Abstract: A drum assembly and a method of laying a line (L) onto a drum (D) uses an oscillator device to apply vibrations to the line as it is being wound onto the drum. The oscillator device (17) sequentially increases and decreases the load on the rope as it is being wound onto the drum, causing differential fluctuations in the tension of the line as the line is diverted away in opposite directions from a straight line path to the drum. The vibrations typically cause a rapidly alternating load on the line, which is additional to any load applied to the line during laying of the line onto the drum. This alternating load typically reduces the available stretch in the line, and therefore assists in compaction of the line on the drum.

  • Patent number: 8453957
Abstract: A yarn package halter comprises a frame for supporting a series of contact members that are used to maintain slight contact with the base or back portion of a yarn package during an unwinding operation as part of a textile manufacturing process. In a preferred embodiment, the contact members are elastic cords, which serve to hold the yarn package together in order to prevent the yarn package from unraveling, which can lead to entanglements and other processing problems. The frame member is structured so that the contact members form a cone shape or a partial cone shape, and this arrangement allows the contact members to maintain slight contact throughout the manufacturing process, even as the size of the yarn package is reduced during the unwinding operation.

Abstract: The present invention concerns to a device for gripping and adjusting the tension in an elongated component. The device is characterised in that front tightening assembly (101) is mobile relative to rear body (10) and includes means (9) for joining to jaws (3), these means remaining active after said jaws (3) have gripped the component so that the movement of said jaws (3) results in movement of said joined assembly (101) which then applies forward traction on elongated component (E). Applications found in the handling of elongated objects such as cables, ropes or similar parts.

  • Patent number: 7410111
Abstract: A payoff ring constructed from high density polyethylene includes a beveled inner circumference that guides ductile wire, such as aluminum welding wire, from a coil packaged in a box-like container. The body of the payoff ring is fashioned with holes or cavities that significantly reduce the weight of the payoff ring by up to 50% of the overall weight. The payoff ring floats freely in the box-like container and guides the wire as it is being withdrawn from the container while not distorting the wire. The outer configuration of the payoff ring is constructed to engage to the sides of the container thereby preventing the payoff from rotating during use.

  • Patent number: 7017849
Abstract: An idler roll brake in a paper handing machine employs an electromagnet positioned close to the periphery all of the idler roll which interacts with and induces eddy currents a conducive roll and a gear shaped steel ring fitted within the conducive roll. The electromagnet is arranged transverse to the axis of the roll and has three poles. The gear-shaped steel ring forms opposite poles which are attracted to the poles of the electromagnet which bring the roll to complete stop. An alternative embodiment roll brake employs a brake shoe mounted to the roll end bearing. The brake shoe slides forward to bring the brake shoe against the interior surface of the roll. An electromagnet positioned beneath the roll attracts a ferromagnetic armature or permanent magnet mounted to the brake to pull the brake shoe into engagement with the inner surface of the roll.
