  • Patent number: 5967406
Abstract: A shipping container formed from three blanks of sheet material (e.g., corrugated fiberboard) is convertible between a full-wall shipping mode and a partial-wall shipping/display mode. A first blank forms a wrap-style tray and the other two form identical convertible sidewall/divider components secured within the tray. In the shipping mode, the convertible sidewall/divider components form opposing sidewall portions of the container covering (preferably completely) the container sides between end walls of the tray. In this mode, the container is well suited for the shipment of empty plastic bottles and like contents to a product manufacturer who will fill the bottles with flowable (e.g., liquid) product and repack them after converting the container to the shipping/display mode. By pressing inwardly on a main panel of each convertible sidewall/divider component, a pivot action of doubled-back pivot panels attaching the main panel to the end walls of the tray converts the container to the shipping/display mode.

A plurality of openings are positioned in the front, rear or support walls adjacent to the bottom wall for receiving projections of articles to be carried in the display tray and retaining the articles in the article carrying rows. In one embodiment, a bottom wall flap member overlies the bottom wall and is folded to form at least one support wall spaced between front and rear walls and extending upward from the bottom wall to form a plurality of article carrying rows. The bottom wall flap member includes front and rear upward extending flap wall members positioned adjacent the interior of respective front and rear walls of the tray body.

Abstract: A carton made from a single blank of cardboard, paperboard or the like has a top having a rear portion which is substantially horizontal and a front portion which slopes downwardly and forwardly from said rear portion. The front portion may receive a dispensing spout. The carton is filled by first forming the top of the carton, then filling the carton through the open base and then closing the base. A blank for making the carton has top forming panels, and tuck forming panels connected between the top forming panels and side wall forming panels, the latter connection being by way of a hinge line with two contiguous sections at an angle to each other.

The panels can be folded relative to one another between a collapsed state in which the majority of them lie in compact, coplanar relationship and an erected state in which they define an open-topped box. A wheeled axle is connected to the structure to permit the box to wheeled over the ground. Handles are provided for carrying the structure when collapsed and for steering the trolley when erected. Also, tabs are provided that lock in suitable slots to maintain the collapsed and erected condition of the panels.

Abstract: A caddy for recyclable paper constructed from an irregular blank of corrugated plastic sheet material such as double-faced polyethylene, with a metal hanger allowing the caddy to be mounted on the rim of a conventional wastebasket. The carton includes an open top, a higher rear wall, lower front wall, and angled side walls. The ends of the hanger are received between a rear panel and rear foldover panel which are hingedly connected and folded into parallel abutting contact to form the rear wall, the central portion of the hanger extending upwardly through a slit formed between those panels. Fastening tabs extending from the rear panel are inserted through slots defined between one side wall panel and a side flap, and a reinforcing tab extending from the rear foldover panel prevents the top fastening tab from flexing.
