Patent number: 5622344Abstract: A collapsible tripod stand for supporting an instrument in a spaced position above a supporting surface. The collapsible tripod stand will normally have a slanted main supporting member which has an upper end upon which is to be mounted the instrument and a lower end which is to be located against the supporting surface. Mounted to the main supporting member are a pair of legs which are angularly disposed relative to each other when such extend transversely to the main supporting member and are in contact the supporting surface. Each of the legs is connected by links to a middle clamp band mounted on the main supporting member with this middle clamp band being slidably movable thereon. Movement of the middle clamp band is capable of locating the legs in numerous transverse positions relative to the main supporting member or when in the collapsed position the legs are located alongside and substantially parallel to the main supporting member.Type: GrantFiled: January 31, 1995Date of Patent: April 22, 1997Inventor: John D. Patent number: 5611509Abstract: A quick release mechanism is provided for securing a member to a structure, such as a support leg to a sign stand, wherein the member includes a slot having a bottom surface and the structure has a slot having an open top end. A latch member releasably attaches the member to the structure, and is adapted to extend axially through both the member and structure slots, so that a proximal portion of the latch member extends forwardly of the member slot and a distal portion of the latch member extends rearwardly into the structure slot. With this arrangement, when the latch member proximal portion is actuated downwardly, the latch member distal portion swings upwardly through the open top end of the structure slot, thereby disengaging from the structure slot and releasing the member so that it may pivot relative to the structure.Type: GrantFiled: November 22, 1994Date of Patent: March 18, 1997Assignee: Traffix Devices, Inc.Inventors: Jack H. Patent number: 5319365Abstract: A portable hazard-warning light assembly (10) that is designed to warn on-coming vehicular traffic of a hazardous traffic/road condition. The assembly (10) consists of an elongated tubular body (12) having attached to its top edge (12A) a removable lens head (18) that houses an incandescent light bulb (62) that may be connected to a flasher (36). The bulb and flasher are powered by a single battery (60) that is housed within a battery compartment (20) located at the bottom edge (12D) of the body (12) and that includes a threaded battery compartment cover (28). The body (12) also has attached a slidable leg ring (34A) that has pivotally attached four retractable legs (34D) that are each supported by a leg brace (34H). To extend the legs, the ring (34A) is grasped and lowered. Conversely, to retract the legs, the ring is moved to its upward position. To apply power to the light bulb (62), the cover (28) is rotated which allows the battery (60) to move upwards and complete the electrical power circuit.Type: GrantFiled: September 23, 1993Date of Patent: June 7, 1994Assignee: Alltrade Inc.Inventor: George Hillinger

Patent number: 5165635Abstract: A tripod stand for supporting a musical instrument or other object, wherein a main post is provided with an upper slide member to which the upper ends of the three legs of the tripod are hingedly connected. A respective articulated arm connects each leg with the lower portion of the main post. Movement of the slide member up and down causes selective inward and outward movement of the legs. One of the articulated arms is longer than the others and is attached further up its associated leg than the other articulated arms. Consequently, the downward movement of the slide member causes that leg attached to the one arm to move outward further from the main post, making the bottom ends of the legs move from defining an equilateral triangle to defining an isosceles triangle and thereby tilting the main post. Greater stability can be achieved by increasing the angle between the two legs that are opposite the leg having the one longer articulated arm.Type: GrantFiled: April 4, 1989Date of Patent: November 24, 1992Assignee: Hoshino Gakki Co., Ltd.Inventor: Yoshihiro Hoshino

Patent number: 5156366Abstract: A golf bag stand having both an actuated state and a disabled state. The bag has two legs pivotally mounted side by side at the top of the bag. Each leg carries a sliding bracket which can be held in a disabled position and an actuating position. The two arms of a V-shaped spring push rod fit within the bracket, the arms being spring-pressed towards one another. The lower end of this rod forms a projector. When the stand is in its disabled state, the projector does not extend beyond the base of the bag; when in its actuated state, the projector extends two to three inches below the base of the bag. When the device is in its actuated state and the user puts the bag down on its base, the projector touches the ground and is forced upwardly relative to the bag. This forces the legs to swing outwardly, forming, with the bag itself, a tripod-like stand for the bag.Type: GrantFiled: July 10, 1991Date of Patent: October 20, 1992Assignee: Loctec CorporationInventor: Victor R. -
Patent number: 5062606Abstract: A tripod stand for supporting a musical instrument or other object, wherein a main post is provided with an upper slide member to which the upper ends of the three legs of the tripod are hingedly connected. A respective articulated arm connects each leg with the lower portion of the main post. Movement of the slide member up and down causes selective inward and outward movement of the legs. One of the articulated arms is adjustable in length and is typically adjusted longer than the other nonadjustable articulated arms when it is desired to tilt the stand toward the leg attached at the one articulated arm. Such adjustability is obtained by making the one articulated arm telescopable in length or by providing that arm with an elongate slot that is slidable along the journal connection of that arm to the respective leg and is selectively positionable at a desired length for that arm.Type: GrantFiled: June 4, 1990Date of Patent: November 5, 1991Assignee: Hoshino Gakki Co. Patent number: 5022470Abstract: An autonomous ice penetrator/payload delivery system is provided which, when once launched from its parent vehicle will, upon reaching the surface of the ice automatically right itself to proper orientation with respect to the ice surface for penetration. A modified solid propellant rocket engine is used as the heat source to penetrate the ice rapidly and automatically is ignited upon the ice pentrator/payload containment vessel attaining proper orientation with its longitudinal axis substantially normal to the ice surface. The hot gasses of combustion produced by the modified rocket engine impinge upon the ice thereby melting it. As the ice is melted and penetrated, the penetrator/payload containment vessel will follow the receding ice surface either by gravity, or by motive forces provided by the modified rocket engine, or both.Type: GrantFiled: June 28, 1989Date of Patent: June 11, 1991Assignee: Ocean Systems Research, Inc.Inventors: James K. A lever member is provided on the upper portion of the supporting cylinder to force against the sliding pole within the cylinder and hold it in position. The sliding pole is provided with a rack portion on one side thereof and rack and pinion gear drive means are connected to the side of the supporting cylinder in such a manner that they engage the rack portion of the sliding pole to move it up and down within the supporting cylinder as the gears are rotated.Type: GrantFiled: January 3, 1977Date of Patent: December 6, 1977Inventor: Sasuke Takahashi

Patent number: 4006876Abstract: An improved instrument support structure including a post telescoped in a column, with means for adjusting their combined length, and three legs pivoted at the bottom of a column for swinging movement from adjacent the column to extended, base defining positions. The legs are locked by extendible struts including fluid actuators with one strut interconnecting each leg with the column. Fluid from a reservoir on the column is directed to all actuators when the legs are extended, and then valving is closed to shut off fluid intercommunication and lock the legs. The valving further includes provision for permitting one of the leg actuators to be manually pumped for drawing fluid from the reservoir and forcing fluid into the other leg actuators for easy setup of the structure.Type: GrantFiled: October 15, 1974Date of Patent: February 8, 1977Inventor: Chadwell O'Connor
