The handle is such that when the package is lifted by the handle, the barbs extend above the top of the aperture and the securing tabs extend below the bottom of the aperture.

  • Patent number: 5297727
Abstract: The present carton has a tear strip that is fully removed from the carton when the carton is opened. This is the case since the tear strip and associated adhesive is only across the front panel and the two pendant side flaps. It is not across the rear panel to which the lid remains hingedly attached after opening. In addition the side flaps attached to the front and rear panels are of a size of essentially that of the side of the carton which provides the carton with additional stacking strength.

  • Patent number: 5265799
Abstract: A flip-top recloseable carton and liner assembly includes a carton in the form of a six-sided parallelopiped enclosure having opposing top and bottom walls, front and back walls, and side walls formed from corresponding panels and flaps defined on a unitary, continuous paperboard blank. The assembly further includes a liner constructed and arranged to fit within the carton, the liner having opposing front and back panels and opposing side panels. The outer layers of the side walls and the front wall of the carton are provided with horizontal tear-strip sections which define an integral and continuous tear strip that functions as convenient means for opening the carton from its sealed form. Repeated closing and positive locking of the carton is realized using a die-cut portion on the liner front panel which includes a proximal flap and an island portion dispersed in forcibly displaceable mutual engagement.

  • Patent number: 5236123
Abstract: A liner-carton assembly includes a tear-tape mechanism for use with an offset printing operation. The assembly includes a carton having a top, a bottom, a pair of opposing sides and a flip-open top section including the top and a portion of the opposing sides. The liner is constructed and arranged to provide structural support to the carton and it includes a pair of opposing sides for fitting the liner snugly inside the carton. Moreover, the liner includes a tear-tape material on an outside surface thereof, and the carton includes means adjacent the tear-tape for tearing the top section along at least three sides to access the inside of the carton. Further, a two-part tab, which includes a first part connected to the tear-tape material and a second part connected to the carton, permits a user to hand-grasp the tab and pull the tear-tape material and separate the top section of the carton.

Abstract: A non-corrugated box cardboard construction. The box has exterior panels, top and bottom flaps, and interior pads. An interior panel lies interior to and immediately adjacent each exterior panel, whereby the interior panels reinforce and support the exterior panels. The exterior panels, interior panels and flaps are joined by continuity to each other, having been cut from a single sheet. The fold lines between the interior panels include perforation lines along the fold lines.

  • Patent number: 5209394
Abstract: A carton having two broad sides, two narrow sides and a tear tape spaced from the top and functionally extending through part or all of three of the sides but not extending completely through the fourth side. The fourth side is one of the narrow sides and functions as a hinge. When the tear tape is removed, the upper portions of three panels are separated from the lower aspects. The upper portions of the panels together with the top of the carton from a cover which pivots along the hinge formed by the fourth side. The carton is readily opened by means of the tear tape, yet product can be poured by grasping the carton's narrow end in the fashion of a traditional detergent carton. The carton may include a liner which extends to virtually the full height of the carton.

  • Patent number: 5203495
Abstract: The invention relates to a cardboard sales and dispenser box of a pocket carry-type and of a hinged hood or a cap-like lid type. The present invention provides an effective snap-locking mechanism for engaging laterally projecting ear portions on opposed side edges of a front panel portion of the dispensing boxes. The laterally projecting ear portions engage respective recesses on the inside of opposed lateral lid skirt portions. The recesses are spaced within the inner side of the front lid skirt, adjacent to the corners thereof, and the edges of the side flap portions of the lid panel are folded flat against the outer lateral lid skirt portions constructed by the side folded outer flap portions of the front lid skirt. Thus, the hinged lid is effectively snap-locked when the projecting ear portions are received in the recesses while the lid is closed.

  • Patent number: 5161733
Abstract: A carton for holding several cigarette packs is made so that it generally resembles and functions like a conventional hinge lid cigarette pack. The carton is made from an integral blank including innerframe panels and outer member panels, all arranged in a single side by side series. When the blank is folded to make the carton, the innerframe panels are positioned inside the appropriate outer member panels. The blank also includes top and bottom tuck flap panels which can be closed in order to close the carton after the innerframe panels have been folded inside the outer member panels as described above. A particularly preferred method of making up the carton is shown. The consumer opens the carton by pivoting an upper portion of the outer member up and to the rear just as with a conventional hinge lid cigarette box. The innerframe interferes somewhat with this lid motion, thereby helping to keep the lid closed as in a conventional hinge lid cigarette box.

The outer layers of the side walls and the front wall are provided with horizontal tear-strip sections which define an integral and continuous tear strip that functions as convenient means for opening the carton from its sealed from. Repeated closing and positive locking of the carton is realized by means of a die-cut portion on the interior surface of the front wall which includes a proximal flap and an island portion dispersed in forcibly displaceable mutual engagement. Once the engaging flap and island are disengaged forcibly by opening the carton top, reclosing thereof leads to snap re-engagement of the flap and island elements accompanied by positive tactile and audible feedback indicative of effective carton closure.
