  • Patent number: 7926769
Abstract: A passive/reactive device protests a Payload from injury or damage due to the shock caused by impact or explosion. When the vehicle or structure mounting the Payload receives a shock pulse, the invention limits the acceleration transmitted from the vehicle or structure to the Payload to an acceptably low, user-adjustable level which is substantially constant or is some other user-adjustable force-displacement function. The invention is capable of doing so even when the peak magnitude of the imposed shock is on the order of thousands of G's, with a rise time to peak on the order of microseconds. The invention can be embodied to operate passively, without any external source of power, sensor system, or CPU, although they can be added to improve certain usability features. The invention also absorbs or dissipates the shock energy in substantially the minimum distance possible without exceeding the user-defined acceleration limit on the Payload.

  • Patent number: 6115972
Abstract: A stabilization system protects a structural member from the effects of seismic disturbances. Pendular isolators are positioned between a structure fixed to the ground and the structural member, which is movable and which is sought to be protected, such as a complete building, a building slab upon which sensitive equipment is used, or a bridge deck. The pendular isolators can be rods extending between the building and the slab floor, wherein ends of rods connected to the slab floor include a spherical friction knuckle joint or bearing, i.e., knuckle element/socket assembly. Alternatively, each pendular isolator can be a set of supports movable relative to each other and connected by at least one rod having a knuckle joint at each end thereof. The friction at the knuckle joint is utilized to provide a damping of the seismic disturbance, thereby permitting only limited relative movement between the fixed structure and the movable structural member in the event of a seismic disturbance.

Abstract: A shock mounting system for use in a housing is disclosed. The shock moung system includes a shock absorbing base mount member connectable to the housing, a shock absorbing stability mount connectable to the housing, and a mountable component interposed between and secured to each of the base mount member and the stability mount member. The interposition of the mountable component between the shock absorbing base mount member and the shock absorbing stability mount isolates the mountable component from shock due to an external force applied to the housing.

Abstract: This invention relates to a housing unit in which a certain unit is provided in a packaging case. The object of the invention is to reduce the number of parts and fabrication steps to lower production cost and to cushioned impact applied to the unit. A disc unit provided in the packaging case is urged by restoring forces of a first, a second and a third pressing portion, which are formed integrally with the packaging case. Also, the disc unit is held down to be secured by a stopper portion which secure disc units of different height.

  • Patent number: 6003828
Abstract: To prevent tilting or bending of a large mask frame holder and at the same time to prevent distortion when the mask holding frame is attached to a support base by ball plungers in three of the four corner areas of a mask holding frame that engage V groove bodies which face the ball plungers on the surface of the base, compression springs are provided in those three corners which pre-stress the mask holding frame toward the support base while a compression spring is provided between the remaining corner area of the mask holding frame and the base which acts in a direction pressing the mask holding frame away from the support base, thereby preventing the mask holding frame from bending or tilting. As an alternative, in each of the three pre-stressed corner areas of the mask holding frame, instead of a compression spring, an elastic attachment component in the form of a bracket with spring-like legs mounted to the supporting component can be provided.

Abstract: A gyro isolation assembly (10) is provided including a cradle (24) having a base (26) and a plurality of reinforcement wall portions extending therefrom (28, 30). A first bracket (50) is provided for supporting a first end of the cradle (24) in a suspended manner and a second bracket (50) is provided for supporting a second end of the cradle (24) in a symmetrical suspended manner. The center of the cradle assembly is attached to the mounting surface, forming the primary fixed attach point (43). Each end is then attached to the surface via the brackets (50) that allow compliance in one direction, but are stiff in the other two directions. A mounting structure (12) is provided for supporting a gyro therein. The mounting structure is suspended between the reinforcement wall portions (28) of the cradle (24). A plurality of isolators (34) are disposed between the mounting structure (12) and the cradle (24).

  • Patent number: 5797227
Abstract: A stabilization system protects a structure, comprising at least a slab and having a foundation formed in the earth, from the effects of seismic disturbances. Pendulum support elements, secured at upper ends to respective support columns affixed to the foundation and at lower ends to support positions of the slab, support the slab while permitting limited relative movement between the slab and the support columns in the event of a seismic disturbance. A damping system connects the slab to the foundation to impede action of forces tending to produce relative rotation between the slab and the foundation and to provide damped control of relative linear displacements therebetween. A level monitoring system monitors the respective levels of monitoring positions displaced about the slab and detects differential changes in the levels at the monitoring positions, the rods being adjustable to correct for such differential changes and thereby to reestablish a common level condition at all monitoring positions.
