Abstract: The invention relates to a method and a grinding plant for reduction of brittle material for grinding, in which material which has undergone primary reduction from a first grinding stage is delivered as fresh material to the second mill of a second grinding stage and finished product is removed from this second grinding stage, and in which the quantity of feed material of this second mill is kept constant when the quantity of finished product alters by altering the quantity of fresh material. This first grinding stage contains an air separator from which the fines are fed as fresh material to the second mill. In the event of alteration in the quantity of fresh material for the second grinding stage the quantity is kept constant by corresponding alteration of the fineness of separation of the separator of the first grinding stage.

  • Patent number: 5096571
Abstract: A process for recovering elemental sulfur from volcanic and non-volcanic ores is disclosed. Ore is processed by crushing the ore to a coarse particle size autoclaving to separate the sulfur from the ore, mild grinding to selectively reduce the size of the liberated sulfur particles, flotation and sulfur separation/filtration steps to produce a sulfur of at least 99% purity. The process recovers at least 90% of the elemental sulfur contained in the ore. The particular crushing of the ore and selective grinding techniques for reducing sulfur particles for reducing sulfur particles size are important factors in the efficiency of the process since the grinding techniques inhibit the formation of fine gangue which is difficult to separate from the liberated sulfur.

  • Patent number: 5082188
Abstract: Apparatus is disclosed for reducing the particle size of various materials (e.g., grains, forage materials, fibrous materials, bulk materials, disposed materials, etc.). The apparatus includes a housing including a circular interior wall, a rotor member which is rotatably mounted in the housing, a plurality of blades or hammers attached at one end to the periphery of the rotor, drive means for driving the rotor within the housing, and feed means for feeding the material to the rotor in substantially full face feed. An annular channel or chamber is defined between the rotor and the interior wall of the housing. The blade members extend into the channel or chamber. After the material has been reduced in particle size by the blades or hammers it passes into a cavity adjacent to the annular channel or chamber and the rotor. The cavity includes an unrestricted discharge opening for exit of the processed material.

  • Patent number: 5060870
Abstract: The invention comprises a method and apparatus for recycling foamed polystyrene from municipal solid waste and more particularly, from fast food restaurant waste. A steady stream of waste is delivered to a flail mill for reducing particle size, a rotary trommel for eliminating undersized waste and a rotary air classifier for removing "heavy" waste from the stream. At this point, the waste stream comprises mostly paper and foamed polystyrene. The paper and foamed polystyrene are delivered to a water pulper which fiberizes the paper so that it can then be separated from the foamed polystyrene by passing it through a screen of selected mesh size to allow the water and paper pulp to pass through while retaining the foamed polystyrene.
