Abstract: A brake mechanism is provided for braking rotation of a rotary member in a spinning reel or a baitcasting reel. The brake mechanism includes a frame unit, an actuating member, a biasing member, a plurality of actuated members, and a plurality of brake pieces. The actuating member is biased by the biasing member to an outer position. In response to movement of the actuating member to an Inner position from the outer position, the actuated members are moved radially and outwardly to permit the brake pieces to be brought into frictional engagement with the rotary member to thereby brake the rotation of the rotary member.
Abstract: A handle knob for a fishing reel is mounted on a knob shaft to be rotatable about an axis of the knob shaft, and is fixed to an operation body rotatably combined with a reel body. The handle knob includes an inner knob, an outer knob integrally formed therewith, and bearings having an inner ring fitted to the outer surface of the knob shaft and an outer ring fitted to the inner surface of the inner knob, and that rotatably support the inner knob on the knob shaft about the axis. The inner knob includes a bearing surface with which the outer ring contacts, and the bearing surface including a through-hole having an opening in the bearing surface while penetrating the inner knob in a radial direction and through which an insertion portion of the outer knob is inserted.
Abstract: A spinning reel includes a rotation transmission mechanism that transmits a rotation of a handle to a rotor. The rotation transmission mechanism includes a drive shaft and a drive gear. The drive shaft is mounted to the reel unit so as to be rotatable about an axis arranged skew to the spool shaft. The drive gear is mounted to the drive shaft so as to be unitarily rotatable therewith. The spinning reel includes a rotation control mechanism mounted between the handle and the drive shaft. The rotation control mechanism transmits the rotation of the handle to the drive shaft only when the handle is rotated in a direction corresponding to the fishing-line winding direction. The rotation control mechanism includes a handle brake that applies a braking force to the rotation of the handle when the handle is rotated in a reverse direction relative to the direction.
Abstract: A fishing reel (100) comprises a crank (110), a spool (120) connected to said crank (110), a pull-off brake mechanism (230,230,400,400,400) and a chassis (130). The pull-off brake mechanism (230,230,400,400,400) 5 and the crank (110) are interconnected such that a pretension of the pull-off brake mechanism (230,230,400,400,400) increases as the crank (110) is moved in a reeling-in direction. Moreover, the pretension of the pull-off pull-off brake mechanism (230,230,400,400,400)10 also increases as the crank (110) is moved in a direction opposite to the reeling-in direction.
Abstract: A fly fishing reel includes a casing, a spool mounted rotatably in the casing, a handle connected to the spool via a connecting rod, an arcuate plate attached to the casing and formed with a plurality of angularly spaced apart retaining-holes, a drag adjustment lever having one end pivoted to the connecting rod, a positioning unit pivoted to the other end of the lever and having a retaining pin selectively and releasably engaging one of the retaining-holes so as to position the lever, and a releasing unit for disengaging the retaining pin from the selected one of the retaining-holes.
Abstract: A fly-fishing reel has a line spool (18) rotatable about a shaft (6), and a handle (26) for rotating the line spool (18) for winding a line thereon. An inner sleeve (9) is freely rotatable about the shaft (6) in the winding direction but non-rotatably connected to the shaft in the other direction, i.e. the unwinding direction. The inner sleeve (9) has a first drag washer (11) provided at one end thereof, and an outwardly threaded portion (9b) provided at the other end thereof. An outer sleeve (13), which constitutes a hub non-rotatably connected to the line spool (18) and supports a second drag washer (14), is freely rotatable about the inner sleeve (9) in both directions. The two drag washers (11, 14) are arranged to cooperate in order to brake the line spool (18) when rotated in the unwinding direction .
Abstract: A process for producing tapered windings of glass threads consists, downstream from a drawing device of glass filaments joined into a thread, in making the thread pass to the end of the arm of a dancing roller, then winding it on a support attached by one of its ends to a rotationally driven spindle. The thread is distributed on said support with the help of a thread guide reciprocated in parallel to the axis of said support, so as to obtain a winding tapered over at least part of its height.

Abstract: An open-faced spin-casting reel utilizes a weighted member which in response to a casting motion will automatically release the line from the spool, and drag control mechanism is incorporated directly into the reeling mechanism off of the crankshaft to control the amount of drag on the line as it is reeled onto the spool.
