  • Patent number: 6719257
Abstract: An adjustable stop attached to the smaller of two nested telescoping tubes. The stop is in the form of a sleeve that is axially and rotationally adjustable on the smaller tube. The sleeve is smaller in diameter than the inner diameter of the larger tube, and it has a detent for a pin extending inward from a tube clamp on the larger tube. The detent receives and releases the pin in both axial directions. This provides a detent at a selected relative extension and rotation position of the tubes, yet it also allows the smaller tube to fully retract into the larger tube. The tube clamp is used to fix the tubes at the detent position. The tube clamp is used conventionally to set a desired detent position.

In the preferred embodiment, a post holder is provided with a shoe which contacts the post. The shoe is urged toward the post with a spring, in the preferred embodiment a single convolution spring. Preferably, the shoe has a relatively large face area contacting the post, thereby provide more positive locking of the post relative to the post holder with the application of lesser external force. Ideally, the spring applies sufficient force on the shoe that the post does not move under the force of gravity. In operation, the user may remove the external force, move the post relative to the post holder, and reapply an external locking force, at any time the post being supported by the breaking arrangement. Abstract: An interior clamping device for tubular poles which includes a driver disposed in one tubular member with a tapered end portion projecting outwardly from the tubular member. An expandable sleeve is disposed in a second tubular member. Locking means removably secure the driver to the sleeve by a fastener so that when the driver is rotated in one direction the expandable sleeve is moved radially outwardly against the inner surface of the tube to lock the tubes together.

  • Patent number: 4744690
Abstract: A stabilizer including a female ring installed on a female tube of the telescopic stand and a male ring installed on a male tube of a telescopic stand. The male ring is put in the female ring and a hole is set on each of two outwardly projecting parallel walls. Inside one of the holes of the female ring is a toothed block which is engageable with another toothed block of a handle so that the tightness and relaxation of the stabilizer is determined by rotating the handle to engage or disengage the two toothed blocks. The male ring further has an opening between the two holes of the male ring in which a spring is set to provide the male ring with a better restoring force.

  • Patent number: 4687167
Abstract: A computer support includes a base member to which an inner swing arm is pivotally mounted with an outer swing arm being pivotally mounted on the outer end of the inner swing arm and supporting a platform support by a lazy-susan bearing on its outer end. The pivotal connections are provided by pivot shafts over which pivot sleeves are positioned with upper and lower spaced roller bearing sets therebetween and a low-friction load bearing sleeve of substantial hardness engaging the lower end of each pivot sleeve to support same. Brake/lock means at each pivot permits retention of the arms in any desired rotational position in separate horizontal planes of movement.

  • Patent number: 4657218
Abstract: An improved easily-adjustable chair pedestal having two principal tubular members, including a base member and a pedestal tube therein, which are axially adjustable to an infinite number of positions and are clamped together at the desired relative positions. An off-center coil spring, which is held in proper vertical alignment by support structure, biases the pedestal tube upwardly. A clamp screw passes through an orifice in the base member and through a slot in the pedestal tube and is threadedly engaged with a locking block, located inside the pedestal tube in space provided by the off-center location of the spring, to hold the principal tubular members in position.

  • Patent number: 4657425
Abstract: A device for locking a rod against movement in an extending or contracting direction is disclosed. In the device, a torsion spring is provided between a cylindrical receptacle and an operating member rotatably mounted thereon. The rod member, which is inserted in the receptacle, is normally locked against movement by the torsion spring. The rod can be released from the locked state for movement in an extending or contracting direction by releasing the clamping force of the spring by turning the operating member.

  • Patent number: 4627591
Abstract: In furniture having vertically adjustable legs, the legs comprise inner and outer telescoping leg segments which are relatively vertically movable. The inner leg segment carries brake shoes which are movable transversely relative to the longitudinal axis of the inner leg segment. A pair of levers are disposed within the inner leg segment and are swingable about a common transverse axle so as to selectively lengthen and shorten the effective transverse dimension of the levers. Outer ends of the levers bear against respective brake shoes, such that when the effective transverse dimension of the levers is lengthened, the brake shoes are pushed outwardly into frictional engagement with the outer leg segment to prevent movement of the latter. When that effective transverse dimension is shortened, the brake shoes are retracted to release the outer leg segment for movement.

  • Patent number: 4557450
Abstract: A device for locking a drawing board of a drawing table in a selected position; the drawing board consisting essentially of a working board secured to a movable cylindrical column adapted to slide vertically in a frame structure bearing on the floor, the weight of the assembly being compensated by a balancing device disposed between the frame structure and the board, the locking device proper comprising a pair of coplanar brake shoes encompassing the column and rigidly mounted to the frame structure; the brake shoe movements being controlled by a pedal disposed externally of the frame structure. A plate supporting two pivoted arms each connected to one brake shoes, on the hand, and to the plate, on the other hand, keeps the brake applied against the column by means of a pair of traction springs tensioned on either side of the shoes between a bearing point located on the frame structure and a traction point located on the plate.
