Patent number: 5103413Abstract: A travel detecting apparatus is disclosed which generates a pulse signal in response to vehicle motion and detects the actual rate of vehicle travel in accordance with the pulse signal. The apparatus comprises a speed or RPM sensor coupled to an automotive transmission for generating a first pulse signal representative of the vehicle speed or RPM, a tire-size setting switch for setting tire information relating to the dimensions of the tires of the vehicle, and a CPU for frequency converting the first pulse signal in response to the tire information to generate a second pulse and for detecting the rate of vehicle travel in accordance with the second pulse signal.Type: GrantFiled: July 19, 1990Date of Patent: April 7, 1992Assignee: Yazaki CorporationInventor: Hiroaki Ohata

Patent number: 4697278Abstract: An electronic hub odometer employs a permanent magnet and a magnetic reed switch for recording the number of revolutions of a vehicle wheel to which the odometer is mounted. A programmable integrated circuit electrically communicates with a clock crystal and the magnetic reed switch to automatically produce data relative to the time, distance and rate of travel of the associated vehicle. The data is stored in a random access memory integrated circuit. An infrared light emitting diode is employed for transmitting the data from the odometer to a remote unit. Information is also transmitted to the odometer from a remote unit via a photo-optical detector.Type: GrantFiled: March 1, 1985Date of Patent: September 29, 1987Assignee: Veeder Industries Inc.Inventor: Donald W. Fleischer

Patent number: 4680454Abstract: An odometer for use by a golfer in the measurement of distance covered by each shot. The odometer attaches to the wheel of the cart and counts revolutions or parts of a revolution of the wheel through the use of a magnetic head that rotates past a Hall effect sensor. A digital readout indicator displays yards covered.Type: GrantFiled: October 3, 1986Date of Patent: July 14, 1987Inventors: Robert E. Zeaman, David E. Meyer

Patent number: 4563574Abstract: A hub odometer having a protective case adapted to be mounted axially on an axle cap of a vehicle with a substantially cylindrical carrier plate rotatably mounted in the case for supporting a counting mechanism having figure wheels. The shaft of the figure wheels is mounted transversely of the axis of rotation of the case within the carrier plate, and a reduction gearing transfers the relative rotation of case and carrier plate to the figure wheels. At least one ball of heavy metal is provided, the ball being movably positioned in substantially diametrical opposition with respect to the case axis to the figure wheels, the ball being heavier than the counting mechanism.Type: GrantFiled: September 28, 1984Date of Patent: January 7, 1986Assignee: Jost-Werke GmbHInventors: Hans Dreyer, Manfred Rieger

Patent number: 4510379Abstract: A control device for an instrument (10) attached to a vehicle wheel hub for recording the distance covered by the vehicle comprises a counting mechanism with several number-carrying wheels (25), a stamping mechanism (29,30) for stamping cards, a means (14) for advancing the number-carrying wheels of the counting mechanism in response to the distance covered, and a pendulum, the oscillation axis of which coincides with the vehicle wheel axle, and which by substantially standing still effects a relative movement in relation to the recording instrument. This movement is utilized for driving the means for advancing the number-carrying wheels of the counting mechanism via a gear unit (12). The means for advancing the number-carrying wheels of the counting mechanism comprise a feed hook (14), which is deformed permanently when number-carrying wheels of the counting mechanism are blocked, and thereby effects permanent closing of a first electric contact (14b-34).Type: GrantFiled: November 7, 1983Date of Patent: April 9, 1985Assignee: Haldex ABInventors: Sven Wallqvist, Rune Sund

Patent number: 4156131Abstract: A hub odometer having a pendulous recording mechanism with loose ball anti-orbiting means with two damping balls mounted within a radial ball track diametrally of the center of gravity of the pendulous recording mechanism and having a width in the circumferential direction approximately equal to but slightly greater than the total width of the two damping balls.Type: GrantFiled: September 28, 1977Date of Patent: May 22, 1979Assignee: Veeder Industries Inc.Inventors: Jerry L. Haynes, Oliver R. Thomas, Jr.

Patent number: 4140899Abstract: A distance measuring meter includes counting wheels which are indexed by transfer pinions mounted on an axle parallel to the axis of the counting wheels. In order to prevent fraud by rotating the counting wheels back so as to decrease the distance displayed, one end of the axle is detachably secured. When an attempt is made to rotate the counting wheels back, the axle detaches at one end, thereby indicating that the meter has been tampered with.Type: GrantFiled: December 6, 1976Date of Patent: February 20, 1979Assignee: Record Taxameter ABInventor: Lennart Borgstrom

Patent number: 4135713Abstract: A revolving skipping device has a crank with end portions connected to flexible loops over which a skipper may jump. The device includes a counter having a ratchet face with numerals indexed by one end of a pivoted pawl having a weighted mass on the other end cooperatively associated with the crank for recording the number of cycles jumped by the skipper.Type: GrantFiled: January 3, 1978Date of Patent: January 23, 1979Assignee: Graber-Rogg, Inc.Inventor: Harold B. Martin

Patent number: 4102074Abstract: This invention comprises an actuator for a mechanical counting device for cording and storing data. This actuator includes a weight having an eccentric center of mass which is freely pivotable in one plane within pre-set limits in response to an externally applied impulse force of a predetermined magnitude to apply a torque force within prescribed limits to a shaft which, upon rotation thereof under the influence of such torque force, actuates the counter mechanism to record a count. Means are provided to apply counter torque force of a constant predetermined magnitude to the shaft, so that the counter is actuated only in response to a resultant torque force of a predetermined magnitude generated by the impulse. Torque limiting means are also provided to permit operation of the counter within an impulse band or range greater than the band or range achievable without use of such torque limiting means.Type: GrantFiled: February 7, 1977Date of Patent: July 25, 1978Assignee: The United States of America as represented by the Secretary of the ArmyInventor: William L. Andre

Patent number: 4101762Abstract: A hub meter for recording distance covered includes a housing and counter both of which rotate, along with a hub of a wheeled vehicle. A shaft is held generally stationary, with respect to the hub by an annular pendulum, fixed to the shaft and containing a plurality of lead balls.Type: GrantFiled: June 14, 1976Date of Patent: July 18, 1978Assignee: AB Record Taxameter ABInventor: Carl Gote Lennart Borgstrom

Patent number: 4083489Abstract: A distance measuring device for attachment to the hub of a vehicle wheel includes a pendulum, which remains generally stationary, as the hub rotates. A counting mechanism rotates with the hub, and is coupled through a worm wheel and lost-motion mechanism to the pendulum. The lost-motion mechanism reciprocates a feeding arm against the bias of a spring, which shifts periodically back and forth over center, as the lost-motion mechanism periodically transmits motion. A feed spring, mounted on the feeding arm, acts as a pawl to intermittently advance a ratchet wheel, coaxially disposed on the counting mechanism, to thereby index the counting mechanism as the vehicle wheel turns. If the counting mechanism, by any means, becomes jammed then the feed spring will deform, preventing further operation of the counting mechanism.Type: GrantFiled: September 10, 1975Date of Patent: April 11, 1978Assignee: Record Taxameter ABInventor: Lennart Borgstrom
