  • Patent number: 5454517
Abstract: An air brush is shown and described including a replaceable, rotatable, nozzle head including a media port and a needle arrangement. Media contamination of the air brush is limited to the removable nozzle head, thereby making the air brush body free of media contamination. By rotatable mounting of the nozzle head, a variety of media sources are made available, ranging from gravity fed devices such as media top and side cups to suction fed devices such as media jars. The trigger arrangement of the present invention presents an actuator shaft movable longitudinally in response to trigger movement for engagement of the needle of the nozzle head. Mechanical coupling between the air brush body and nozzle head is limited to structural coupling for mounting the nozzle head and an abutment relationship between the actuator shaft and the needle. This allows rotational freedom of movement for the nozzle head relative to the body, and also ease of dismounting by simply separating the nozzle head from the air brush body.

The over the shoulder mode places the weight of the hose upon the operator's legs and thereby reduces fatigue and gives the operator greater control.

  • Patent number: 4899940
Abstract: A spray washing appliance is disclosed, having special utility in connection with washing of motor vehicles and the like. The appliance comprises a primary gripping handle, typically in the configuration of a pistol grip, which mounts an elongated, rotatable wand provided at its outer end with a spray discharge nozzle. The wand has a manipulating grip, spaced from the primary grip, and is provided with at least one relatively sharp bend adjacent the nozzle portion, and preferably with a second, opposite bend part way between the manipulating grip and the nozzle section. An operator holds the appliance with the primary grip in one hand and the manipulating grip in the other. By rotating the wand relative to the handle, the operator can with ease and convenience spray all areas of a vehicle, including relatively inaccessible areas, such as the undercarriage, roof, etc.

Abstract: A spray head assembly is made from a very few number of injection molded parts. Preferably a pair of elongated housing shells fit together in face-to-face confrontation, with a spring biased actuator arm or control lever pivotally mounted between them. The lever has a metal shaft extending therefrom, which passes through a flexible cone in a rubber bulkhead to maintain a waterproof seal. In front of the bulkhead is a solid plastic plate having mounted therein a reciprocally slidable member controlled by the lever. In one embodiment, the sliding member contains a generally triangular or tapered opening or openings having a sector of a circle for a base. Depending upon the position of the slide, the opening moves up or down to open or close a water passageway through the spray head. The sliding member first presents the smaller sectors of the opening or openings to an associated sealing ring to minimize the abruptness of any change in discontinuity of water flow at the edge of the opening.
