  • Patent number: 6135343
Abstract: Method for the fabrication of cones of sheet material where the blank includes two curved edges that are circular and have the radius R and r respectively and a common center C. The blank further has two straight lateral edges which are angled in relation to the circular edges. An angle .alpha. between the radius, through a corner and a first straight edge is as great as an angle .beta. between the radius through a second straight edge. A frustum of a cone is obtained from the blank after rolling the cone such that the lateral edges have been united to make a joint that runs helically around the cone.

  • Patent number: 5215245
Abstract: A method for roll embossing an enhancement pattern into a surface of a metal strip. The method is intended for use in manufacturing roll formed seam welded metal tubing having interior or exterior surface enhancements to improve the heat transfer characteristics of the tube. Metal strip produced by use of the method has a weld zone adjacent each edge of the strip that does not have the surface pattern embossed upon it but has been rolled to a thickness less than the initial thickness of the strip feedstock. The amount by which the rolled thickness of the strip in the weld zones is reduced from the initial thickness is such that the portions of the strip in the weld zones undergo the same elongation as the central portion of the strip which receives the roll embossed surface enhancement. In this way no tensile stresses are introduced into the weld zone and it has a uniform and predictable thickness that will ensure a good welded seam during later welding into finished tubing.

  • Patent number: 4991291
Abstract: A method is disclosed for easy and inexpensive fabrication of fold-up frames having diverse geometric configurations for flat packs (metal packages) for housing discrete and integrated circuit chips. The method includes a first step of cutting a piece of flat metallic stock to predetermined length and width consistent with the number of fold-up frames and the perimeter required for the specific fold-up frame configuration to be fabricated, respectively. The flat stock is then milled to form a plurality of grooves of predetermined angle lengthwise in at least one major surface thereof to define the number of sidewall members in the final configuration of the fold-up frame. The milled flat stock may then be sliced to form a plurality of individual milled frames each having the predetermined height required by the specific configuration fold-up frame. Apertures are formed in the milled frame by punching or piercing all sidewall members simultaneously in a single operation.

  • Patent number: 4603806
Abstract: First, a rectangular metal plate having thinner and thicker portions corresponding to a lighter-wall portion and heavier-wall portion of a pipe to be manufactured is prepared. Before bending the plate until both edges thereof meet to form a tubular piece, the plate width is adjusted by cutting off part of the thinner portion so that the desired peripheral lengths are attained in both lighter- and heavier-wall portions of the pipe. The width-adjusted plate is then bent until both edges are butted together to form a tubular piece. By butt-welding the adjoining edges, a metal pipe with longitudinally differentiated wall thickness is obtained.

  • Patent number: 4583675
Abstract: A method of production of a part formed with an opening wherein a metal strip material is subjected to rolling at its outer peripheral portion to have its thickness slightly reduced and shape the metal strip material into a ring-shaped blank, and at least one of inner and outer peripheral portions of the ring-shaped blank is drawn by a press to form at least one flange. The metal strip is supported in coil form on an uncoiler and payed out therefrom and subjected to a straightening before being subjected to rolling. When the metal strip material is rolled, its inner side is wrinkled. The ring-shaped blank is cut and a projection is formed at one end portion and superposed on the other end portion to be joined by electric spot welding to provide a completed ring-shaped blank. When the blank is drawn to form the flanges, by virtue of the wrinkles and thinned outer peripheral portion, the thickness of the part becomes substantially uniform.

Abstract: A resilient plastic web exhibiting a fiber-like appearance and tactile impression and method and apparatus for its manufacture. In a preferred embodiment, the web exhibits a three-dimensional microstructure comprising a regulated continuum of debossed areas of non-uniform cross-section along their length. In a particularly preferred embodiment, the debossed areas comprise capillary networks interconnecting the first and second surfaces of the web, said networks being of decreasing size in the direction of said second surface to promote fluid transport from the first surface of the web to the second surface and inhibit the flow of fluid in the reverse direction. Forming surfaces utilized to produce said webs are constructed by laminating a multiplicity of thin plates having patterns of apertures therein to form an integral structure exhibiting properties and characteristics unachievable by prior art machining and weaving techniques.

  • Patent number: 4465309
Abstract: A device is provided for connecting together the ends of pipes or tubing or for repairing a fault in a pipe or tubing. The device is comprised of a resilient sheet member in the form of a coil having a layer of heat sensitive bonding material applied to the inner surface of the resilient sheet member. The resilient sheet member coil is formed to an inner diameter slightly less than the outer diameter of the pipe or tubing. In the case where the resilient sheet member is used as a connector, the resilient sheet member is sprung to a diameter larger than the outer diameter of the pipe or tubing and retained in this expanded form by a heat sensitive material which melts upon being heated to allow contraction of the connector. At the same time, the heat sensitive bonding material forms a tight bond to the two ends of the pipes or tubing to be connected.
