  • Patent number: 8267346
Abstract: A spool assembly has a central cylindrical barrel or tube portion formed from a substantially rectangular planar material, such as thin-gauge sheet aluminum or tin-plated steel, with beveled corners. The formation of the barrel from the substantially rectangular planar material results in a seam with shallow V-notches of the seams at the opposite ends of the barrel. A circular flange sub assembly is attached to each end of the barrel and extends radially outwardly perpendicular to the longitudinal axis of the barrel. Each flange sub assembly comprises an outer flange and an inner flange core joined by an annular ring or curl that defines a circular hub recess or cavity for receiving the respective end of the barrel. A portion of the seam at the end of the barrel is secured within the circular hub recess or cavity; whereby the flanges are keyed onto the ends of the barrel, thereby preventing circumferential slippage of the flanges on the barrel.

  • Patent number: 7766212
Abstract: A spool includes a body and a chromium layer. The body integrally includes a first portion having an annular shape and a second portion having a tubular shape. The body is formed using plastic. The first portion is provided on both sides of the second portion. The chromium layer is plated on the body. The chromium layer has a uniform thickness of about 0.1 ?m to about 100 ?m. A gold alloy wire is wound on the chromium layer. The chromium layer has a glossy surface. The spool is combined with a bonding device such that the spool electrically connects the bonding device to the gold alloy wire wound on the chromium layer. The shape of the spool is not easily changed by an external impact. When the gold alloy wire is wound on the spool, a scratch is not formed on the spool. Furthermore, the cost required for forming the spool is relatively small so that the spool may be used as an expendable supply. As a result, a recycling process is not required.

  • Patent number: 7523887
Abstract: A resin ring is integrally formed on an outer peripheral face of a metal ring to form a hub. On a lower end portion side of the resin ring, a step portion exposing the metal ring is formed. A positioning portion with which the step portion of the hub can be fitted is formed at a central portion of a lower flange. Positions in a height direction of lower end faces of the resin ring and the metal ring are different from each other. Even if a minute gap exists between the metal ring and a metal mold for molding the hub and fluid resin flows into the gap to produce a burr, the burr does not reach the lower end face of the metal ring. Therefore, variations due to the burr do not occur in the lower end face of the hub for positioning in dimension of product.
