  • Patent number: 4617159
Abstract: A mold for preparing a plug suitable for making a dental shade sample having a layer of porcelain material having a known thickness; the mold comprises: a base with a cylinder extending upwardly therefrom; a planar platform surface at the upper end of the cylinder, the cylinder being threaded in a region below the platform surface; and a hollow annular housing defining an internal cylindrical surface sized and cooperatively threaded to engage the cylinder threads. Rotation of the housing relative to the cylinder moves the housing vertically and continuously varies the known depth of the cavity between the housing and the platform surface. By proper positioning of the housing and cylinder a known desired cavity depth is obtained and filled with porcelain-forming material to mold a first shade layer. The housing is rotated to increase the cavity depth by known desired increments for subsequent layers.

  • Patent number: 4608213
Abstract: A mold for producing a padding member having side by side portions of different hardnesses integral with each other, and a method of producing the padding member using such mold. The mold has a lower half with partition walls movably extending upwardly through the bottom of the lower mold half into the interior of the lower mold half to define a plurality of cavities into which moldable materials of which the padding member is to be formed and having different hardnesses from each other can be contained. The upper mold half is placed over the lower mold half, and has pressing members extending downwardly which engage the edges of the partition walls and force the partition walls downwardly. The pressing members are spaced from each other along the partition walls, so that the materials on the opposite sides of the partition walls can contact each other and, while molding is being carried out, become integrally joined to each other.

  • Patent number: 4519569
Abstract: For the molding of bottle caps having irregular lower boundaries, such as caps having depending tabs, the conventional mold has a core and a surrounding sleeve in which the core slides. This is modified by using a split sleeve which is maintained in close contact with the core during molding, but whose elements are freed to move outwardly away from the core when the mold begins to open. This solves the prior art problem of the galling of the contacting surfaces of sleeve and core.

  • Patent number: 4431395
Abstract: A group of molds, or baking tins, for placement of dough therein and in which the dough is baked. Each mold includes a bottom element surrounded by an upturned rim. The dough thus baked, in each mold, forms a rigid panel, and those panels are fitted together to form a gingerbread house, the molds including one for each of the walls, and the roof. The panels are fitted together and secured by placing icing in the junctures between the panels. The apparatus also includes a plurality of inserts or cookie cutters that are pressed into the fresh dough when it is put in the molds, and each cuts and isolates a piece of the dough from the main mass, that piece also being baked, and after the dough is baked, the inserts are removed, and the pieces are also removed, either by adhering to the inserts and being lifted out, or by being knocked out. This leaves openings in the panels which form windows and doors, and the pieces, or knockouts, are used to form a chimney to the house.

  • Patent number: 4243198
Abstract: An improved molding machine which overcomes the tendency of concrete members molded therein to become end distorted upon initial discharge movement relative to the mold cavities in which they are formed. The front set of plates which close that end of the multi-cavity mold box proximal to the discharge end of the machine are maintained in contact with the faces of the concrete member adjacent thereto at least during the initial breakaway of the concrete members from the sides of the mold. The molded members are forced out of the mold box by a hydraulic ram acting upon a second set of end plates which act to close the rear end of the mold cavities. Once the concrete members are smoothly moving relative to the mold cavities, the front set of end plates are withdrawn to enable the members to be completely discharged from the mold. A bleed orifice is placed in the return line of the hydraulic cylinder controlling the retraction action of the front end plates so that the two sets of end plates move in unison.
