  • Patent number: 9278317
Abstract: A module of hollow fiber membranes is re-configured to break up and rearrange a skein into multiple miniskeins each having no more than 250 fibers, all lower miniheaders of the miniskeins being slidably held for vertical movement in vertical slots in an aerator box. Upon shrinkage of the fibers, the lower miniheaders rise in the box. Each miniskein has from 2-12 planar ordered arrays in which the fibers are adhesively secured, preferably without potting the lower miniheaders. The lower ends of the fibers are dead-ended and lower miniheaders are positioned sequentially, transverse to the longitudinal axes of the upper header and the aerator box; its upper miniheader is potted in a choice of configurations.

  • Patent number: 9027869
Abstract: A filament winding apparatus prevents a fiber bundle supplied to a liner from interfering with other fiber bundles and fiber supplying guides. First and second guide units include a plurality of fiber supplying guides arranged radially and extending and contracting in a direction approximately perpendicular to a liner central axis. When a fiber bundle supplied from a first supplying guide of the first guide unit crosses between a second supplying guide of the second guide unit and the liner, the distance from the second supplying guide to the liner central axis is made larger than the distance from the first supplying guide to the liner central axis, and in the reverse case, the distance from the first supplying guide to the liner central axis is made larger than the distance from the second supplying guide to the liner central axis.

  • Patent number: 8424793
Abstract: Disclosed is a filament winding device wherein an FRP layer is prevented from becoming thick by avoiding piled fibers in the case of the feeding of multiple filaments when a plurality of fibers are fed simultaneously. For realizing this theme, a filament winding device moves a fiber guide member equipped with a plurality of fiber feeding ports relatively in an axial direction of a wound member rotating relatively about the axis, and feeds fibers through the fiber feeding ports to wind the fibers around the wound member, wherein the fiber feeding ports are provided only in part of the fiber guide member. Abstract: A continuous thermoplastic wire is heated and fed into a coil forming apparatus having a rotative drum holding an injection nozzle so that it registers with and be linked in a common rotative movement to a threaded mandrel also supported by the drum. The wire discharged by the nozzle slidably engages the threads of the mandrel into a helical pattern, the mandrel being radially and coaxially surrounded by a cooled sleeve. The wire will thus solidify along the helical thread of the mandrel, to form a continuous plastic coil being discharged at the downstream extremity of the mandrel and sleeve assembly. Due to the fact that the drum, mandrel and nozzle all rotate in a common rotative movement, it is possible to select the direction and speed of rotation of the three last-mentioned elements so that the coil being discharged have an ouput discharge translational speed, while being exempt of any absolute rotational movement about its longitudinal axis.

  • Patent number: 5649353
Abstract: A method for making an electrical coil such as a superconductive switch or an energy dump resistor. The midportion of a coil wire, whose ends are wound around two supply spools, is looped around a radially-extending pin on a shaft. The shaft is turned in one direction and the coil wire is guided such that segments are paid out from the first supply spool and sections are paid out from the second supply spool, such segments and sections being wound from the middle to a corresponding end, then being wound from the corresponding end to the middle where they are crossed over, and then being wound from the middle to the other associated end. A stratum of electrical insulation is positioned, at the appropriate time, on the second segment and second section, and, in the case of the switch, an electrical heater is positioned, at the appropriate time, on the first segment and first section.

  • Patent number: 5628473
Abstract: An apparatus (28) facilitates application of one or more strands (24) onto a mandrel (20) which is mounted for rotation. The apparatus (28) includes a frame structure (30) which supports a confining device (46) and a receptacle (48) for receiving opposite ends of the mandrel (20) in a non-gripping manner. The frame structure (30) further supports a guide frame (80) which is positioned for movement along and parallel to the mounted mandrel (20) and which guides the strands (24) onto the rotating mandrel. A pair of strands (24) may be applied to opposite sides of the mandrel (20) to balance pulling forces which result in the mandrel due to tension on the strands. Ends (143) and (145) of a pin (142) extend laterally of the mandrel axis at one end of the mandrel (20) and are insertible into slots (126), (128), (134) and (136) formed in a coupler (116) of the confining device (46) to facilitate mounting of the mandrel with the confining device.

  • Patent number: 5584438
Abstract: A process and a device for performing the process are each provided, where the process produces a transformer winding from angularly profiled wires, where the angularly profiled wires are wound by guiding the same into a twist head and arranging such unwound profiled wires into two adjacently located conductor stacks, upper and lower conductors from the respective stacks being interchanged to the other stack through an offset. A twisted conductor is formed and is wound on a support cylinder in order to conform the twisted conductor to a transformer winding which is to be placed on the core of the transformer. While winding the twisted conductor onto the support cylinder, the position of the same is continuously detected, and an output signal indicating the position is outputted to a comparing mechanism for comparing the actual detected position to a preset value. In addition, the diameter of the resulting winding is scanned, and based upon the winding diameter, the twist head is controlled accordingly.
