Abstract: A closure device for a thermoplastic bag which includes two opposing, longitudinally extending interlockable male and female fastening strips having respective male and female closure elements or profiles that are deformed to interdigitate and produce an audible clicking sound and or tactile effect that is perceptible to the touch as the closure device is opened and closed. Interdigitation of the two profiles is achieved by cold forming the profiles while interlocked. The shape of the cold form is a stepped deflection of both profiles so that their shapes are generally congruent. The stepped deflections provide a change in the occlusion and peel force of the interlocking closure device thereby resulting in an audible clicking or popping sound as the closure device is opened and closed and a tactile effect that is perceptible to the touch as the closure device is closed.

  • Patent number: 5446949
Abstract: A separable end stop for concealed slide fasteners includes a box which has a guide slot extending in a front wall of the box for receiving and guiding folded portions of two stringers, and a retaining recess formed at an upper open end of the box for receiving therein the whole of a lower end portion of a slider body in such a manner that right and left front wall portions extending on opposite sides of the front wall overlap the corresponding wings of the slider body. Each of the front wall portions has an upper end extension projecting from the open upper end the box to ensure that the wings of the slider body are overlapped with the front wall portions of the box. The box further includes a locking portion formed on an interior surface facing a box-pin insertion hole, and a box pin has first and second locking portions on opposite sidewalls thereof, interlockingly engageable with the locking portion and a partition wall, respectively, to assemble the box and the box pin.

  • Patent number: 5444898
Abstract: A water-resistant closure possessing a layer of waterproof material having an opening is disclosed. Attached within the opening is a slide fastening assembly comprising a pair of stringer tapes of a waterproof fabric. At least one stringer tape is longitudinally folded so as to form an internal flap positioned behind the inside surface of the other stringer tape. The internal flap blocks the entry of water which has passed through gaps present in the slide fastener device. An attaching structure secures the slide fastening assembly in the opening and a sealing tape covers the attaching structure and seals the stringer tape to the waterproof material forming the water-resistant garment closure. An article containing the water-resistant garment closure is also disclosed.

  • Patent number: 5437888
Abstract: A waterproof zip closure is formed by extruding a first thermoplastic material onto its teeth, and applying a transverse force while the first thermoplastic material cures. The transverse force is sufficient to move the teeth in the separating direction, but is less than that which can cause separation. After curing of the thermoplastic material, the tapes and teeth of the zip closure are coated with a second thermoplastic sealing material, while the transverse force is maintained. When the transverse force is removed the sealing material is forced together to provide a waterproof seal. The second thermoplastic sealing material on the tapes further improves the waterproof nature of the zip closure.

  • Patent number: 5386616
Abstract: An improved water resistant slide fastener and method of producing a water resistant zippered seam is disclosed. A thin and flexible water resistant coating is employed on the inside and outside surfaces of the stringer tapes of the slide fastener to eliminate water penetration therethrough. Once the slide fastener is attached to a garment or other article, a water resistant seam sealing tape employing a compatible adhesive is then installed over the attachment means of the stringer tape to protect further against water penetration. The zipper of the present invention is flexible and comfortable to wear, while being fully effective at preventing unwanted water penetration without the need for costly and cumbersome additional barrier layers.

  • Patent number: 5020194
Abstract: A leakproof plastic reclosable fastener or zipper with slider particularly suited for thermoplastic bags. The zipper is formed by reclosable interlocking rib and groove profile elements on respective strips and the strips each include profiled track structure extending along the length thereof parallel to the rib and groove elements. A straddling slider is positioned on the strips for closing or opening the reclosable fastener elements. The slider includes depending side walls for maintaining the track structure and the rib and groove elements therebetween. The slider also includes separator structure inserted between the track structure but not the rib and groove elements to open the rib and groove elements. The zipper structure is slit or notched locally at the end where the slider goes when the zipper is closed, to allow the rib and groove elements to interlock fully making a leakproof closure.

  • Patent number: 4941238
Abstract: The device provides a fastener which somewhat resembles a slide fastener but which can be made at least substantially fluid-resistant. It comprises a first component (1), of flexible and resilient material, having an engagement formation having a longitudinal groove (6) and longitudinally spaced mating formations (10), and a second component (2), of similar material, having a rib (16) and longitudinally spaced mating formations (19). The components can be progressively engaged by the introduction of the rib into the groove and the interengagement of the mating formations. The latter prevent significant relative longitudinal movement between the components. Each component can be made by extrusion of a blank followed by the formation of the mating formations by a rotary die (123). The components can be engaged and disengaged by means of a slide (52) like that used in a conventional slide fastener.
