Abstract: A method of redirecting a glass ribbon assembly from a first glass conveyance path to a second. The method includes conveying the glass ribbon assembly that includes a flexible glass substrate that has first and second surfaces that extend laterally between the edges, and first and second handling tabs affixed to the respective edges. The handling tabs extend above and below the flexible glass substrate and define a handling surface envelope. The method also includes supporting the glass ribbon assembly on the first and second handling tabs such that the flexible glass substrate is free to flex out of the handling surface envelope while remaining spaced apart from a primary roll member when the flexible glass substrate is directed around the primary roll member.

Abstract: A sensor device for sensing wetness in an absorbent article worn by a subject includes one or more sensing elements; and a coupling for communicating sensor signals between the one or more sensing elements and a receiver. A change in environmental parameter causes a change in electrical behaviour of at least one of the sensing elements, which behaviour can be analysed to determine occurrence of a wetness event in the absorbent article. The changes in electrical behaviour are communicated in the sensor signals to the receiver. The analysis may be by the receiver or a processor in communication with the receiver. Ideally, the sensing elements include capacitive elements and preferably, resonance circuits.

Abstract: Systems methods and devices for packaging used grain bags as the grain bags are being unloaded. The system is located at the top of a grain unloader machine or a grain extractor machine. The invention uses a pair of plates with retractable winding cores placed at the center of each plate. At the start of the unloading process, the end of a grain bag is attached to both the retractable winding cores. As the grain bag is unloaded, the unloader moves down the length of the grain bag. The portion of the grain bag that is emptied is rolled up by the rotating winding cores. The winding cores are powered by one or two external motors controlled by a user. Once the empty grain bag has been completely rolled up, the retractable winding cores can be retracted.

Abstract: A coreless roll of paper is formed by winding a web of paper around an elongated mandrel to form a roll of convolutely wound paper. The mandrel is formed from flexible and elastic material, and after the roll is wound, the mandrel is pulled longitudinally and withdrawn from the roll of paper to form a coreless roll. Alternatively, the mandrel can be pressurized to expand the mandrel radially before or during the winding of the web around the mandrel. After the roll is wound, the pressure in the mandrel is relieved so that the mandrel contracts radially, and the mandrel is withdrawn from the roll. A novel clasp is used to grasp and extract a tubular mandrel from the roll. The clasp includes a rigid shaft which is adapted to be inserted into a tubular mandrel. A plurality of clamping blocks are spaced radially outwardly from the shaft and are spaced circumferentially around the shaft.

Abstract: This disclosure relates to the field of self-supporting extendable materials such as tapes used for sealing, adhering two surfaces together, masking, medical tape, and the like; papers, vinyls, and decal substrates. More specifically, the disclosure is directed to coated extendable self-supporting materials, for example, adhesive tapes, papers, and adhesive sheets, and the manufacture of adhesive tapes and papers, wherein a length of tape or other material extends rigidly a certain distance and does not coil or curl onto itself, or curl or coil prematurely onto the receiving substrate. Yet, the material maintains flexibility to be pliable and generally to conform to a surface to which it may be applied. The material is available in sheet form or as roll goods.

Abstract: At least two or more flat rectangular wires having been fed separately or simultaneously (two or more are superimposed) are integrated by being pinched in a width direction and a thickness direction by at least two or more pairs of rollers and are rolled and formed simultaneously in a forming part to be formed into two or more flat rectangular electric wires. The two formed electric wires are stacked in layers in a wind-up part while being wound into a disk shape to provide a multi-stage coil. Two or more systems up to the forming part of the winding apparatus may be disposed in a planar layout. Each system may supply one flat rectangular electric wire separately, and the supplied electric wires may be stacked in layers in the wind-up part while being superimposed. The coil may be molded entirely.

Abstract: An octupole winding pattern for winding a fiber optic coil includes at least two layers of an eight-layer winding pattern having an end fiber optic coil diameter formed in an opposite direction as a substantial portion of a remaining portion of the respective layer. The selectively arranged octupole winding pattern may be used in a fiber optic gyroscope. A spool onto which the fiber optic coil is wound may be removable. Preferably, the octupole winding pattern is advantageously arranged to provide a substantial amount of optical symmetry with respect to a winding centerline of the fiber optic coil. In addition, the octupole winding pattern provides a substantial amount of geometric, mechanical, and thermal symmetry.

Abstract: A method and system of winding polymeric film includes printing an ink pattern onto a length of polymeric film (e.g., low modulus, optical grade film) prior to winding. The film and the ink pattern are simultaneously wound about a cylinder to form a wound roll, with ink pattern being interposed between successively wound layers of film. The ink pattern establishes a gap between the outermost and immediately underlying wound layers of film. The gap facilitates natural movement (e.g., relaxation) of the outermost wound layer relative to the immediately underlying wound layer, thereby compensating for any winding-related stress or tension.
