Abstract: A two-way envelope includes first and second panels forming a content receiving pocket having multiple edges. A side flap is joined to one of the panels folded into the pocket on a fold line, and adhesively connected to the other panel within the pocket, sealing one edge of the pocket. The side flap includes a tear line spaced from the fold line. When not torn, the tear line provides a portion of the edge seal. The tear line, when torn, opens the pocket along the edge and forms a second flap edge, facilitating withdrawal of the flap from the pocket and removal or replacement of the contents of the envelope. The flap may be folded along the fold line over the other panel and adhered to the outside surface of the other panel to reseal the pocket for reuse of the envelope.

  • Patent number: 7644010
Abstract: A system and method to provide identification codes to track outbound mail and corresponding replies. Tracking is enabled where an intended recipient is not determined until after physical components of the mailpiece are assembled. A first ID code is associated with a second ID code on a return envelope. The first ID code is positioned on a front of the return envelope proximal to a return address on the return envelope. The second ID code is positioned on a back of the return envelope proximal to a recipient address region on the return envelope. The return envelope is inserted into a carrier envelope with the front of the return envelope facing the back of the carrier envelope, and the second ID code and the recipient address region being visible through a front window in the front of the carrier envelope. A recipient address is printed in the recipient address region of the reply envelope, through the front window on the carrier envelope.

  • Patent number: 7644004
Abstract: A system and method for preparing mail packages to be sent to recipients. The package includes a carrier envelope with a front address window and a back window. A content document having a style code printed on it is positioned at the back of the carrier envelope. The content style code is positioned to be visible through the back window of the carrier envelope. A reply envelope is enclosed with an address area aligned with the front window of the carrier envelope. Mail packages are prepared by storing a corresponding content style for the recipient. While transported, the content style code is scanned. From the style code, a recipient having the corresponding content style is selected from the stored list. That recipients name and address are printed onto the address area of the reply envelope through the address window on the front of the carrier envelope.

Abstract: An envelope for use in containing and authenticating a ballot is presented. The envelope has a containment region dimensioned to receive a ballot or other desired document in accordance with the particular application with which the envelope is used and has a pre-defined area on the back to carry the signature of a person such as a voter using the envelope to vote by mail. A flap portion outside the pre-defined area is used to seal the containment region. A window cover is substantially in registration with the pre-defined signature area to obscure the signature in a first operative configuration and to reveal the pre-defined signature area in a second operative and to re-obscure the signature area after the signature area has been revealed whereby the ballot remains sealed during the pre-defined signature area obscured, revealed and re-obscured configurations. The window cover is arranged for automatic removal by mechanical opening means for automated processing.

Abstract: Embodiments of an envelope that is reusable and allows for efficient rerouting between intended recipients of the item in the envelope are disclosed. The envelope may be constructed of a durable material and may have various features that allow the envelope to be automatically sent via a carrier from one recipient to another. Thus, when a recipient of the item returns the envelope via the carrier, the envelope can be correctly processed and forwarded on to the next recipient with the same item, without the need of sending the item back to a return center or other entity. The term envelope generally includes envelopes, mailers and packages. Embodiments may include an envelope that facilitates multiple sorting and delivery cycles by the delivery service without the need for reconfiguration, repair, or replacement of the envelope.

  • Patent number: 7467747
Abstract: Methods and systems that provide privacy of signatures on envelopes containing ballots are provided. The envelope for returning ballots includes a flap with a window that aligns with a signature area on the envelope. The window appears opaque under normal lighting conditions, but appears transparent when illuminated with light having a predetermined wavelength. A movable signature stub is positioned on top of the signature area. The voter signs the back of the envelope on the signature stub, thereby imprinting a signature on the signature area by transferring a material from the signature stub to the signature area, and moves the signature stub. The flap of the envelope is then sealed, thereby covering the voter's signature in the signature area with the window of the envelope flap. To read the signature, light having the predetermined wavelength can be directed onto the window, thereby rendering the window transparent and the signature visible.

  • Patent number: 7350689
Abstract: A reusable tamper-evident envelope includes a first substrate, a second substrate superimposed on the first substrate, at least one auxiliary substrate superimposed on and joined along one edge to the second substrate, and at least one seal along all but one edge joining the first substrate to the second substrate. Each auxiliary substrate is spaced a user-defined distance from the top edge of the first substrate. A perforation line, extending from the left side to the right side of both the first substrate and second substrates facilitate removal of a portion of the respective substrates. After an item is placed into the envelope, the user-activated seal along the remaining edge joins the first substrate to the second substrate. Subsequent uses are possible by removing portions of the first substrate and second substrate along the perforation lines and activating the auxiliary user-activated seal along the auxiliary substrate joining the first substrate to the second substrate.
