Patent number: 11801520Abstract: A cable driven irrigation device has a frame that acts as a manifold to supply a sprinkler head and a separate spray nozzle. The frame is supplied with an externally triggered latching valve. The valve is held in the open position by a spring and has an internal flap that enters the flow of water through the valve when the external trigger is moved. The water flow moves the flap to the closed position and holds it there until the water pressure is removed. The spray nozzle dispenses water onto an exposed turbine which drives a gearbox. The gearbox is coupled to a spool which can wind up a cord. The spool being wound is what pulls the sprinkler along. A knot near the end of the cord engages the external trigger to stop the flow of water into the frame.Type: GrantFiled: May 12, 2021Date of Patent: October 31, 2023Inventor: Lynn Rodes

Patent number: 7182274Abstract: Aspects of the invention relate to a sprinkler apparatus providing multiple operational modes. For instance, the apparatus can operate as a conventional traveling sprinkler. In addition, the apparatus can provide one or more additional ports so that a user can attach additional hoses or other watering or irrigation equipment. The apparatus can include a switch so that a user can selectively switch a valve so that a fluid flows substantially exclusively to one of these additional ports. In one embodiment, a hose or other fluid dispensing device can be attached to one of the additional ports so that an operator can wash a car, water hanging pots, or perform other watering functions that cannot be accomplished by a traveling sprinkler.Type: GrantFiled: November 16, 2003Date of Patent: February 27, 2007Assignee: Melnor, Inc.Inventor: Juergen Nies

Patent number: 6745959Abstract: An irrigator has a single irrigation arm adapted to move in reciprocal rotational motion. In a first setting, the irrigator sprays irrigating liquid at a first orientation with respect to the arm to move the arm in a first direction. In a second setting, the irrigator sprays irrigating liquid at a second orientation with respect to the arm to effect a reversal in the rotational direction of the arm. Alternating mechanisms are provided to alter the arm between the first and second settings.Type: GrantFiled: June 5, 2001Date of Patent: June 8, 2004Inventor: Stuart Dundonald Reid

Patent number: 5249631Abstract: A mobile robot is provided with a fluid conduit which is connected to an on board fluid-responsive turbine. An on board electric generator and/or hydraulic pump is connected to the mechanical output of the turbine such that power for the robot is generated when the turbine rotates due to the flow of fluid through the conduit. The fluid may then be expelled through a nozzle and used as an extinguishant, a propellant or a coolant.Type: GrantFiled: May 24, 1989Date of Patent: October 5, 1993Inventor: Bran Ferren

Patent number: 5236131Abstract: A wheeled vehicle carries a reel 3 on to which part of a long length of hose may be coiled, with the end of the hose coupled to a hose connection 10 which conveys water to a hollow axle 7 about which the reel 3 rotates and through a swivel coupling 12 to a hollow shaft 13 from which the water flows through shorter hoses 16, mounted on long arms 14, to nozzles 17. Passage of the water from the nozzles causes the arms 14 to rotate about a vertical or nearly vertical axis and this rotation is transmitted to the reel 3 which rotates. Rotation of the reel 3, which is preferably disposed with its axis vertical, causes more of the hose to become coiled on the reel and this in turn causes the vehicle to move along the ground.Type: GrantFiled: January 24, 1992Date of Patent: August 17, 1993Inventor: Richard G. Hayward

Patent number: 4784166Abstract: A hydraulic circuit and a wheeled self-propelled moveable frame provides a one-way feed of water under pressure selectively bearing a liquid soap or a liquid rinse chemical via a wind up hose mounted on a spool via a drive motor to axle to belt to clutch to shaft on the moveable frame through a multi-way directional valve to a water powered drive motor for driving the moveable frame forward and reverse relative to an open end of a vehicle body and said spool. A water cylinder changes the angle of inclination of a floor nozzle tube rotatable about its axis horizontally at the front of the moveable frame and bears a series of longitudinally spaced nozzles, when the machine travel reverses towards the open end of the vehicle body. The multi-way directional valve changes the water flow direction upon impact of a sensor operatively coupled thereto and projecting forwardly of the front of the wheeled self-propelled moveable frame.Type: GrantFiled: November 23, 1987Date of Patent: November 15, 1988Inventors: Douglas R.
