  • Patent number: 4774386
Abstract: The spanning device is a tool designed to assist in the working on front wheel drive automobiles. These front wheel drive automobiles are, generally, small automobiles with transverse engines or engines whose crankshaft is, substantially, at a right angle to the longitudinal axis to the automobile. This spanning device is of assistance while the engine and/or transmission must be held aloft or either the engine or the transmission removed from the automobile. The spanning device has a three point resting position which can be positioned on the windshield cowl, the radiator frame and the fender attachment point. A main longitudinal rod and a transverse rod can be held in position by a clamping means or a coupling means. A lifting device may be applied on each rod and at any point on the rod. A draw bolt lift attachment can be used for lifting the engine and/or the transmission and/or the combination of the engine and transmission.

  • Patent number: 4746091
Abstract: A suspension system for rigidly mounting an object such as a microwave cavity on a support surface subject to limited expansion and contraction. The object is secured in place by three or more support legs radially spaced from a central reference point and angularly spaced from each other, each leg being specially configured to permit limited radial movement of the underlying surface relative to the object, but to resist relative movement in all other directions. The forces applied to the mounted object, therefore, remain fixed regardless of expansion or contraction of the underlying support surface.

Abstract: A shipping container for transporting a variety of aircraft engines includes a base, a cover and a plurality of engine-engageable support portions carried on the base which are at least one of vertically, horizontally and angularly displaceable with respect to the base of the container. The cover is disposable over the base so as to contain the engine therebetween. The support portions are preferably formed on the surface of swing brackets pivotally mounted to vertically adjustable riser brakets, which are telescopically received in corresponding riser support brackets, which are in turn horizontally slidably affixed to base brackets on the container base. The cover and base are externally dimensioned so that one container can be stacked atop another container, or moved by a forklift, and so that individual bases are stackable as well.

  • Patent number: 4653481
Abstract: An advanced spine fixation system includes a plurality of screw clamp assemblies preferably inserted through the pedicle and vertebral body at the vertebra. Each screw clamp includes a removable saddle assembly composed of two halves and each provided with apertures for the reception of rigid support rods which, in one form, form a parallelogram. In another form, the screw clamp receives a single rod, the clamp apertures and the rod being serrated for increasing the purchase. The apertures are proportioned to provide an interference fit with the rods to effect purchase between the saddles and the rods. In use, the screws and clamps are properly placed and a soft temporary master is formed which follows and replicates the contour of reference surfaces on the clamps. The temporary master is then used to form a master pattern which in turn is used to form the rigid rods to the determined contour. The rigid rods are then affixed to the clamp assemblies to provide the rigid support needed for spinal procedures.

  • Patent number: 4433825
Abstract: The casing of a centrifugal pump which is subjected to pronounced external stresses is secured to a foundation or to a base plate by one or more rings which surround the casing and receive stresses therefrom. Each ring has lugs which transmit the stresses to the support; one surface of each such lug can be located in a plane which includes the axis of the pump casing and each of these surfaces abuts a complementary surface of the support. If the casing is surrounded by two rings, each ring is located at a different axial end of the casing. One of the rings can be shrunk onto the casing, and the other ring then allows the casing to move angularly and/or axially therein or therewith but relative to the foundation or base plate so as to compensate for dimensional changes in response to temperature changes. Instead of being shrunk onto the casing, the one ring can be secured thereto by one or more keys, wedges and/or pins.
