  • Patent number: 6050499
Abstract: A rotary atomizing head type coating machine which is capable of washing deposited paint from fore end portions of outer peripheral surface of a bell cup. Thinner passages are provided on the bell cup to communicate a paint reservoir with the outer peripheral surface of the bell cup. Thinner which flows out onto the outer peripheral surface of the bell cup through the thinner passages is guided toward the marginal releasing edge of the bell cup. To this end, assist air is spurted out through assist air outlet holes which are provided in the fore end face of a shaping air ring at positions radially on the inner side of shaping air outlet holes. Accordingly, at the time of a washing operation, the thinner which has come out onto the outer peripheral surface of the bell cup is forcibly pushed on the outer peripheral surface by the actions of assist air and shaping air as the thinner is guided toward the fore end of the bell cup to wash away deposited paint therefrom.

Abstract: A sprinkler having an output orifice through which water operatively flows, includes a flush cap adapted for movement relative to the output orifice from a free position wherein the cap is disengaged from the sprinkler, to a locked position wherein the cap is generally fixed to the sprinkler and substantially covers the output orifice. The flush cap in the free position is angularly displaced in a single plane from the flush cap in the locked position. A deflector, disposed at an obtuse angle to the axis of the cap, biases the cap to the locked position during a flushing operation. Pulling grip portions of a handle also biases the cap to the locked position. An associated method includes the step of tilting the flush cap in a single plane in order to engage the sprinkler in the lock position.

Abstract: A method and apparatus are disclosed for capturing coating debris during laser ablation of a photoreceptor comprising: (a) enclosing a predetermined length of a coated substrate in a housing to result in an enclosed coated substrate portion, wherein there exists a gap between the enclosed substrate portion and the housing in communication with air outside the housing; (b) directing high energy radiation at the coating of the enclosed substrate portion; (c) directing a first fluid stream against the coating of the enclosed substrate portion to remove at least part of the coating in the form of coating debris during or subsequent to (b), whereby the first fluid stream may move a portion of the coating debris outside the housing in the absence of (d); (d) directing an annularly-shaped second fluid stream against the first fluid stream in a direction effective for keeping the coating debris inside the housing, thereby minimizing movement of the coating debris into the air outside the housing; and (e) exhausting t

  • Patent number: 5400967
Abstract: The dripper and mini-spray include an inlet and an outlet coupled to a housing which defines a substantially spherical, ellipsoidal, or cylindrical chamber. The chamber houses a ball which can roll about the chamber freely, but which is too large to exit through either the inlet or outlet. A whirlpool is caused by water or other liquids entering the chamber through the inlet due to the particular orientation and position of the inlet, the shape of the chamber, and optional water obstructing structures such as a reflector pad and a deflector ridge and slot openings therein. The resultant whirlpool(s) flush debris from the chamber and push the ball around the chamber for a predetermined period of time. The ball then becomes seated against the outlet to substantially obstruct the passageway out in a pressure-compensated manner.

The chamber houses a ball which can roll about the chamber freely, but which is too large to exit through either the inlet or outlet. The outlet includes a cradle which is formed with ridges and/or slots. The inlet of the dripper is horizontally attached to an irrigation line and with water pressure in the line the ball is forced against the cradle, effectively closing off the outlet, however some water is able to escape via openings formed by the ridges/slots. At the beginning of each irrigation cycle a small whirlpool is created in the chamber, pushing the ball about, which flushes out any debris which has accumulated in the chamber.

Abstract: Nozzles are provided for spraying a wetting medium into the gas flow in an activating reactor. The nozzle comprises a nozzle body having a plurality of nozzles The nozzle body is surrounded by a flexible and/or porous casing and a conduit introduces a gaseous medium into the casing. The gas can be introduced in either pulses or continuously. The gas introduced in pulses causes the casing to change its form and, where a perforated or porous casing is used, the continuous gas flow forms a protective gas film around the casing, thus removing the solid material accumulated on the casing.

  • Patent number: 5232156
Abstract: A self-cleaning spray nozzle and header system sprays liquid upon a predetermined area. As the liquids employed in such spraying operations are often contaminated by suspended particulate matter, blockages of the small nozzle orifice often occur. To clear such blockages and restore the nozzle to operation, a grooved piston forming part of the nozzle orifice is retracted from its seated position within the nozzle barrel. Once the piston is retracted, the barrel opens to its full diameter allowing lodged particles to be flushed away. Several nozzles mounted in tandem upon a fluid distribution pipe form part of a header system which can deliver, in the form of spray, large liquid volumes. The header system allows the self-cleaning function of several nozzles to be efficiently controlled by a single apparatus.

Abstract: A spray head (10) for a spraying device operated by pressing down an actuating cap (70) against the initial tension of a spring (30) allowing to atomize and focus-spray a sprayable and preferably liquid product by compressed air. The spray head is provided with a spray nozzle (58) wherein the compressed air and the product, up to here transported in two different canals, through an ascending tube (50) immersed into a product container, are mixed, atomized and focus-sprayed. Spray head (10) shows two separate valves with initial tension in closing position (22; 24) of which the first valve (22) is positioned in a passage canal of the air pressure canal forwarding the compressed air to the spray nozzle (58) and the container interior, and the second valve (24) is positioned inside the product canal by which the product is transported through the ascending tube (50) from the container to the spray nozzle (58).

  • Patent number: 5190216
Abstract: A method and apparatus for delivering metered and atomized quantities of liquid to an internal combustion engine wherein the liquid is metered in a T-shaped fitting having a liquid supply arm, an air arm which is perpendicular to the supply arm, and a delivery arm is aligned with the supply arm. Liquid is pumped from a liquid source to fill the supply and part of the delivery arm of the T-shaped fitting. A predetermined pulse of pressurized air is delivered to the air arm of the T-shaped fitting, transversely striking and severing the accumulated liquid in the delivery arm from the liquid in the supply arm to form a liquid slug. The pressurized air pulse forces the liquid slug out of the T-shaped fitting into an acceleration pipe, accelerates the liquid slug through the acceleration pipe, stores kinetic energy in the moving liquid slug, moves the liquid slug through a nozzle, atomizes the liquid slug, and cleans the nozzle and preconnected passages of residual liquid.

Abstract: A self cleaning, plug resistant, adjustable parameter feed distributing and delivery apparatus for a glass melter comprising a housing with a passage therethrough for a glass slurry, a cold finger within the passage for creating a dispersion pattern of the slurry, a movable slotted tube for controlling the confluence of air propellant and slurry in the passage, and a plurality of ribs that extend through the slots in the slotted tube to urge the slurry forward if it becomes stuck or resists forward movement. Coolant passages in the housing and the cold finger maintain the slurry temperature below that of the melter plenum. The cold finger is axially movable to adjust the dispersion pattern to the desired consistency. Other design features of size can be applied for use in situations requiring different parameters of pattern, particle size, rate, and feed consistencies. The device utilizes air as both a propellant and a surface cleansing mechanism.

The spray manifold further comprises a first check valve downstream of the mixing chamber, and a second check valve mounted in the material inlet port. The material to be sprayed is intermittently or cyclically pumped past the second check valve into the mixing chamber. Pressurized air mixes therein with the material and the mixture is sprayed past the first check valve. A reduction in pressure of the pumped material closes the second check valve.
