  • Patent number: 6575392
Abstract: A fly fishing reel includes a casing having two opposite ends and a peripheral wall extending between and cooperating with the opposite ends to confine an inner space thereamong. A spool is mounted rotatably in the casing and has two opposite flange portions with free ends that are radially and respectively spaced apart from the peripheral wall by first and second gaps. The flange portions divide the inner space into two opposite end chambers and an intermediate chamber which is in fluid communication with the opening and the end chambers via the first and second gaps. A pair of elastic sealing rings are respectively interposed between the free ends of the flange portions and the peripheral wall so as to seal the first and second gaps for preventing dust and liquid from entering into the end chambers via the opening and the intermediate chamber from the exterior of the casing.

Abstract: A spool has drag mechanism disposed on the rear, spool body, cover member, first sealing member, and second sealing member. The spool body has tubular bobbin trunk portion, and front/rear flange portions provided on the front/rear of the bobbin trunk portion. The drag mechanism includes: drag-handling unit that screws onto the fore end of the spool shaft; and friction unit disposed so as to contact the rear face of the rear flange. The rearward movement of the first friction unit is restricted by spool shaft. Cover member is installed on spool body to cover first friction unit from rear. First sealing member is fitted in between cover member and rear flange portion. Second sealing member is fitted in between spool shaft and cover member. Spool can control fluctuations in drag force due to liquids that seep into drag mechanism.

  • Patent number: 6457662
Abstract: A spinning reel rotor drive device that keeps thrust force from acting upon the one-way clutch. The rotor drive device 5 for a spinning reel drives a rotor in the reeling direction according to the rotation of a handle rotatably supported on a reel unit, and prevents the rotor from reversing in the line winding-out direction, said apparatus comprising a face gear 11, a pinion gear 12, a bearing 16, a restriction member 17, and a rotation check mechanism 13. The bearing is fitted in a state of restricted movement to the rear thereof on the barrel 14 of the reel unit in order to rotatably support the pinion gear on the reel unit. The restriction member is fixed to the reel unit in order to restrict the forward movement of the bearing. The rotation check mechanism has a roller-type one-way clutch provided ahead of the restriction member, and prevents the rotor from reversing in the line winding-out direction.

Abstract: Nut that screws together with pinion gear, and bearing that is arranged on the inner circumferential side of the nut, are provided on the front of a spinning-reel rotor. Pressing member is mounted on the front faces of the nut and bearing, such that it abuts on outer race of bearing. Pressing member is installed so as to be rotatable with respect to spool shaft, which is a rod element. Pressing member is water-repellency treated over all its surfaces, including the face that forms a clearance with spool shaft. The present invention prevents invasion of water droplets into rotatory-component clearances in a water-sealing component assembly composed of a relatively rotatable plurality of components, while sustaining rotational efficiency of the rotatory components.

Abstract: Sealing structure has a friction disk having a spindle-form boss portion, a cover member, and a seal member, in a lever-drag type dual-bearing reel. Cover member has a through-hole situated encompassing the boss portion, and is a component that is rotatable relative to friction disk. The seal member, which is a component made of an elastic substance, is for sealing a clearance between the boss portion and the cover member, and has an cylindrical portion made of an elastic substance and mountable on the boss portion, and a sealing portion formed integrally on the outer circumferential surface of the cylindrical portion and tapering toward the through-hole. A distal edge of the sealing portion is for contacting a contact surface in through-hole. The present invention provides a structure for sealing a spindle-form first member and, disposed about the outer periphery thereof, a second member, to seal while controlling impairment in rotational performance, without having to use components or space for fastening.

  • Patent number: 6412720
Abstract: A double-drag type lever-drag mechanism for a double-bearing trolling reel. The drag mechanism is configured to improve overall reel braking and drag performance by securing the brake release state reliably and by a design that curbs increase in spool inertia and provides for ease of operation and precision in attaching the drag cover. The lever drag mechanism 7 brakes the spool 3 rotation in the line spool-out direction, and is equipped with a brake disk 25 non-rotatably fitted to one end of the spool such to be axially shiftable a predetermined distance. Sandwiching the brake disk 25 between friction disk 26, immobilized against axially outward movement, and axially shiftable friction disk 27 rotates the drag/brake disks 25-27 unitarily with the spool 3. Against the spool 3 a coil spring 28 urges the brake disk 25 away from the spool 3. A shifting mechanism 29 reciprocates the spool 3 and drag/brake disks 25-27 axially.
