Patent number: 9439409Abstract: A fishing reel housing for attachment to a rod along a longitudinal rod axis. The housing has a shaft for accepting a central bore of a line dispensing spool and an adjustment mechanism for selectively adjusting the shaft in position transversely away from the rod axis while maintaining its position along the rod axis. The fishing reel housing includes an adjustable line retainer assembly which moves a line retainer radially outwardly from the shaft as the adjustment mechanism is selectively adjusted. A fishing reel comprises the adjustable line retainer and reel housing with a spool with a central bore mounted thereon.Type: GrantFiled: October 31, 2013Date of Patent: September 13, 2016Assignee: 106941 AB LTD.Inventors: Stephen Maerz, Michael Thomas Sutherland, Lawrence Ralph Thomas, Watcharin Suttipisetchart

Patent number: 9210920Abstract: A fishing reel designed to minimize line snag and simplify clicker operation. A frame mounted spool includes a forward flange defining a circumferential groove for receiving a smooth surfaced ring that is loosely mounted therein for minimizing line interaction. A spinner head assembly has pin arms that are pivotally secured to a rearward face. The pin arms present a substantially smooth rear surface for minimizing line snags. Pin springs are mounted on the opposite face of spinner head member and communicate with the pin arms via pin arm posts that extend through openings. An enclosure is affixed to the forward face of the spinner head for permitting the pin springs to have freedom of movement, but for enclosing pin springs and posts to prevent interaction with fishing line. A dual clicker passes through the frame for engaging the spool and the drag adjusting wheel.Type: GrantFiled: July 3, 2013Date of Patent: December 15, 2015Assignee: W.C. BRADLEY/ZEBCO HOLDINGS, INC.Inventors: Kent L. Zwayer, M. Scott Smith

Patent number: 6375107Abstract: A spincast fishing reel has a reel frame to which front and rear covers are attached. The rear cover includes a pivotable thumb button which is depressed by a user when fishing line is to be cast. The front cover closes the face of the reel, but defines a forward opening through which the fishing line extends. A normally nonrotatable line spool is located inside of the front cover on a mounting hub of the reel frame. Fishing line is wound onto the line spool by a rotatable pickup head located forward of the line spool. An annular shroud element at least partially covers the outer circumferential surface of the pickup head when fishing line is being wound. As a result, the fishing line will travel between the pickup head and the inside surface of the shroud element to facilitate engagement thereof by the pickup head.Type: GrantFiled: April 21, 2000Date of Patent: April 23, 2002Assignee: Shakespeare CompanyInventor: Kwok Yin Wong

Patent number: 6032892Abstract: A fishing reel eliminates line twist as the fishing line is taken on or off of the spool by utilizing a non-rotating nose member and line pick-up member in combination with a rotational spool and a line-engaging control mechanism which at the beginning of the cast retracts the nose member against a forward end of the housing to capture the fishing line therebetween and, toward the end of the cast, a separate release mechanism manually releases the nose member to permit the fishing line to play freely off of the spool. The release mechanism may be a manual or automatic casting control mechanism which is mounted just forwardly of the handle portion of a fishing rod and is operable to return the nose member to an open position in response to a forward casting motion of the rod and reel.Type: GrantFiled: December 30, 1997Date of Patent: March 7, 2000Inventor: Frank E. Epperson

Patent number: 5788172Abstract: Fishing reel improvements release and reengage fishing line on a reel with braking in a manner permitting greater casting speed and precision and better control of the line fishing. Thus, by pressing a first manual line feeding lever, line may be freely dispensed at a speed controlled by a second manual braking lever.Type: GrantFiled: December 18, 1995Date of Patent: August 4, 1998Inventors: Claudio Rosa, Gerardo Petruzzelli

Patent number: 5323986Abstract: An operating member (15) for regulating the grip on a fishing line (20) in a cover type fishing reel uses translational motion which is transformed to generally transverse translational movement by a facing mechanism (16, 17) Consequently, a reasonable and natural thumb motion is used to regulate the grip on the fishing line (20) and at the same time, a fisherman is able to maintain a comfortable and proper hold on a fishing rod (30) upon which the cover type fishing reel is mounted.Type: GrantFiled: April 7, 1992Date of Patent: June 28, 1994Assignee: Daiwa Seiko, Inc.Inventor: Shinji Takeuchi
