Patent number: 6082430Abstract: A garage door safety bracket (26) utilizes a fixed member (42) and a sliding member (44) to inhibit removal of the bracket (26) while there is tension in a cable (40) which is attached to the sliding member (44). The sliding member includes three access apertures (68) and moves between tensioned and untensioned positions. Tension in the cable (40) forces the sliding member into the tensioned position in which the access apertures (68) are offset from panel fasteners (48) which attach the bracket (26) to a lower panel (30L) of a garage door (22). When the tension on the cable (40) is released, the sliding member (44) slides into the untensioned position in which the access apertures (68) are aligned with the panel fasteners (48) permitting access to the panel fasteners (48). A roller mount (46) is separately attached to the sliding member (44) by roller mount fasteners (74) which permit a lower roller (32L) to be serviced without releasing the tension on the cable (40).Type: GrantFiled: April 7, 1999Date of Patent: July 4, 2000Assignee: Amarr Garage DoorsInventor: Loren D. Patent number: 5699684Abstract: A bicycle security mount which includes a base and a pair of spaced supporting arms extending outwardly from the base. Each supporting arm has a threaded aperture for receiving a bolt. A shield is mounted on each bolt. Each shield has a bore and a counterbore. The shank of the bolt extends freely through the bore and lies entirely within the counterbore of the shield. The tines of the front fork of a bicycle are positioned on the security mounts so that the tines straddle the supporting arms. Each tine is positioned between a supporting am and a shield. The bolt lies within the downwardly facing open ended slot of the tine so that the tine is clamped between the shield and the supporting arm. The clearance between the bolt and the inner surface of the counterbore is too small to receive a conventional socket wrench but large enough to receive a socket wrench which is specifically designed for the bicycle security mount. More specifically, the bicycle security mount includes a cap for each shield.Type: GrantFiled: August 20, 1996Date of Patent: December 23, 1997Inventor: John R. Sulin

Patent number: 5697233Abstract: A tamper-proof device is provided for lockingly attaching a piece of equipment such as a TV set or a microwave oven to a support base. It has a pair of rigid plates that are respectively connected to the piece of equipment and the support base. One of the plates is surrounded by a flange which defines a closed area in which wedges are located to hook both plates together. The two plates are rigidly connected to each other by a screwable bolt that can be reached with a screw driver through a coaxial opening provided in the flange. A sleeve extends in between the head of the bolt and the opening. This sleeve can be closed by key-operated lock in order to prevent access to the bolt. The lock is free to rotate within the sleeve even when its latch is locked in outward position. Such prevents a theft from breaking the latch by forcing the lock into rotation in a cantilever fashion.Type: GrantFiled: February 12, 1997Date of Patent: December 16, 1997Assignee: Baultar Inc.Inventors: Andre Albert, Bruno Archambault, Claude Therer

Patent number: 5686773Abstract: The connection structure of alternator mount stays with a drive frame and a rear frame is strengthened so that increased vibration of the alternator's rotor and a stator is prevented and, accordingly, generation of magnetic noise is suppressed. The alternator is provided with generally triangular engine-mounting stays which are secured to an engine. A plurality of stay-reinforcement ribs are integrally formed with sides of the engine-mounting stays of the alternator and with the bottom of outer peripheries of the alternator, thereby increasing the rigidity of the stays. Consequently, vibrations from the engine are not amplified by the engine-mounting stays or transmitted to the drive frame or to the rear frame, thereby suppressing an increase in vibration of the rotor and the stator. Deformation of the drive frame and the rear frame due to the vibration transmitted from the engine is also prevented.Type: GrantFiled: June 6, 1995Date of Patent: November 11, 1997Assignee: Nippondenso Co., Ltd.Inventors: Hiroshi Sakakibara, Hirofumi Fujimoto

Patent number: 5667187Abstract: An anti-theft device for portable equipment, such as typewriters, personal computers, video recorders and general office equipment, is in the form of a support or stand which has two components that are mechanically joined by one or more recessed tamperproof screws. Each component has an adhesive strip. By means of these adhesive strips, one component is bonded to the underside of the equipment and the other component is bonded to a mounting surface. The two components can be joined together by tamperproof screws, making the equipment very difficult to remove except by means of a special tool designed for the screws. More than one device may be used with an equipment item so as to give adequate balance and support when the item has an irregular underside. Such a situation arises when the underside has a multiple-planar design or contains ventilation holes and calibration access portals.Type: GrantFiled: March 11, 1996Date of Patent: September 16, 1997Assignee: CDW Industries, Inc.Inventors: Milton J. Patent number: 5653366Abstract: A safety box is adapted for use at any suitable location; however, it is designed especially for use in an automotive vehicle, and more specifically in a rented auto. An anchor member (perhaps a massive nylon block) is bolted to the floor of the vehicle or to another suitable stationary structure. The bottom of the box has a cavity which slips over and captures the anchor member, thus securing the box to the automotive vehicle floor or the like. A sliding door panel is located on the top of the box. In the back of the box, a sliding latch bar is completely enclosed within a vertical bore through the box wall. A spring biases the latch bar to a raised position where its lower end is outside the cavity. A closing of the lid pushes the latch bar downwardly and into the cavity, which traps the anchor member within the cavity to prevent a theft of the box. The closed lid, and therefore the trapped anchor member, is locked with a single key.Type: GrantFiled: December 13, 1995Date of Patent: August 5, 1997Inventor: Tony Liserre

Patent number: 5597150Abstract: A pilfer-resistant peg hook assembly for supporting a plurality of articles incorporating defined slots and enabling only one article at a time to be removed therefrom is formed of a peg hook and a flipper. The peg hook has a pair of opposed ends and a body connecting the same. One of the hook ends is configured and dimensioned to maintain the hook body substantially horizontal when mounted on an appropriate surface, and the other of the hook ends is a free end. The hook body is configured and dimensioned to be received in the slots of the articles and defines a vertically extending bump adjacent to but spaced from the free end. The flipper is pivotably secured adjacent the free end and is movable between an enabling orientation enabling at least partial passage of an article along the book body and onto the flipper as the article moves towards the free end, and a blocking orientation precluding passage of an article onto the flipper as the article moves towards the free end.Type: GrantFiled: March 22, 1995Date of Patent: January 28, 1997Assignee: Display Technologies, Inc.Inventors: Arthur Stein, William C.
