Abstract: When end lock has occurred in a seat belt retractor due to winding-up of a webbing, the end lock is easily and surely released. A stop part (6G) engages with a lock arm (40) displaced in a locking operation direction and stops the lock arm (40). A lock mechanism (9), in a state where the lock arm (40) stands still on the stop part (6G), starts operation with rotation in a pull-out direction (P) of a winding drum and stops rotation of the winding drum. A transmission mechanism (19) transmits rotation of the winding drum to the lock arm (40) and displaces the lock arm (40) in a release direction to release the engagement with the stop part (6G) is released between the time when operation of the lock mechanism (9) is started and the time when rotation of the winding drum is stopped. Abstract: In a webbing take-up device, due to actuation of a pre-tensioning mechanism when a vehicle collision, a piston is moved, rack teeth of the piston mesh with pinion teeth of a pinion, causing the pinion rotate and a spool to be rotated in the take-up direction. In a state where a large rotational force in the pull-out direction is acting from an occupant on the pinion, through a webbing and the spool, a rack tooth is broken by a pinion tooth when the rack teeth initially mesh with the pinion teeth, especially by a tip end of the rack tooth meshing with the pinion tooth. Therefore, sticking-in of the pinion teeth rack teeth and the pinion teeth can be suppressed, or easily eliminated, enabling loss in force transmitted from the piston to the pinion to be reduced.

Abstract: A seatbelt retractor includes an acceleration sensor. The acceleration sensor includes a sensor case having a supporting surface which is maintained horizontal. A self-standing inertia body whose bottom surface is placed on the supporting surface is installed inside the sensor case in a self-standing condition, and which tilts when a horizontal acceleration is exerted. An actuating member which, in accordance with a tilting movement of the self-standing inertia body, activates a lock mechanism to lock the extraction of the seat belt. An outer contour of a contact area where the supporting surface of the sensor case and the bottom surface of the self-standing inertia body are in surface contact is configured such that a distance from a center axis of the self-standing inertia body to the outer contour differ, in a horizontal plane, in a first direction and in a second direction orthogonal to the first direction.

Abstract: In a preferred embodiment, a restraint system is described for restraining a standing occupant in a vehicle such as a plane or helicopter. The restraint system includes a webbing strap that winds and unwinds from a spool assembly. The spool assembly includes a trigger assembly that locks a spool from rotation, a manual release assembly for manually releasing the trigger assembly and lock, and an adjustable payout assembly that determines the maximum length that the webbing strap can be pulled out before stopping (i.e., the number of rotations of the spool). The trigger assembly can trigger the lock assembly from one or more sensors. Further, the trigger assembly can be arranged to automatically unlock after a triggering event, manually unlocked after a triggering event or a combination of the two for different sensors.

The seat-belt retractor comprises a locking system that is controlled by means of at least one vehicle-sensitive sensor. The sensor has an alignment mass for autonomous alignment and is configured to pivot on the seat-belt retractor when the angular installation position of the seat-belt retractor is changed and when the seat-belt is extended, the sensor can be fixed in position by a blocking device. Abstract: A vehicle sensitive retractor control system having reduced sensitivity to Z-axis acceleration experienced during normal driving. The retractor control system incorporates a rolling mass and a locking lever which, in a resting position, are arranged such that the locking lever does not engage a ratchet wheel of a seat belt retractor spool. In response to accelerations in the horizontal plane, the rolling ball mass becomes unseated from its resting position and engages the locking lever, causing it to pivot and lock the retractor. In response to Z-axis acceleration, the rolling mass is prevented from contacting the locking lever by a mass restrictor. A soft damping spring is also provided to bias the locking lever against a lever rest. The spring is sized to overcome the inertia of the locking lever and prevent it from “bouncing up” and engaging the ratchet wheel in response to Z-axis accelerations.

Abstract: A webbing holding device is proposed, which prevents or controls abrupt reduction in take-up speed when taking-up of webbing is completed. In the webbing holding device, when the webbing is released from being fitted over an occupant, the webbing is wound to a retractor by biasing force. Here, immediately before taking-up of the webbing is completed, a guide strap is stretched by movement of a leading end portion of the webbing toward the back side of a vehicle, and thus the guide strap applies biasing force to the leading end portion of the webbing, so that the take-up speed of the webbing is reduced. Therefore, when winding of the webbing is finished, take-up speed of the webbing being abruptly reduced may be prevented or controlled, and therefore extraction of the webbing from the retractor being locked by a lock mechanism of the retractor may be prevented or controlled.
