The circumferential wall (6) has a substantially cylindrical shape and extends vertically to the reject chute (11). A discharge element (2) is adapted to discharge reject in batches from the reject chute.

    Abstract: The invention concerns a method and an equipment for combining in one single apparatus, the functions for filtering, decontaminating, and thickening paper pulp from used paper, while providing the complementary function of clarifying the filtrates. The apparatus (1) rotates at high speed. The paper pulp is introduced through the center of the apparatus (2) and driven at its angular speed. The pulp is then brought along a grate (6) with small size holes for separating the fibers from the greater part of the water. The thickened pulp is evacuated through extraction nozzles (8). The water is clarified in the clarification zone (12) and recycled or eliminated depending on uses. More complete embodiments of the apparatus include the functions of fractionating, de-inking and purifying the pulp with slots or holes.

    Abstract: A washout container to which are mounted inclined ramps that allow a transit mixer, concrete pumping truck or other concrete handling vehicle to drive up over a portion of the container for dumping excess concrete and washing out waste concrete. The container cross-section may be rectangular to semi-circular, and is preferably fabricated with a steel structure. A watertight latching door assembly is coupled to the container to prevent leakage of collected liquid concrete waste material while allowing solidified concrete materials to be unloaded at a disposal site. The interior of the container is preferably lined with a material to which concrete will not adhere. The liner may be applied as a coating to the interior of the container or as a solid material retained within the container. In this way, solidified waste concrete can be easily removed from the container at the disposal site and preferably crushed for recycling.

    Abstract: A process, and associated apparatus, that separates the economic components of scrapped rubber tires while isolating and removing certain levels of contamination associated with these tires. The separation of the scrap tires contaminants is accomplished by shredding, washing, and rasping the tire product. The continual laboratory testing of the waste wash water and removal of the contaminates and particulates will produce an end-product of 3 to 100 mesh/crumb which will be virtually without contamination. The quality of the end-product is further enhanced by the associated quality apparatus that removes the steel and fiber products in addition to any contaminants.

The dispersion is prepared by forming a dispersion from inorganic oxides having sufficient rigid structure to maintain porosity after milling and drying. After the inorganic oxide is selected, it is milled to have a median particle size of 0.05 to about 3 microns.

    Abstract: A sewage cleaning and comminuting system is provided with a transverse semi-circular concave filtering screen that extends across an influent channel which intercepts all solids too large to pass therethrough. A combined screen cleaning and comminuting grinder unit is mounted in front of the screen in close relationship. It has a concave surface for reciprocating motion therebetween along the full extent of the screen, so as to clean and remove large solids intercepted by the screen surface, and to subsequently comminute such larger solids. As they are recirculated back into incoming flow of sewage, larger solids are ground into smaller solids by the grinder so that they can pass through the screen. A semi-circular screen in combination with a grinder is a preferred embodiment of the system. The system includes a single or multiple drive means whereby the comminuting grinder is actuated and provided with the reciprocating motion along the surface of the screen.

The process for cleaning plastics to recycle them according to the present invention includes the following steps. (1) A first cleaning is carried out on roughly crushed plastics of a size of 2-3 cm by using a solvent within a dumbler. (2) The solvent is discharged out of the dumbler after the first cleaning. (3) A second cleaning is carried out on the plastics by using a solvent within the dumbler after the first cleaning. (4) The solvent is discharged out of the dumbler after the second cleaning. (5) The plastics are dried after the second cleaning by injecting a heated nitrogen gas into the dumbler. (6) The nitrogen gas is discharged out of the dumbler under a reduced pressure, whereby contamination materials adhered on surfaces and internally intruded are cleaned.

One process utilizes a pretreatment step with dilute sulfuric acid to reduce the heavy metal content of the cellulosic component of the municipal solid waste which can inhibit the fermentation of the sugars obtained from such waste. In another, the heavy metal content of the cellulosic component of municipal solid waste is removed via an ionic exchange process, after hydrolysis with sulfuric acid. A process for an economical, energy efficient production of ethanol from municipal solid waste is also disclosed.
