  • Patent number: 7401717
Abstract: An automatic lifting mechanism for motorcycle saddle mainly includes a first and a second supporting arm respectively fixed to a saddle and a body of a motorcycle, at least one spiral spring having two sideward extended terminal ends separately pressed against the two supporting arms, and a damping device located in the at least one spiral spring to rotatably engage at two ends with the two supporting arms. While a spring force of each spiral spring quickly elastically stretches open the first and the second supporting arm when the saddle is unlocked, the damping device limits a rotating speed of the two supporting arms, so that the saddle could be automatically lifted or moved downward at a buffered speed without the risk of injuring a user.

  • Publication number: 20080121778
Abstract: It is intended that an operation force required for pivoting a movable body can be maintained substantially constant regardless of an angular position of pivot of the movable body. A pivot mechanism (a tumble mechanism 10A) includes a floor-side member B fixed to a desired position, a seat-side member 12 coupled to the floor-side member B by hinge coupling so as to be pivotable within a predetermined angle range, and a torsion spring member 14 arranged to bias the seat-side member 12 in a pivot direction opposite to the gravitational force acting on the seat-side member 12. The pivot mechanism is constructed such that gravitational moments about a pivot center 13a acting on the seat-side member 12 can be changed depending on pivoting thereof. The torsion spring member 14 has an biasing section 14b for biasing the seat-side member 12 and a support section 14a supported on the floor-side member B.

  • Patent number: 4605334
Abstract: A mechanism is disclosed to provide pivotal motion between two movable members. The mechanism includes a hemispherical yoke connected to one of the movable members. A center support is connected to the remaining movable member and is nested within the yoke and spaced apart therefrom. A set of four radially projecting torsion bars are connected to the yoke and center support. The torsion bars are substantially coplanar and define a cross-shaped configuration in plan. Four braces are provided to interconnect adjacent torsion bars. Preferably, each of the torsion bars is surrounded by a tubular segment which is affixed to the radially outer end of the torsion bars. Preferably the radially inner portion of the torsion bar is supported by a rotatable bearing. The subject mechanism is low in profile, easy to mount and dismount, and provides a degree of elasticity in the vertical axis.

  • Patent number: 4151973
Abstract: A seat mounting structure is provided including a stationary base and a generally horizontal seat support assembly disposed above the base. Spring controlled pivoted levers and connecting links support the assembly above the base for vertical movement relative thereto between upper and lower limit positions while maintaining the seat support generally horizontally disposed. Controlling springs of the seat mounting structure include a first pair of springs which are progressively tensioned as the seat support assembly is moved from its upper limit position to its lower limit position and a second pair of springs which are pretensioned and which are further tensioned, considerably more gradually than the first pair of springs, as the seat support assembly is moved from its upper limit position to its lower limit position. In addition, adjustment structure is provided whereby the tension of the first and second pairs of springs may be rapidly and selectively adjusted.
