  • Patent number: 8079539
Abstract: A built-in module for an inverter and having tension control with integrated tension and velocity closed loops, where required tension feedbacks can be obtained by internal calculations of the inverter or feedback signals of a tension sensor. The tension control module is applied to provide a tension control for a winding mechanism which is operated by driving at least one motor. The tension control module firstly builds a tension control to provide a balanced tension to the winding mechanism. Afterward, the tension control module builds a velocity control to provide an accelerated or decelerated adjustment for the winding mechanism. Accordingly, the winding mechanism can stably maintain a tension-balanced operation.

  • Patent number: 7780111
Abstract: A roll storage module comprises a storage roll (4) and a band roll (1). A band (3) extends between the storage and band rolls, the rolls being rotatable so that the band can be rolled around and unrolled from each roll. A storage roll motor (5) applies a rotational torque directly to the storage roll (4), a band roll motor (2) applies a rotational torque directly to the band roll (1). A control system (6) controls the motors (2,5) so as to cause the band (3) to roll on and unroll from the storage and band rolls (1,4) respectively in a determined manner. The control system includes a processor (6) for monitoring rotation of the band roll (1), and for calculating one or more parameters relating to the band (3) based on the monitored band roll rotation thereby to control the band and storage roll motors to rotate their respective rolls in the determined manner.

  • Patent number: 6409117
Abstract: The present invention includes systems and methods for monitoring the spooling area of a rotatable reel for winding or unwinding an elongated material, for example, a cable. The monitoring system has a detector for sensing the presence and position of a cable surface or object or operator positioned between the detector and the reel. The detector can control rotation of the reel directly, or send a position signal to a computer where the position signal indicates the detected presence and/or position. The computer can have a memory and/or a processor for respectively storing and analyzing the position signal. The computer is operative to compare the position signal to previously received position signals to determine a condition, for example, the amount of cable on the reel, the presence of any object, and/or the existence of a safety-threatening condition. The computer can generate an output signal for use in, for example, controlling the reel speed and/or torque, or the application of brakes.
