  • Patent number: 4946128
Abstract: A shock-absorbing support for a load comprises one or more spaced kinestatic members which support the load. The kinestatic members are supported at points adjacent their ends by supports which permit the kinestatic members to slide along their longitudinal axes relative to the points of support as the force on an individual kinestatic member varies, thus causing each member to assume a more or less bowed condition. With the system in a state of equilibrium, i.e., with each kinestatic member being flexed to an extent depending on its contribution to the support of the entire load, an increased load will cause an increase in the flex of each member until a new point of equilibrium is reached. If the additional load is removed, each kinestatic member will tend to straighten out, thus causing a longitudinal sliding movement through the points of support and creating friction during sliding engagement with a shock-absorbing member which absorbs the energy and prevents oscillations.

Abstract: An assembly for providing support to a component, such as an ultrasonic component, including converters, boosters and horns which are subjected to continuous and repeated impacts and stresses. Such devices generally have integral nodal flanges for support purposes. In this assembly, shock-absorbing means are placed on each side of the nodal flange. A grip ring assembly is then bolted or otherwise removably fastened, together over the shock-absorbing means and nodal flange, compressing the shock-absorbing means. The component is prevented from rotating with respect to the grip ring assembly by pegs which are driven through holes provided in the grip ring assembly and into slots formed lengthwise in the nodal flange. Hence the flange itself, via the shock-absorbing means, absorbs all of the lengthwise force applied to the component by the grip ring assembly, and the pegs are required to absorb none of it.

  • Patent number: 4317556
Abstract: A light weight chassis or skid for a turbine or engine-generator combination has a relatively narrow central beam section with laterally extending wing portions which are provided with mounting pads for the engine and the generator. The chassis is supported on a supporting surface by three resilient motor mounts, two of which are connected to wing portions and the third is positioned under the center line of the beam portion and under the engine. The three mounts enable securing the chassis to irregular surfaces without twisting the chassis and affecting alignment problems of the engine output shaft and the generator shaft, which misalignment can cause bearing wear and other maintenance problems.

  • Patent number: 4182504
Abstract: An apparatus for axial support and shock suppression of a pipe includes a walking beam having an inner portion secured to the pipe and an outer portion. The inner and outer portions of the walking beam are pivotally interconnected above an axis extending through the centerline of the pipe. A pair of support members are pivotally connected to the outer portion of the walking beam on opposite sides of the pipe so that longitudinal loads to the pipe are reacted without effecting a bending moment in the pipe. In the preferred embodiment, a rigid strut and a yieldable snubber device comprise the support members.
