  • Patent number: 4903377
Abstract: An improved tip assembly including a tongue plate insertable into a buckle is provided for a safety belt system in which a continuous retractable belt length provides both a lap portion and a shoulder portion. The tip assembly through which the belt passes has a snubber slide engaged with the tongue plate and slidable relative thereto. When the belt is drawn across the occupant's body, the belt shifts the snubber slide rearwardly on the tongue plate to a point where the belt is firmly gripped between a surface of the tongue plate and a surface of the snubber slide, whereby that portion of the belt which extends across the occupant's lap cannot expand. When the belt is retracted so that a run of the belt is substantially vertical, the weight of the tip assembly causes its front end to tip downwardly causing the slide to fall vertically along the tongue plate releasing its grip on the belt, whereby the tip assembly freely falls to a lower position along the vertical belt position.

  • Patent number: 4608735
Abstract: A molded sliding bar buckle of the type comprising a strap retainer bar slidably mounted on an open rectangular connector frame having a grip base and a connecting bar on opposite sides of the strap retainer bar. The strap retainer bar includes a central strap engagement portion for retaining therearound one end portion of a strap and having on its back a sloped flat or substantially flat surface facing away from the grip base. The sloped surface has an upper end disposed adjacent to the connecting portion and a lower end disposed adjacent to the grip base, the upper end lying in a plane extending through a center of the thickness of the strap engagement portion. With this construction, when the strap is longitudinally tensioned with its one end portion looped around the strap engagement portion, a tensioning force is transformed substantially into a force or a vector acting in said plane in a direction to tend to move the strap retainer bar linearly toward the grip base.

  • Patent number: 4488336
Abstract: The invention relates to a buckling device of the type having a strap or other connecting means, a male and a female elements, means for retaining said strap and male and female catch means. Said catch means consist of a retaining volume of said female element and a protuberance of said male element. Two abutments of said male elements cooperate with two obstacle means of said female element in such a way that said male and female catch means are preserved from any traction forces applied to the buckling device. The removal of said abutments of said element from said obstacle means of said female element is produced by the crushing of an elastic means of the male element within a holding volume of the female element.

  • Patent number: 4399594
Abstract: A locking mechanism in combination with a buckle connecting the separate straps of a horse blanket. A buckle includes a T-shaped coupling and a curved U-shaped coupling which couple together to form the buckle. The strap lock itself is comprised of a flat rectangular plate which has one end folded back onto itself to form a flange member, a base and a hollow cavity at the bight of the flange. The base contains raised projections which act as stops for preventing the loss of the strap lock. The strap lock is made of a resilient material because as it is being forced into its locking position, the bight of the flange member has to spread apart enough to slide over the curved area of the U-shaped coupling. The edge of the flange member confronts the head of the T-shaped coupling and prevents the T-coupling from sliding forward and twisting and uncoupling the buckle.

  • Patent number: 4319386
Abstract: This invention relates to buckles and more particularly to a strap buckle for either forming a loop in a flexible strap or for securing one strap to another. It is particularly useful for securing and adjusting the cheek strap or connecting the throat strap of a bridle. The invention provides a rigid plate which is permanently secured to a strap. The plate has a stud designed to pass through an opening in the strap to be connected. The plate is also provided with a pair of sleeves through which both straps pass when they are superimposed over each other and connected. One of the sleeves is slidable along the plate and in one position is centered over the stud. The sleeves are rigid to eliminate flexing under loads which tend to pull the straps apart and thus prevent the straps being separated at the stud.

  • Patent number: 3950826
Abstract: A seat belt system is disclosed for mounting relative to the seat assembly of a vehicle which includes one or more harness restraint adjuster devices having retaining means including a pair of cooperating clamping members for engagement with opposite sides of the webbing belt. The clamping members are normally closed on the belt to anchor it in a fixed position, but manual release means allows for disengagement of the clamping members to vary the length of the seat belt system. The belt is free to move within the restraint adjuster in one direction without any need to utilize the release means, and the retaining means automatically reclamps itself against the belt when the adjustment is completed.Guide means including spaced apart fixed bearing surfaces are assembled to side members of the support means and are so located as to limit the forward translation of the clamping members while there is tension in the springs.
