  • Publication number: 20100237156
Abstract: A heating system and method includes a water circulation system for heating the interior of a building. The system further includes a boiler for storing and alternatively heating the water, and a fireplace jacket positioned in a fireplace of the building. The fireplace jacket includes a serpentine shaped length of pipe for circulating water. Fireplace jacket inlet and outlet ports communicate with the boiler for circulating the water in a closed system. A heating system control system manages the circulation of the water in the circulation system. The control system includes a safety unit having a thermometer, and the control system automatically circulates the water when the water is heated to a specified temperature. The control system automatically switches between using fossil fuel to heat the water in the boiler and using the fireplace jacket to heat the water in the boiler.

  • Publication number: 20040182945
Abstract: An expansion tank which is intended to be connected to a pipe system which is filled or is to be filled with a liquid, comprises a closed tank with at least one connection opening for a liquid pipe. The tank is provided with a main valve inside the tank having a valve seat and a closure member and being designed to close off the connection opening at a defined difference between the pressure in the interior of the tank and the pressure in the connection opening and/or at a defined liquid level in the tank. The tank is further provided with an additional valve for closing off a channel or passage extending through the closure member of the main valve from the interior of the tank to the connection opening.

  • Patent number: 4732319
Abstract: A fill valve for a water heating system. An expansion tank is provided with a flexible diaphragm which divides the tank into a water chamber and a closed gas chamber. A fill valve assembly is mounted within an opening in the tank and includes a valve body having an axial passage and a radial passage connects the axial passage to a water inlet. One end of the axial passage communicates with the water chamber of the expansion tank, while the opposite end of the axial passage communicates with the water heating system. The central portion of the axial passage defines a valve seat and a hollow valve member is mounted for sliding movement in the axial passage, and the inner end of the valve member extends into the tank in position to be contacted by the diaphragm. Mounted on the valve member is an annular valve which is biased to engage the valve seat. A plurality of ports extends laterally of the valve member and provides communication between the inlet and the interior of the valve member.

  • Patent number: 4601426
Abstract: The heating system includes water-radiators, a heat source as a boiler and/or one or more water-accumulators, an expansion vessel and a pipe-circulation system interconnecting the radiators and the source through which the water is pumped. The system is intended for one-family-houses with normally at most two floors above a cellar or a basement in which the source is situated. The expansion vessel is contrary to conventional open expansion systems arranged below the levels of the radiators in the boiler room and thus frost-free and immediately above or beside the top of the heat source. Its own top is provided with an open outlet to the atmospheric air in the boiler room. Thus the heat source is exposed approximately only for the very low water-pressure from its own water. Contrary to the heat source the radiators with belonging riser- and return-pipes are exposed to the same high water-pressure as at conventional radiator-systems with the expansion vessel situated above the topmost radiators.

  • Patent number: 4471907
Abstract: A closed-loop, incompressible-liquid circulating, hydronic heating system, for instance, a hot water heating system, which utilizes a Venturi-type control device to effect communication between the circulating hydronic heating system and a storage tank. The storage tank, which is maintained at ambient atmospheric pressure, is connected to the throat of the Venturi. The inlet and outlet of the Venturi are connected to the pump outlet and inlet, respectively, in parallel with the main circulating loop. The Venturi control device automatically controls the pressure in the circulating system by means of controlling the flow of incompressible-liquid between the storage tank and the incompressible-liquid circulating system. The Venturi control device responds automatically to changes of pressure in the circulating system. The pressure differential between the Venturi throat and the Venturi inlet remains constant.

  • Patent number: 4401101
Abstract: A wood-fired boiler and hot liquid storage system includes a top-vented storage tank for the liquid, a firebox supported within the tank at a level for complete immersion within the liquid, with the bottom of the firebox spaced above the bottom of the tank, and with a firebox end opening in liquid tight engagement with the edges of a corresponding tank side wall opening, and a firebox door for selectively closing the opening and permitting introduction of solid fuel. Combustion gases from the firebox are discharged through an open vertical stack extending up through the tank and liquid to an outlet opening outside the tank. Preheated combustion air is introduced at the firebox opening and fed by forced draft through the firebox and stack by a blower. The preheating is provided by a special firebox door construction in which incoming air passes between inner and outer walls of the door and is preheated by the hot inner door wall while it also keeps the outer door wall at a lower temperature.
