    Abstract: A spring loaded pin blocks the closed gate's opening path at the location where the gate's opening end engages the carabiner body. The spring serves to normally position the pin so that a portion of the pin protrudes into the opening path of the gate thereby blocking its movement. An open gate pushes the pin aside as it closes. Alternately, the spring can be replaced with a friction member that holds the pin either locked or unlocked when the gate is closed. The gate is unlocked by using a finger to manually push the pin out of the path of the gate end. Although ideally incorporated on wiregate carabiners, the inventive locking mechanism can also be adapted to block the opening end of both straight and bent rigid gate carabiners.

Several different closed configurations are provided, requiring several different and distinct movements to fully open the fastener.

The safety mat securement assembly utilizes a plurality of security hand hold members each having latching means and a safety mat having a plurality of bottom securement members, top and side loop members. The security hand hold members may be used as hand holds on the climbing wall assembly and may have a locking structure. The bottom securement members function to hold the safety mat to the bottom of a climbing wall assembly during both open and closed positions of the safety mat. The mat securement assembly is opened or unlocked by loosening the latching means, removing security mat top loop members from the hand hold, and placing the mats on the floor along the base of the climbing wall. When in closed or locked position, the security mats may contain a printed message communicating that the climbing wall is closed and climbing should not take place.

    Abstract: A coupling device that requires no manual actuation to achieve coupling features a locking bolt movable along a hole extending into a mouth of a hook body to secure a coupling pin therein. A control lever pivotally connected to the locking bolt opposite the mouth end is biased toward a locked position in which motion of the locking bolt is blocked. To engage the coupling pin and the hook mouth, the coupling pin and an operable pin extending through the hollow locking bolt are brought into contact. This causes an end of the operable pin opposite the mouth to push against the control lever to unlock it from the latching position. The coupling pin pushes the locking bolt out of the mouth so that it can pass by further into it, at which point the lever and bolt return to the locked positions to secure the coupling pin inside.

The casing includes an opening at one end leading to a recess within the casing for securing a loop to be restrained by the clasp. The insert is contained within the hollow of the casing and includes two holes which act in conjunction with the pin to allow the insert to move between first and second stop positions within the casing. In one position the leading edge occludes the opening in the casing, thus closing the clasp. In a second position the leading edge of the insert is retracted within the casing, exposing the opening in the casing, thus opening the clasp. The pin is fixed within the casing and rests within one of the two stop positions of the insert.
