  • Patent number: 5319349
Abstract: Accessory components aid in preventing loss of a pager of the type that emits an audible and/or visual signal in response to radio signals and which has a clip member pivoted to the pager housing for attaching the pager to another article and a clip tensioning spring which acts to pivot the member towards the housing. In the preferred form, one such component positions an auxiliary spring between the housing and clip member to supplement the force of the pager tensioning spring and enables adjustment of the auxiliary spring force to compensate for a weakened tensioning spring. Another component emits a perceptible signal when the clip member is pivoted outward from the housing to detect accidental dislodgment or theft of the pager.

  • Patent number: 4926525
Abstract: A pocket clip stamped from metal strip material, fastened at its one end to the tubular part of a writing instrument and at its other end resiliently biased into contact with the tubular part, has at its fastening end two bent-back, tab-like material sections which reach through an opening into the interior of the tubular part. The tab-like material sections are curved at their free end portions situated inside of the tubular part, in a plane situated at right angles to the longitudinal central axis of the tubular part, with their concave sides facing one another, while their curved end portions engage with bias a locking component that is circular is cross section and is inserted from the open end into the tubular part. In an intermediate area still within the tubular part there is provided an open-ended slot in each of the tab-like material sections, enabling the curved end portions of the tab-like material sections to flex resiliently within the tubular part.

  • Patent number: 4573817
Abstract: A mechanical pencil having a cylindrical barrel (1) and a sheath (2) in axial relationship is disclosed. A spiral member (4) in fixed relationship with the sheath and in axially sliding relationship with the barrel for a predetermined range engages a slider (7). The slider is in fixed relationship with a push feed type writing unit and slides axially within a predetermined range within the barrel (1) as allowed by a guide (3). First spring means is provided to urge the spiral member in a forward direction when the writing unit is positioned axially such that it is contained within the barrel (1). As the writing unit is moved from its rearmost position within the barrel (1) to a protruding position by rotation of the spiral member (4), a second spring means urges the spiral member in a rearward direction, forming a gap between the barrel (1) and the sheath (2).

  • Patent number: 4573818
Abstract: A modular writing instrument cap system is disclosed, in which each individual cap comprises an elongated tubular portion having an open end and a closed end. Near the closed end the cap is internally provided with a seal member adapted to seal with a writing instrument holding quick-drying ink. Near the open end, the tubular portion is internally provided with a catch for removably securing the cap on a writing instrument. Externally on the closed end, the cap is provided with a transversely-oriented open ended tubular barrel. The barrel is configured to receive an internally threaded sleeve, terminator rings and screws which thread towards one another through the rings into the opposite ends of the sleeve in order to hold the assembly together and secure a bail to it. The ends of the barrel and corresponding ends of the terminator rings are cooperatively notched to accommodate the legs of the bail.

  • Patent number: 4551034
Abstract: Various writing instrument parts are assembled to an insert that is inserted into a hollow body of the writing instrument to complete the assembly of parts. The insert has a glide stop and a spaced cartridge guide, and a compression spring pushes against the cartridge guide and a glide removably secured to the inner end of the cartridge. A clip is hinged to the insert by a snap-on socket fitting over a hinge bar. A biasing spring fits within a clip pocket and an insert pocket to prevent unseating the snap-on hinge. The clip pocket is formed by inwardly extending walls that telescope with the insert pocket to prevent twisting off the clip. The insert is held in the hollow body by a locking projection that fits within a hole in the wall of the hollow body member.

  • Patent number: 4516869
Abstract: A writing pen or similar article device has a pocket fastening clip pivoted to a body by means of a connector rigid with and outside the body. A separate leaf spring is connected to the free end of the clip and is connected to the body by means of an opening formed in a device outside of and rigid with the body. The opening is between the pivot of the clip and the free end of the clip so that the clip covers and hides the spring by virtue of a groove in the clip in which the spring is dispersed.
