  • Publication number: 20140150863
Abstract: A directionally-controlled roll-out elastically deployable solar array structure is disclosed. The structure includes one or more longitudinal elastic roll out booms that may be closed section or open section to allow for efficient rolled packaging onto a lateral mandrel. A flexible photovoltaic blanket is attached to a tip structure and to a lateral base support structure, but remains uncoupled from the longitudinal booms. The solar array system may be stowed simultaneously into a rolled package comprised of the roll out booms and the flexible planar blanket together, or onto independent rolls. Alternatively, the system may be stowed by rolling the booms, and accordion Z-folding the hinged flexible photovoltaic blanket into a flat stack. Structural deployment is motivated by the elastic strain energy of the roll out booms, and several methods of deployment direction control are provided to ensure a known, controlled, and unidirectional deployment path of the elastically unrolling booms.

Abstract: Transformable cable reels, related assemblies and methods are disclosed. The transformable cable reels may be provided in a first reel configuration for spooling on cable to the transformable cable reel and to pay out the spooled cable from the transformable cable reel. Cable spooled on the transformable cable reel may be payed out during cable installations. The transformable cable reel may also be configured in a second reel configuration for storage of any excess cable after cable payout. As one non-limiting example, the volume of the cable reel may be less in the second reel configuration than in the first reel configuration so that less volume is required to store the transformable cable reel. • Patent number: 6631574
Abstract: The tubular core of a rolled product (e.g., toilet tissue, foil, plastic wrap, paper towels, etc.) includes an advertising or other display thereon, visible to consumers when the product has been removed from the roll. The display may be applied directly to the core, or to a thin, flexible secondary sheet applied in turn to the core. The core tube with its message or secondary sheet and rolled product may be assembled and cut to length during manufacture. Alternatively, the secondary sheet may have a width somewhat wider than the length of the tube, so the ends of the sheet wrap around the ends of the tube and are visible about the ends of the tube when a rolled product is installed upon the tube. The present invention may be used for advertising, safety, public service, chance means (lottery, etc.) or other messages as desired.
