Patent number: 5309612Abstract: A fastening device for detachably fitting protective covers on upholstered foam material, such as seat cushions, seat backs or mattresses, by means of upholstery buttons which can be attached to the fastening device in the manner of snap fasteners. The fastening device consists of a connecting tape (1) on both ends of which are molded attached end pieces (2, 3) which have spherical heads (4) and (5) onto which the upholstery buttons can be pressed. One attached end piece (2) has on the side facing the tape a cylindrical stem (12) and on the stem, at a short distance from the head, is a stop plate (6) for holding the attached end piece (2) against one side of the foam. The other attached end piece has on its side facing the tape, a stem (12) on which is located, at a short distance from its head (5), a smaller support plate (7) whose diameter corresponds approximately to the diameter of the spherical head (5).Type: GrantFiled: June 26, 1992Date of Patent: May 10, 1994Assignee: A. Patent number: 4577373Abstract: A button collet for a tufting button comprises a one piece resilient plastic body having a projecting stem that includes a shank and a hook for receiving a tufting loop. The stem has shoulders on its opposite sides in the region of juncture of the shank and the hook. When tension is applied to the loop the forces tending to open the hook are resisted by counter forces applied against the shoulders by the loop, thereby effectively increasing the tensile strength of the collet.Type: GrantFiled: November 8, 1984Date of Patent: March 25, 1986Assignee: Handy Button Machine CompanyInventor: E. Patent number: 4570306Abstract: A releasable, two-piece upholstery tie for use in the upholstery trade for the fastening of upholstery buttons to finished upholstered items. The locking mechanism of the tie incorporates a self-contained release mechanism protected from inadvertent or accidental release by virtue of the fact that the release mechanism is only accessible through a small aperture in the side of the locking mechanism, through which a pin or other sharp object is inserted for needed release and readjustment.Type: GrantFiled: January 28, 1985Date of Patent: February 18, 1986Inventor: Ronald Eyler

Patent number: 4549331Abstract: A button for receiving and holding a fabric covering which includes a base element having a hollow cylindrical body with a conical outwardly tapering flange extending from one axial end toward the other and a cap member to be outwardly covered by a fabric piece and having a concave interior surface for receiving the cylindrical body and flange and engaging therebetween the edge of the fabric covering, a central cylindrical wall for insertion in the cylindrical body and an annular lip for disposition outwardly of the flange to retain the base element in the cap member. The axial dimension of the interior area of the cap member is greater than the axial dimension of the cylindrical body and flange of the base element for insertion of the base element to varying depths into the cap member. The diametric dimension of the cap member is slightly smaller than the diametric dimension of the flange of the base element for flexure of the flange upon assembly to engage the fabric edge therebetween.Type: GrantFiled: October 12, 1983Date of Patent: October 29, 1985Assignee: Plus One Ltd.Inventor: Charles R. Patent number: 4021889Abstract: A buttoning means is provided having two parts, one of which holds a barbed member able to pierce the item to be buttoned and then to be restrained by the other part, the parts are tethered by a tethering means that was coiled in one or both of the parts prior to buttoning and is uncoiled when buttoning has been effected.Type: GrantFiled: December 4, 1975Date of Patent: May 10, 1977Inventor: Peter David Benmax

Patent number: 4012812Abstract: Tufting button with double series-lock hook entrance to prevent twine loop backing out through the entrance comprising symmetrical down-coming lips at the second lock to define a well for the final resting place of the twine loop and a further downwardly opening mouth opposing the opening formed between the two down-coming lips, the shank of the button hook containing the hook and such locks providing a one-way guiding surface towards the first lock to facilitate rapid installation of the twine loop by avoiding back and forth movement or fishing for the opening, the button hook providing high thickness for strength in the region of the second lock because of its low profile construction and in the case of fabric covered buttons, having a rough surface on the sidewalls to prevent slippage of fabric from the button back.Type: GrantFiled: March 11, 1976Date of Patent: March 22, 1977Assignee: Wade Industries, Inc.Inventor: Stanley D. Patent number: 3938224Abstract: A device for use in the manufacture of buttoned upholstery includes a loop of thread or the like and a bar having a notch which is capable of receiving and nipping a part of the thread of the loop. The bar and thread are passed through an eyelet of an ornamental button and a half-hitch knot is formed. The bar is passed through the article and when turned at right angles to the loop forms an anchorage on the surface of the article opposite the surface receiving the button.Type: GrantFiled: January 16, 1974Date of Patent: February 17, 1976Assignee: Etablissements Delahousse et BruantInventors: Regis J.
