  • Patent number: 8899506
Abstract: A dual-bearing reel drag regulation mechanism includes a drag regulation lever including an attachment potion configured to pivot about a rotation axis of the spool between a free position and a maximum position, an operating portion extending from the attachment portion to a tip of the drag regulation lever, and an intermediate positioning mechanism including a positioning member. The positioning member is retractably attached to the lateral surface of the reel unit at an intermediate position between the free position and the maximum position. The positioning member is arranged to be in a protruding state or a retracting state. The intermediate positioning mechanism is configured to cause the positioning member to make contact at the intermediate position with a contact portion of the operating portion in pivoting the drag regulation lever, when the positioning member is in the protruding state.

  • Patent number: 7850110
Abstract: The drag adjusting device is provided with a pin member 70 arranged on a plate-like member 80 of a reel unit 1 such that it can be attached to and detached and such that its position can be changed. The pin member 70 serves to remember a prescribed pivot position of a drag mechanism operating member 2. When an angler finds an optimum drag lever position, the angler installs the pin member 70 in a mounting recess 81 corresponding to the optimum drag lever position. In this way, the angler can easily set the drag mechanism operating member 2 to the optimum drag lever position without having to remember the drag lever position.

  • Patent number: 7694907
Abstract: A large arbor anti-reverse fly fishing reel provides by its handle a convenient variable drug control up to a present drag force. The drag knob is preferably designed as a four-vane propeller knob being arranged within a handle depression extending inside the spool. By means of a bayonet coupling, which also serves as a variable drag control device, the handle can be securely attached to the reel thereby locking the spool. The spool can be provided with omega-like perforations for a maximum stability, lightness and ventilation, said ventilation being optionally enhanced by an air turbine formed by said perforation and a portion of the frame and/or a portion of the handle extending inside the spool.

  • Patent number: 7429011
Abstract: A fishing reel with improved transmission efficiency is disclosed to include a shaft mounted in a casing, a spool sleeved onto the shaft, a brake pad mounted at one side of the spool, two disks mounted at two sides of the brake pad and rotatable by an external force, and a support set provided between the spool and the shaft. Thus, when the shaft is moved axially to a predetermined position, the shaft exerts a pressure to one disk and the spool via the support set, causing the brake pad to be clamped by the two disks. Therefore, the fishing reel is provided with excellent power transmission efficiency and strong spool braking force.

  • Patent number: 6964388
Abstract: A fishing reel includes a spool disk, a handle disk mounted coaxially and in juxtaposition with the spool disk, a winding handle or crank affixed to the handle disk, and a brake mechanism, including an actuator incorporated in the handle, for applying a drag braking torque between the spool disk and the handle disk. The braking torque is controllable by a user by squeezing the handle while holding the handle for cranking. Accordingly, the user does not have to let go of the winding handle in order to apply or vary the drag.

  • Patent number: 6964389
Abstract: A fishing reel includes an adjustable dynamic drag mechanism and a static drag mechanism connected to a brake mechanism. The static drag mechanism allows a user to select a predetermined amount of static drag whereas the manually adjustable dynamic drag mechanism allows the user to instantly add more drag. The fishing reel also allows a user to set a maximum total drag (i.e., the combination of the static and the maximum dynamic drag) such that the user cannot accidentally add too much dynamic drag that could result in the total drag exceeding the strength of the fishing line. The fishing reel preferably includes an adjustable leverage mechanism that allows the user to select the desired amount of mechanical advantage. In the preferred embodiment, the brake mechanism includes a ratchet plate, a yoke, and a friction ring disposed between the plate and the yoke.

  • Patent number: 6152390
Abstract: A preset cartridge system is disclosed wherein the drag knob moves Belleville washers within a separate cartridge located in the reel. The cartridge is acted upon by a drag lever. • Patent number: 5863007
Abstract: A spinning reel of the rotor drag type, with which the rotor can be braked during line play-out, is equipped with a power transmission mechanism. The power transmission mechanism has a pinion gear that is rotatably supported by the reel body in only the line winding direction, and that rotates together with the handle. A clutch mechanism is provided between the pinion gear and the rotor and engages and disengages them. An operating mechanism is used to operate the clutch mechanism for engaging and disengaging. A level winding mechanism moves the spool in the longitudinal direction according to the rotation of the rotor. The power transmission mechanism rotates the rotor and moves the spool in the longitudinal direction together with the rotation of the handle.
