For Ground Insertion Patents (Class 248/545)
  • Patent number: 5457918
Abstract: An anchoring device for anchoring a post into a ground surface made of granular material. The anchoring device is particularly well adapted to anchor a beach umbrella into the sand. The anchoring device has a sleeve section and an integrally extending insertion section. The sleeve section defines a post receiving channel adapted to receive the post. The insertion section has a conically tapering configuration. A pair of parallel insertion threads extends integrally from the outer surface of the insertion section and a portion of the sleeve section. The parallel threads facilitate the insertion into the sand and further stabilize the device. A locking sleeve extends integrally from the sleeve section adjacent its top end. The locking sleeve defines a threaded locking channel that emerges into the post receiving channel. A handle sleeve also extends integrally from the sleeve section. The handle sleeve is diametrically opposed to the locking sleeve.

  • Patent number: 5396743
Abstract: An anchorage device for use in sand or sandy soils. The device comprises a shank portion (2) and a spike portion (4) at a lower end of the shank portion. The spike portion (4) comprises a first and second pair of downwardly convergent plates (6,18), the second pair of plates (18) extending from a position above the upper ends of the first plates (6) to a position beneath the upper ends of the first plates to funnel sand into the zone between the interior surfaces of the first plates (6). The sand thereby trapped between the plates anchors the spike portion (4) within the ground. The device may be used for example for anchoring beach umbrellas, tents and fences in sand or sandy soil.

  • Patent number: 5366190
Abstract: A four-sided hollow post provides a mount for four repeater housings of the type used by the cable industry and protectively houses the cable so that cable guards are not needed. The post has a removable back panel so that backfill material is positioned within the hollow interior of the post during the backfill procedure; this stabilizes the post so that it remains upright. The base of the post is also flared outwardly to accomplish the same objective. A unistrut bracket is positioned in each of the four side walls to enable facile mounting of brackets that support the repeater housings, and a knock out panel is formed in each side wall so that the cable stubs depending from a repeater housing may extend into the interior of the post through a cable exit port that is created when the knock out panel is removed.

The stake has a clamp at its upper end so that the stake can be driven into the ground, then a conventional sign post can be clamped for support. The stake includes a flange, of rods, used to stabilize the stake and prevent rotation. The clamp may also include holes to received small flag poles as an additional attraction to the sign.

  • Patent number: 4896651
Abstract: A portable, collapsible cooking grill assembly for use at temporary camp sites has an elongated spud support which is driven into the ground by means of a driving tool having an impact head at its upper end. The impact head absorbs the force of the blows used to install the spud support in the ground. The driving tool is then removed and a grill support post is removably fit on the spud support. A removable grill may then be placed on the grill support post. The driving tool thus spares the spud support, grill support post and grill from any damage that may occur from hammer blows during installation. The height and lateral position of the grill may also be easily adjusted.

  • Patent number: 4874149
Abstract: A post support for securing a post in the ground in a generally vertical position, which post support comprises an elongated ground-engaging spike to be driven vertically into the ground and a post support hollow container which comprises a pair of fixed, right angle vertical wall sections which form a part of the hollow container and which have tapered hemmed edges and a pair of right angled wedge end caps which also have tapered hemmed edges, with the wedge end caps adapted to have their edges fit in an overlapping relationship with the hemmed edges of the fixed vertical wall section and to be driven downwardly on the installation of the post to force the fixed wall sections inwardly so as to wedge and engage the post within the hollow container section thereby providing the support and securing of a post in the post support.

  • Patent number: 4863137
Abstract: A post anchor (A) is disclosed for anchoring a post (18) and the like in ground soil which comprises an elongated shank (10) having a boring end (14) and a bracket end (16). An auger (B) is carried at least near the boring end of the shank for boring a hole in the soil. A bracket (C) is carried near the bracket end of the shank for attaching the post to the shank. A compactor plate (D) is carried by the shank near the bracket end for compacting the soil between the compactor plate and the auger. A drive coupling (F) attaches to the bracket for connecting to a power drive for rotating the coupling and elongated shank. The drive coupling has a first position for connecting to the bracket for screwing the anchor into the ground and a second position for connecting it to the bracket for screwing the anchor out of the ground.

Abstract: A marker supported in the ground allows a reel-type grass mower to cut grass around the marker without requiring the removal of the marker. The marker has a flexible elastomeric element coupled between a substantially rigid shaft and a substantially rigid stake and for urging the shaft into axial alignment with the stake and for allowing a reel-type grass mower to bend the rigid shaft over at the elastomeric element to a position with a sign member substantially flat with the ground.

  • Patent number: 4858877
Abstract: Plastic light standard includes a nonconductive plastic pipe with an end for receiving electrical conductors or electrical conduit and a cap secured to the upper portion of the pipe above ground. The cap includes an aperture in which an electrical element is secured and through which electrical conductors extend from the electrical element into the standard for connecting the conductors from underground with the conductors from the electrical element. Stabilizer plates are secured to the pipe in the ground for stabilizing the pipe to prevent the pipe from moving.

  • Patent number: 4858876
Abstract: A post and ground support is illustrated utilizing a helical member forming an auger for digging the ground support into the earth, and easily removing the ground support from the ground and reusing said support in another location. The ground support includes a ground engaging stabilizing member affording resistance to a force having a component at right angles to the post, and a breakaway connection is provided between the ground support member and the post, together with a connection for retaining the post in a position near the ground after separation therefrom. The breakaway connection positions the post upon the ground support above the ground and separates in response to a force coming from any direction about the post. A shear pin having longitudinally flat surfaces extending circumferentially thereabout prevents turning of the post with respect to the ground support and a groove extending about said flat surfaces assure uniformity of shearing from any direction in which the force is applied.

  • Patent number: 4852512
Abstract: A location marking device includes a hollow body adapted to function as a spike or stake for insertion into the ground, and a roll of a narrow strip of sheet material disposed within the hollow body and adapted to be withdrawn axially therefrom through one open end. Withdrawal of the coiled strip by grasping and pulling the inner end thereof forms a narrow, self-supporting conical spiral. The device provides a safe, convenient, economical and very functional means of marking the location of underground utility lines and the like.
