immersed in a metal plating bath to plate the inner and outer circumferences of the dielectric element. Having been plated, the dielectric element and other components of the isolator are assembled within a hollow connector and joined thereto using a solder sheath.

The bimetallic tube is useful for heat exchange purposes when corrosive fluids are involved and has better heat transfer properties than an all-reactive metal tube.
