  • Patent number: 10043042
Abstract: A decodable indicia reading terminal can comprise a multiple pixel image sensor, an imaging lens configured to focus an image of decodable indicia on the image sensor, an analog-to-digital (A/D) converter configured to convert an analog signal read out of the image sensor into a digital signal, a communication interface, and a microprocessor configured to output decoded message data corresponding to the decodable indicia by processing the digital signal. The decodable indicia reading terminal can be configured, responsive to a triggering event, to transmit via the communication interface a decoding result and an indicia readability rating. The triggering event can be provided by a failure to detect decodable indicia, the indicia readability rating being less than a pre-defined threshold, exceeding a pre-defined time period to decode decodable indicia, a user interface action, and a command received via said communication interface.

Abstract: A method for verifying a lighting setup used for inspecting a micro defect. The method includes simulating a scene including a micro defect, light source and imaging device. A position of the light source and imaging device is then optimized to form an optimized simulated setup for viewing micro defect. A shadow calibration reference (SCR) having a simulated shadow field is then rendered in a location. Next, a physical imaging device and light source are positioned based on information from the optimized simulated setup to form an optimized physical setup. A physical SCR based on information from the SCR rendering is fabricated. Next, an image is captured of a physical SCR in a corresponding location associated with each SCR rendering. The optimized physical setup is verified if at least one shadow parameter from the SCR rendering is substantially similar to a corresponding shadow parameter in a corresponding image.

Abstract: Disclosed herein is a process for pairing one or more wireless transmitters with a power head unit of a barrier opening system prior to delivering the system to the end user. In one facility, an authorization code of a wireless transmitter is received and passed to a printer that prints an encoded label with indicia corresponding to the authorization code. The so-encoded label is affixed to the wireless transmitter or its packaging or pallet. In another facility, the encoded label is thereafter scanned, and the authorization code is deciphered and stored in a database. The power head is programmed with the identical code by placing the power head into a learn mode, retrieving the deciphered authorization code from the database, and transmitting the retrieved code to the power head using a test transmitter while the power head is in the learn mode, with the power head thereafter moved out of the learn mode, thereby pairing the transmitter with the power head.

Abstract: An information processing system includes an information bearing medium and an information reading unit. The information bearing medium has a two-dimensional array of unit data zones. Marks are provided on some of the unit data zones so as to form a digital code. Mark patterns of any two Y-directional adjacent unit data zone strings based on the arrangement of marks in an X-direction differ from each other. The information reading unit generates a data string on the basis of a unit signal formed from a plurality of signals output from a group of detection units that detect the marks in synchronization and recognizes the digital code of the information bearing medium on the basis of a group of the data strings sequentially obtained from the array of the unit data zones.

Abstract: In a system and method of estimating and classifying a barcode using heuristic and statistical measures, a classification determination is generated for each of a plurality of estimated barcode digits that correspond to a decoded barcode estimation. The classification determination is selected from one of a first classification determination and a second classification determination. The first classification determinations among a plurality of estimation determinations are aggregated. The aggregated first classification determinations are compared to a first predetermined threshold to determine a validity of the decoded barcode estimation.

Abstract: In a system and method of recognizing a barcode from a stream of video frames, a processor-implemented camera module receives a stream of video frames, with at least one video frame including a barcode. A processor-implemented barcode blur estimate module estimates an amount of defocus blur in a video frame. The processor-implemented barcode blur estimate module further estimates an identity of the barcode. A processor-implemented barcode localization module identifies a region of the video frame containing the barcode. A processor-implemented barcode geometric modeler module generates a geometric model of the barcode that includes an identified barcode deformity. A processor-implemented barcode decoder module decodes the barcode from the video frame using the estimated amount of defocus blur, the estimated identity of the barcode, and the geometric model of the barcode.

Abstract: A method includes identifying a set of functional parameters that are settable for processing the image and a plurality of instances of the set of functional parameters. A different mode for processing this image corresponds to each of these instances. The method includes selecting a determined processing mode for decoding the optical information from the processing modes of a working set of processing modes, and applying this selected processing mode and further comprises associating with each processing mode a respective probability of success. Selecting one of the methods of the working set includes choosing the processing mode with the highest value of probability of success and updating after each application of the selected processing mode, both if the decoding was successful and if the decoding was not successful, the probability of success of each processing mode of the working set, such as to perform adaptive decoding of the optical information.
