  • Patent number: 10597185
Abstract: Mattresses are packaged by successively rolling two compressed mattresses into a roll in which a rolling wrapper forms a spiral when viewed from an end of the roll. The bottom surface of a first mattress is placed on the wrapper such that the wrapper wraps around a first end of the mattress. The first end is then inserted between the bars of a mechanical roller. The first end is bent over onto the top surface of the mattress, and the mattress is rolled. The bottom surface of a second mattress is placed on the wrapper, and the first mattress is further rolled until successive portions of the bottom surface of the first mattress become adjacent to successive portions of the top surface of the second mattress. The wrapper is cut, and a first location near the cut edge is taped to a second location one revolution earlier on the wrapper.

  • Patent number: 6196492
Abstract: Roll winder and process for operating the same. The roll winder includes a roll retainer adapted to hold a wound roll in the region of a wound roll pivot axis, and a support apparatus that includes a plurality of roll bodies having axes extending substantially parallel to the pivot axis of the wound roll. The plurality of roll bodies are formed into a plurality of roll pairs, and the roll pairs are pivotably mounted for movement around a shaft extending substantially parallel to the pivot axis of the wound roll. The process includes positioning one of the roll pairs against a winding tube, pressing the winding tube against a central roll with the one roll pair, guiding a web onto the winding tube and rotating the winding tube to form a wound roll, and pivoting the one roll pair so that all of the plurality of roll pairs are positioned beneath the wound roll.

  • Patent number: 6182919
Abstract: In winding machine for winding running webs of material, for instance paper webs or plastic foil, contact roller systems are known which have several roller segments arranged next to each other with their frontal sides, and which are supported to rotate freely and be perpendicularly movable with respect to their rotation axis. Each roller segment is held by a frame, which is supported to move perpendicularly to the rotation axis. Each frame of a roller segment comprises two lateral support plates extending parallelly to their frontal sides, whereby the neighboring support plates of two roller segments are arranged one above the other perpendicularly to the motion direction. The support plates can have deep annular grooves wherein the frontal faces of the roller segments can rotate free of touch.

  • Patent number: 6173918
Abstract: A veneer reeling apparatus for winding a veneer sheet around a freely rotatable take-up reel into a veneer roll. Veneer sheet is transferred by a plurality of spaced conveyer belts extending below the take-up reel. The take-up reel is removably supported by movable reel carriages for movement therewith toward and away from the conveyer belts. Each belts is urged toward the take-up reel to be kept in resiliently pressing contact with veneer roll for friction driving. There is provided a detector for monitoring an increment in diameter of the veneer roll during reeling operation and generating a signal in response to the detection of a predetermined amount of increment in the roll diameter and for detecting the force with which a roll member presses against the veneer roll and for generating a signal upon detection of a predetermined force in response to an increase in diameter of the veneer roll.
