Abstract: A container that has a laminate that has a substrate with a gloss layer and a matte layer is provided. A portion of the laminate is located at a seal portion of the container, and a plurality of cavities extend through the gloss layer but do not extend through any amount of the matte layer at the portion of the laminate that is located at the seal portion. The plurality of cavities function to reduce the severity of pinholes at the seal portion.
Abstract: A process for applying an energy-curable primer and a brilliant metallic ink to a paperboard or paper substrate is provided. The primer may be cured using an energy curing system such as a UV or EB curing system. The curable primer facilitates the orientation of the metallic pigment particles to provide a coherent reflectance of light and optimal reflectance. Advantageously, the primer-cured paper may be “spot-coated” with the metallic ink at pre-designated areas, which minimizes the amount of metallic ink used. In exemplary embodiments, the metallic paper is over-coated with one or more transparent or opaque inks Additionally, the cured, primer coated paper may be subjected to corona discharge to remove excess solvent and compounds in the liquid phase within the matrix of the cured primer and/or to increase the surface tension of the primer. In certain circumstances, the metallic paper and the end product are recyclable and repulpable.
Abstract: A paperboard container including a paperboard substrate that defines at least one wall panel and at least one partition panel, the wall panel defining an internal volume, the partition panel including a first major surface and a second major surface, and being position in the internal volume such that the first major surface defines a first chamber within the internal volume and the second major surface defines a second chamber within the internal volume, and a friction-reducing coating applied to at least a portion of the first and/or second major surfaces.

Abstract: A single-piece blank forms a clamshell-style carton. This single-piece blank includes a plurality of fold lines. These fold lines are oriented and positioned such that folding the single-piece blank along the plurality of fold lines forms this clamshell-style carton. The resultant carton will tend to have a first compartment and a second compartment. Both compartments comprise corresponding storage areas of approximately equal size and both also share a particular fold line that also serves as a hinged edge.
Abstract: The invention relates to a laminated board grade structure used for low cost, enhanced graphics packaging. The product contains an unbleached or bleached substrate board and a lightweight coated unprinted white paper grade laminated to the unbleached board substrate to produce a product with a smooth coated, glossy surface for quality graphics printing.

Abstract: A multi-ply composite container for consumer products is provided having a tubular body ply, a liner ply and a film label ply. The tubular body ply is formed of paperboard material, and the liner ply is adhered to the inner surface of the tubular body ply. The film label ply is adhered to the outer surface of the tubular body ply and is comprised of a polymeric film having inner and outer surfaces and an adhesive on at least a portion of the inner surface of the polymeric film. Graphical matter can be included on at least a portion of the inner surface of the polymeric film under the adhesive. The adhesive is for adhering the label ply to the outer surface of the tubular body ply and can be either a heat seal coating or a cold seal coating.
