  • Patent number: 4416440
Abstract: An ingot mold provided with means affording stress relief thereto for the ingot pouring operation, while maintaining the mold in condition to aid in preventing metal leakage therefrom during the ingot pouring operation and subsequent cooling of the ingot, and providing mold wall support for the ingot until its skin has sufficient structural integrity to support the molten interior of the ingot, and a mold which can be recycled for use in a faster manner as compared to heretofore utilized solid or one-piece type ingot molds. In certain embodiments, the mold is formed of a plurality of completely separate and individual side wall sections defining at least the side periphery of a mold cavity, together with coupling means connecting the wall sections together. The coupling means provide for expansion and contraction of the mold sections relative to one another during the pouring of molten metal into the mold, and the resultant heating and subsequent cooling thereof.

  • Patent number: 4372738
Abstract: A mechanism for locking two mold parts together includes a cylindrical tie rod securely mounted on one mold part and having a circumferential groove therein. A cylindrical collet sleeve is rigidly mounted on the other mold part and has a plurality of axially extending, circumferentially spaced, resiliently flexible arms at one end. The free end of each arm has an inwardly projecting locking member thereon which the arm resiliently urges radially inwardly. When the mold parts are moved to a closed position, the tie rod is received within the collet sleeve and the locking members become axially aligned with and are urged into engagement with the tie rod groove. An annular collar encircling the tie rod is then moved axially until its inner surface snugly engages the outer surface of the collet arms, thereby preventing radially outward movement of the collet arms.

Abstract: In the course of this method, an amount of expansible mixture is poured into a mould, after which the mould is obturated by means of a plug. A vacuum is created in the chamber of the mould by way of the plug so as to cause the foaming of the mixture. The vacuum is maintained for a period after the foamable mixture has filled the whole of the volume of the mould. At the end of the polymerization of the foamable mixture, the vacuum may be re-applied in the mould, preferably for several cycles, so as to cause the cells of the foam obtained to burst.

  • Patent number: 4210305
Abstract: A form system for constructing concrete walls is assembled from groups of laterally-interconnected units that are spaced to define the opposite surfaces of the wall. Tie systems traverse the space and matching edge discontinuities in adjacent units, with the pressure of the poured concrete being transferred from the form units to the tie systems by cross pins directly intersecting components of the tie systems and the marginal frame members of the units at the edge discontinuities. Transverse frame members provide mounting points for studs that interengage to laterally locate a pair of form units placed back-to-back, and members provide protected storage positions for tie components when they are not in use. Handles, and also fastenings securing panels to the frames, are positioned within the space enclosed by the frames to avoid interference in the back-to-back storage position of the units.

  • Patent number: 4181286
Abstract: A mold especially adapted for forming precast, waffle-shaped concrete panels employs a one-piece mold body of plastic sheet material to provide a reusable mold structure that may be rapidly stripped and reset. Each corner of the mold body is open; thus, the sides of the mold present pliable flaps due to the inherent flexibility of the sheet material and are swung outwardly after molding is completed in order to release the molded product. External reinforcing members on the sides maintain the same rigid and true during the molding process. The corners are held closed by simple locking devices which are readily released for stripping. Raised portions in the mold body form the characteristic voids in the molded waffle product, and are reinforced and rigidified by a foam filler.
