Patent number: 7350646Abstract: A corner protector has a pair of opposite frame embracing faces which are resilient and bowed so that, in use, the corner region of a frame to be protected must force its way into position on between the opposite faces of the protector and will thereafter be frictionally gripped between them until the protector is subsequently released by pulling it off against the frictional resistance. Frame-gripping ribs may be incorporated on the major faces of the protector and in addition the protector may be tapered outwardly from its apex to its open mouth to provide a lead for insertion of the frame. To provide a still greater lead, the open edges of the protector may each be given a slight flange extension, but at opposite ends of the two edges.Type: GrantFiled: March 3, 2003Date of Patent: April 1, 2008Inventor: Säm Durrant

Patent number: 6543738Abstract: A shock mount structure is shown that has one position wherein shock mount members positioned at the corners of the device are contained within the length, width, and height of the form factor with which the device complies and a second position wherein the elastomeric corner members violate the form factor, but are positioned to impact a planar surface, toward which the device is dropped, before any portion of the device, irrespective of the attitude of the device as it approaches the planar surface. To assure protection, the elastomeric corner shock mount elements are urged toward the second position by integral springs and are manually movable to the first position by overcoming the biasing force of the springs.Type: GrantFiled: July 20, 2001Date of Patent: April 8, 2003Assignee: International Business Machines CorporationInventor: Gordon James Smith

Patent number: 6526708Abstract: A removable and reusable door frame guard for installation over and providing temporary protection to door trim attached to a door jamb. The guard includes a relatively rigid elongate upright member of shock absorbing material with an L-shaped cross section for covering adjacent bottom, front and inside portions of a vertical door jamb to be protected, and an expandable clamp means is secured to an upper end of the upright member and dimensioned in position for expanding and thereby engaging a bottom surface of a horizontal door header to hold the upright member in position.Type: GrantFiled: August 30, 2001Date of Patent: March 4, 2003Inventors: Briane L. Hartley, Edwin R. Malacki

Publication number: 20030038054Abstract: A corner protecting device of vacuum molded paper fiber wherein the device is molded onto a porous mold form, the mold form having valleys about twice the width of the material thickness when molded causing the material at the two sides of the valleys to merge and form columnar-like lands connected by rebounding arch-shaped material thus producing a complex resistance to crushing. Splitting is reduced by undulating tunnel configurations, bottom flanges and a dome shaped peak.Type: ApplicationFiled: August 22, 2001Publication date: February 27, 2003Inventors: Richard B. Hurley, Thomas J. Taylor, Scott S. Seelye, Mark W. Betts

Patent number: 6520469Abstract: A safety attachment for utility pole transport having a mid bracket and an end bracket that attach around a utility pole. The mid bracket is situated along the unsupported length of the pole, and the end bracket is positioned at the rear end of the pole. A plate is attached to the end bracket, covering the end of the utility pole. A horizontal impact beam is situated below the pole, and is attached to the plate with a plurality of vertical members. A pair of diagonal arms extend from the mid bracket to the impact beam and help distribute impact forces on the utility pole. Accordingly, if a vehicle were to collide with the pole, the bumper of the vehicle would strike the impact beam, reducing the severity of damage. Reflectors or lighting devices are positioned along the impact beam to help reduce the chance of a collision.Type: GrantFiled: October 13, 2001Date of Patent: February 18, 2003Inventor: Gerard DiMauro

Patent number: 6418578Abstract: A protective guard is disclosed that is particularly adapted for use with a bed frame. The guard is adapted to fit over an existing leg of the bed frame and has a specially shaped opening in the upper surface into which the leg of the bed frame can fit. A caster assembly has an upstanding stem that passes the existing leg in the leg structure and holds the protective guard in position affixed to the bed frame. The protective guard is shaped in a variety of configurations and surface markings so as to be adapted to fit the décor of the room in which it is used. In addition, the overall shape of the protective guard covers the leg of the bed frame to provide protection against injury from the inadvertent bumping of the bed frame leg by persons walking or standing near the bed frame. In one embodiment, the protective guard is an integrated shield and a caster assembly that is affixed to the leg of the bed frame and provides a protective plastic covering for the caster assembly as well as the leg.Type: GrantFiled: March 25, 2000Date of Patent: July 16, 2002Assignee: Finger Lakes Intellectual Property, LLCInventors: Richard Polevoy, Howard Scott Ryan, Paul Eric Carlson
