Patent number: 5186388Abstract: A process and apparatus are provided for injecting dry lightweight particulate material into a stream of catalyzed resin. The dry lightweight particulate material is stored in a fluidizing tank. The fluidized dry particles are conveyed from the tank under a controlled vacuum created by a low pressure venturi pump. An anti-static conveying tube delivers the dry lightweight particulate material to an adjustable delivery tube which terminates with a nozzle. The nozzle delivers a low velocity controlled spray pattern which coincides with the stream of pressurized resin. The nozzle is positioned at an acute angle relative to the longitudinal axis of the resin stream and injects the dry lightweight particulate material into the stream. Within the venturi pump and opposite to the main low pressure, low volume inlet, is a second pressurized inlet. This inlet directly controls the degree of vacuum, thereby precisely determining the amount of dry lightweight particles delivered to the resin stream.Type: GrantFiled: August 16, 1991Date of Patent: February 16, 1993Assignee: Electrostatic Components, Inc.Inventors: Michael Chapman, Michael Sumple

Patent number: 4963392Abstract: A fiber spray system for depositing fibers onto a substrate or article comprises a vibrating feeder bowl having an opening in its sidewall covered by a grid or screen through which fibers loaded into the feeder bowl are discharged therefrom into the fiber collector. A delivery hose is connected between the fiber collector and a pump which is operative to create a negative pressure within the fiber collector to draw fibers through the grid of the feeder bowl, out of the feeder bowl into the fiber collector and to entrain the collected fibers within a stream of air. The air-entrained fibers are drawn through the delivery hose to the pump, and in the course of passage therethrough the velocity of the fibers is reduced so that they collect or accumulate within an area in the delivery hose upstream from the pump. The pump uniformly withdraws fibers from the area where they accumulate and discharges the fibers directly into a spray gun connected to the pump for deposition onto a substrate.Type: GrantFiled: October 21, 1988Date of Patent: October 16, 1990Assignee: Nordson CorporationInventors: Julius J. Patent number: 4948054Abstract: A low cost, hand-held sprayer that is pneumatically powered so that a wall or ceiling may be textured. The sprayer includes a hollow J-shaped body that is filled with a liquid texture material. An air passage communicates with an air supply and extends through the sprayer body to deliver respective streams of air to an exit orifice at the bottom of the body and to an air chamber at the top of the body. An air escape hole is formed through the sprayer body to communicate with the air chamber at a location above the material supply. By manually closing the air escape opening, a positive air pressure is created within the air chamber to force the entire column of material towards the exit orifice at the bottom of the sprayer body. Accordingly, air from the air passage is mixed with material and injected through the exit orifice to thereby discharge and atomize the material.Type: GrantFiled: March 7, 1989Date of Patent: August 14, 1990Assignee: Behr Process CorporationInventor: Gregory B. Patent number: 4650004Abstract: A fire extinguishing apparatus for dispensing a dry chemical agent from a container by using a suitable supply of compressed gas such as carbon dioxide. The compressed gas is used to fluidize the chemical agent and carry the agent to a hand manipulated nozzle which is aimed at the fire. The extinguishing apparatus is actuated by removing a safety pin from the actuating lever, depressing the lever depresses a plunger valve that opens a passage from the container to the nozzle outlet and simultaneously transfers a linear motion to a tubular spool through a connecting lever. The tubular spool punctures a seal on a compressed gas cartridge releasing the gas into the container aerating the dry chemical and transporting it through the open plunger valve and out the nozzle.Type: GrantFiled: October 29, 1984Date of Patent: March 17, 1987Assignee: The Goodyear Tire & Rubber CompanyInventors: Paul R. Patent number: 4391860Abstract: The invention contemplates a powder-feeding system for gas-propelled delivery of a powder to be controllably supplied, as to a flame-spraying gas torch or to a transferred-arc plasma torch. A fluidizing chamber receives (a) fluidizing-gas flow from below a porous screen, and (b) a restricted gravitational flow of powder at a relatively small central discharge location above the porous screen. A gas conduit extends transversely through the chamber between the powder-discharge location and the porous screen; it has a carrier-gas supply connection at one end and a gas-propelled powder-delivery connection at its other end. The conduit also has an upwardly extending opening virtually beneath and facing the powder-discharge location, but a shed interposed between this opening and the powder-discharge location sufficiently overlaps the opening to assure that no powder will pass through the opening and into the conduit unless it has been gas-fluidized.Type: GrantFiled: February 23, 1981Date of Patent: July 5, 1983Assignee: Eutectic CorporationInventors: Anthony J.
