  • Patent number: 6941963
Abstract: A diaphragm valve includes a pressure vent communicating with an enclosed space behind the diaphragm for reducing resistance to transitioning of the diaphragm between the open and closed positions. In some implementations, a pump or other source of suction is coupled to the pressure vent to reduce fluid pressure in the enclosed space. When used in an atomic layer deposition (ALD) system, the venting and suction improves the thin film deposition process and prevents leakage through the valve of potentially toxic ALD precursor vapors. Features for thermal management and reliability enhancement are also described.

  • Patent number: 6932316
Abstract: A solenoid plunger (36) is disposed for reciprocation in a plunger pocket that is formed by the stationary parts of a solenoid-type actuator (10). A flexible diaphragm (22) closes the plunger pocket's open mouth and is deformed by movement of a plunger (36) between an open position, in which it is displaced from a valve seat (20), and a closed position, in which it is seated on the valve seat and thereby prevents flow from a valve inlet (16) to a valve outlet (18). The diaphragm thereby isolates the plunger from the fluid thereby being controlled, but a separate, incompressible fluid fills the chamber in which the plunger reciprocates. A through-plunger passage (44, 56) provides a low-flow-resistance path for the incompressible fluid to flow into and out of the portion (52) of the plunger chamber behind the plunger as the plunger moves. This reduces actuation time and thus the energy required for an actuation.

  • Patent number: 6929240
Abstract: A valve 6 fixed on a tip 5a of a rod 5 as a moving part, abuts a sealing part 9 of a fluid passage 8 when the rod 5 moved to the left, and interrupts a flow of fluid, is made, for instance, of elastic materials such as rubber. This absorbs an impact generated when the valve is sealed (at the time of collision), and reduces loudness of an actuating sound caused by a collision between the valve 6 and the sealing part 9.

Abstract: A solenoid control valve for use in actuation of a manual hydraulic clutch in a vehicle. The solenoid control valve has an electronically operated solenoid with armature and actuator rod displaced through a channel in the solenoid. A spool valve has a valve body that is coupled at one end to the solenoid. A spool is slidably disposed in the control channel. A first and second dampener chambers are located at the two ends of the spool. The dampeners function to improve the stability in the control system and balance the transient flow forces of the hydraulic fluid as it moves through the valve member. The spool also has a control portion is located between the first end and the second end of the spool. The control portion allows the control portion to communicate with a supply, control and exhaust passages in the valve body.

  • Patent number: 6874755
Abstract: A solenoid-actuated pintle valve assembly having a pintle shaft extending from a metering base sub-assembly into a solenoid actuator sub-assembly, the pintle shaft being equipped with a radially-extending fixed shield outside the metering base sub-assembly. The shield moves axially with the pintle during valve actuation and is located on the shaft so that when the pintle is in the valve-closed position, the shield cooperates with the pintle bushing to form an effective impedance to gas leakage from the metering base sub-assembly along the pintle shaft. When the valve is in the fully open position at the opposite extreme of pintle travel, the shield cooperates with an armature shield in the actuator to prevent entrance of gases into the solenoid. The invention is especially useful for exhaust gas recirculation valves on internal combustion engines.

  • Patent number: 6866242
Abstract: The object of the present invention is to provide a proportional valve which does not open or close by itself and is free of internal leakage. A valve element is formed integrally with a piston having a cross-sectional area equal to that of a valve hole constituting a valve seat, and a diaphragm having an outer peripheral portion secured to a body by a holder is disposed in contact with a pressure-receiving end face of the piston. The diaphragm is mounted in a displaced state such that when the valve element is seated on the valve seat, the pressure receiving area of the diaphragm is at a maximum and is equal to that of the valve element. Change in the pressure receiving area of the valve element corresponding to the lift amount thereof is canceled out by change in the pressure receiving area of the diaphragm corresponding to the amount of displacement thereof, thus preventing the valve from opening or closing by itself due to the difference between the pressure receiving areas.

  • Patent number: 6820651
Abstract: An electrically actuated valve includes firstly a fixed core (1) accommodating, at least, one coil (2) in, at least, one housing and forming therewith, at least, one electromagnet of the electrically actuated valve. Further, this valve includes a body (4) forming with the fixed core (1) the sealingly tight carrier structure of the electrically actuated valve. Thirdly, this valve includes, at least, one movable core (3) placed between the fixed core (1) and the body (4). This electrically actuated valve is specially innovative in that the fixed core (1) is made as an unitary part from an injected ferromagnetic material and in that it combines several functions, in particular that of the pneumatic connection and/or of the electrical connection of the coil/coils (2). The decrease in the number of parts and the simplification of the design allow, accordingly, an additional miniaturization.
