  • Patent number: 6712258
Abstract: A method for forming a thermoelement for a thermoelectric cooler is provided. In one embodiment a first substrate having a plurality of pointed tips separated by valleys wherein the substrate is covered by a metallic layer, portions of the metallic layer is covered by an insulator, and other portions of the metallic layer are exposed is formed. The other portions of the metallic layer that are exposed are covered with a thermoelectric material overcoat. A second substrate of thermoelectric material is then fused to the pointed tip side of the first substrate by, for example, heating the back of the first substrate to melt the thermoelectric material overcoat or by passing current through the pointed tips to induce Joule heating and thereby melt the thermoelectric material overcoat.

  • Publication number: 20030038167
Abstract: This invention provides a welding method and a welded joint for high strength, temperature resistant steels that produces the same strength as the base metal in the welded joint, thereby resolving the strength problems in the heat affected area by making a simple change to the welding method, and additionally, to extend this advantage to high strength ferrite heat resistant steels by providing a multi-pass buildup welding method for such high strength ferrite heat resistant steels. The multi-layered cap 15a fusion area extends past the heat affected area 13 that lies outside groove 11, and the surface area of the foregoing extension that is required to impart the same level of creep strength as is inherent in the base metal is based on the relationship between the groove width and the base metal thickness shown as hatched area in FIG. 1(B).

  • Patent number: 6253989
Abstract: An improved press fit joint is particularly useful for iron parts. An outer part receives an inner part which is press fit into a bore in the outer part. The outer part has a hole, and the inner part has a dimple which is aligned with the hole when the inner part is forced into the outer part. The dimple has a dimension which is greater than the dimension of the hole. A puddle weld is formed within the hole and in the dimple. The puddle weld thus provides a secondary retention holding the inner part within the outer part.

  • Patent number: 4773154
Abstract: This invention relates to an improved method of making an improved injection molding nozzle having an integral electrical heating element which is grounded adjacent the corrosion and wear resistant pointed tip. A main body is made of steel with a cylindrical central portion and a tapered portion adjacent a forward recessed end. The heating element is inserted through a heating element bore drilled diagonally through the tapered portion and wound in a spiral channel machined in the surface of the central portion. A high speed steel tapered tip portion is mounted on the forward end of the main body with the exposed forward end of the heating element extending into a central heating element bore therethrough. The surfaces of the assembly are sprayed with sticky acrylic lacquer and it is then dipped in a nickel powder bath. Beads of nickel brazing paste are applied to the joints. A high speed steel insert portion is dropped into the mouth of the bore, followed by a quantity of nickel brazing powder.

  • Patent number: 4339859
Abstract: A wire spoke, non-suspension type, automotive wheel is provided in which spokes are operably untensioned prior to vehicle loads being placed upon the wheel. An outer tubeless tire rim with a drop center is mounted to a wheel center. The wheel center includes a substantially thick and solid felly connected to a concentrically positioned hub. Wire spokes extend radially outward from the hub in a patterned circumferential array and have tenons or feet on inner ends thereof which are anchored within recesses at front and rear ends of the hub. Radially disposed outer ends of the spokes have plain terminations which are welded to form a plug anchor within circumferentially spaced bores in the felly to secure the spokes. The bores are preferably situated in inwardly extending dimples which are formed in the felly. The bores are partially frusto-conically shaped and are formed by a method using a circular punch and corresponding die.
